Chapter 75: Uchiha Obito's Smile
Has anyone ever thought about the scene of reuniting with a long-lost friend?
Between men, there would be a heavy embrace. Between women, a gentle kiss. Between a man and a woman... my imagination falls short.
Between Uchiha Obito and Kakashi Hatake, friendship, beauty, nostalgia, and resentment were intertwined, forming a bond that was both delicate and resilient.
Kitahara could sense the negative emotions constantly spreading from Obito. The deeper the feelings of an Uchiha, the firmer their will, and the stronger their ocular power.
"Kakashi, don't make that face..." Uchiha Obito spread his hands, a smile that made one's hair stand on end on his face, "Aren't you happy to see me alive?"
"..."
This question was truly terrifying. Even the people around couldn't help but shiver, and Kitahara was no exception.
Facing a friend returned from hell, the only response was Kakashi's cold-sweat-drenched silence.
Itachi peeked out from behind Might Guy and asked curiously, "Is he Uchiha Obito?"
"I think that's his name..." Might Guy had never been good at remembering people. He squinted his eyes, "I remember there was a classmate like that, always competing with me for the 'dead-last' position in class."
Guy's words instantly dispelled the gloom... Being the dead-last was nothing to be proud of!
This really couldn't be blamed on him. His grades at the Ninja Academy weren't great. Except for ninja combat practice, where he was barely in the top ranks, he was near the bottom in almost every other subject.
Uchiha Obito's grades weren't good either, possibly because he was often late for class and fell behind in many courses. The two of them had indeed been gossiped about by their peers for a long time.
Later, after they graduated and became ninjas, Might Guy was in a squad with Genma Shiranui and others, while Uchiha Obito and Kakashi were in Minato Namikaze's squad.
They only had a chance to interact during the Chunin Exams, but Might Guy knocked Obito over with one kick in the practical assessment, and then was taken care of by his lifelong rival, Kakashi.
And for Might Guy to even remember Obito was his classmate was already quite an achievement, most likely because Obito was Kakashi's teammate!
Uchiha Obito, who had just vented his resentment on Kakashi, suddenly had his imposing manner falter... He remembered this Might Guy person. After all, he had once made him lose face in front of Rin.
There was a hint of awkwardness in the air...
In the end, it was Kakashi Hatake who once again stepped forward to save Obito from the awkward situation, "Why are you with Zetsu? Did he lure you away?"
"I thought you'd ask something else..." Uchiha Obito covered his face with a light laugh, then immediately sneered, "If I'm not with it, should I be with you?"
The atmosphere was getting stranger and stranger...
Kakashi Hatake's tone was strained, "Obito, a lot happened after Kannabi Bridge... You don't know... many... truths of the matter..."
There was a lot Kakashi wanted to say. He wanted to explain the truth of Rin Nohara's death, but it was incredibly difficult to get the words out.
Even if he was known to the world as "Cold-blooded Kakashi," he couldn't bring himself to tell his old friend that his beloved had actually been sealed with a Tailed Beast by the enemy and had therefore deliberately died at his hands...
"Hahahaha... You're getting more and more foolish, Kakashi!" Obito pointed at the astonished white-haired man and laughed wildly, his expression finally like that of a child who had succeeded in a prank.
"Everything you want to say, I already know, and I know more than you do, more than you can ever imagine!"
"For example, I saw with my own eyes... you killing Rin!" Uchiha Obito looked at his own hand as if it were submerged in a river of blood, "I held the Rin who would never breathe again... In that moment, I was in hell."
So he transformed into a demon, using his awakened Wood Style to wipe out all the Hidden Mist ANBU.
"That day... was it you... who saved me?"
Kakashi was stunned for a moment. After that incident, Minato Namikaze had mentioned that when he arrived at the scene, the condition of the dead Hidden Mist ANBU members was extremely tragic.
"Ah? You were just lucky..."
Obito waved his hand dismissively, "While I was thinking about whether to kill you or not, our most respected teacher arrived..."
In reality, he already knew that Rin had a Tailed Beast sealed within her when she died. So, his attitude towards Kakashi was resentful, yet he was also conflicted by their friendship.
If he let Kakashi and Rin meet in the afterlife, wouldn't that be letting the white-haired man off too easily? A person's death is so easy, but living has always been difficult.
Facts proved that Obito's approach was not wrong. He watched Kakashi fall bit by bit, until Minato Namikaze transferred him to ANBU, only then did he gradually start to recover.
"After the news of your death arrived, Teacher Minato and Mistress Kushina were both very sad..." Kakashi Hatake's eyes were somewhat obscure.
He seemed to have guessed something. During that night of turmoil, the crimson Sharingan in the Nine-Tails' eyes, whose was it... He was unwilling to believe his old friend would do such a thing.
After all, that was something only Uchiha Madara's Mangekyo Sharingan could do. Obito's talent was so poor...
"But they weren't very happy when they saw me either..." Uchiha Obito sighed, "I was kind enough to help them soothe their newborn baby!"
"Mm, blonde like Teacher Minato, very cute..."
Obito's smile was so natural, as if at that moment, he was really helping Minato Namikaze and Kushina soothe their child.
What Obito said was true; he had indeed held Naruto in his arms.
It's just that he had stuffed the infant's swaddling clothes with paper bombs worth about the same as a monetary gift.
Might Guy, belatedly realizing, frowned, "What do you mean... Did he come back?"
"No..."
Uchiha Shisui wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said, word by word, "The person who killed the Fourth Hokage and his wife, the person who released the Nine-Tails to wreak havoc, was him!"
Uchiha Itachi's expression was also very ugly. The people he had interacted with in the past were all warm and gentle. In his view, the darkness of a ninja was, at most, like the ANBU of the Hidden Mist Village.
Characters like Orochimaru still had their cute quirks from their youth. However, the Obito before him refreshed his understanding of human nature.
How could a person speak so lightly of the cruelest things they had done!
What the little boy didn't know was that if Kitahara hadn't appeared, the future Uchiha Sasuke would feel the same as he did at this moment.
"The one who released the Nine-Tails, was it really you?"
Kakashi Hatake asked calmly, his expression suddenly becoming quiet, but the ninja sword clenched tightly in his hand betrayed his mood.
"I just wanted to see how strong the Nine-Tails was..." Uchiha Obito said, even giving a thumbs-up and praising extravagantly, "Mm, indeed very strong!"
"If Teacher Minato hadn't been so troublesome, and if there hadn't been a meddling crow, we wouldn't have had the chance to meet!"
Obito's gaze swept over the yawning crow. It knew everything that had happened during that time...
Honestly, Minato Namikaze was amazing. In the original history, Obito would have gradually lost his student-teacher feelings.
When Obito was young and needed a teacher, he was never there. But every time it came to dealing with him, he was never absent!
Kakashi Hatake looked at his old friend. He still had that fake smile when he mentioned killing the Minato couple. He couldn't help but become furious, "Uchiha... Obito!"
"I really never want to see you again!"
