Chapter 34 - Chapter 34 : The War Begins

The terror unleashed by Sora's minions had grown increasingly brutal. The chaos had severely damaged and destroyed homes and buildings, transforming the eastern city into a disaster zone. The chaos even set some structures ablaze, sending towering flames into the sky.

The Kalanak and Poccog demons seemed to be celebrating. While spreading terror, they laughed gleefully, some even drinking whiskey as they carried out their destruction.

They immediately subjected any civilians caught to brutal torture—heads bashed, stomachs kicked, and blood streaming from their bodies. Meanwhile, they kidnapped toddlers under the age of five and delivered them to Sora.

Yamile and Tora witnessed the horror firsthand. They never imagined Sora could act with such cruelty. The assault was no longer the work of humans—it was the work of cursed demons.

Tora leapt into action upon witnessing a Kalanak demon pursuing a mother and child. With his incredible speed, he positioned himself in front of the demon and, with a single breath, struck it down with his mace. The demon died instantly.

Yamile acted swiftly, rescuing the mother and her child.

"Don't be afraid, I'm human!" she said.

"Come with me to the shelter."

She led them to a bunker beneath the community hall. Once they were safe, she quickly returned to find Tora, continuing the fight and rescuing any civilians they encountered. Without rest, Yamile and Tora fought through the night.

The terror didn't cease—it only intensified. The sky over the eastern city turned red, not from a sunset, but from endless fires. Screams, cries, and the maniacal laughter of the Kalanak and Poccog demons formed a symphony of darkness. The stench of burning flesh mixed with the air, creating a piercing scent of death.

Yamile and Tora navigated through the ruins. Each step revealed a new horror. Behind a collapsed house, they found a young boy trapped under a wooden beam. Without hesitation, Tora lifted the beam and carried the boy.

"We can't stay here," Yamile said. "Take him to the bunker—I'll hold them off!"

Suddenly, five Poccog demons appeared and launched a relentless attack on Yamile. But she stood her ground. With the water powers she had trained hard to master, she formed a shield of water around herself. The demons' blades bounced off it. She countered with a high-pressure water blast that flung the demons into walls.

Meanwhile, after dropping the boy off at the bunker, Tora returned to the battlefield. His mace was drenched in demon blood, but his eyes showed no fear. In the distance, he saw a group of Kalanak demons herding civilians toward a metal truck—likely headed to Sora's main base, from which they might never return.

Gritting his teeth, Tora growled, "I won't let that happen."

Tora swiftly lunged towards the truck. Three demons fell instantly, their heads twisted by his powerful blows. A woman in her thirties clutched her terrified daughter and cried. Tora rescued them and guided them to a narrow alley leading to the community hall.

He and Yamile fought on. Tora now easily defeated the Poccog demons that had previously caused him trouble. Yamile, now awakened, could crush the demons with water vortexes, tearing their bodies apart.

But those small victories didn't improve the overall situation. The demons seemed endless. For every Poccog slain, two more emerged from the shadows. Kalanak demons, faster and more feral, began hunting from rooftops, leaping like bloodthirsty beasts.

Yamile was exhausted, her hair soaked with sweat and blood, yet her eyes stayed sharp. Near the ruins of a bakery, she found two children hiding under a metal table—trembling, dusty, and injured.

"Come out," she whispered gently. "You're safe now."

But before she could reach out, a Kalanak demon leapt from a collapsed roof, claws ready to slash the children. Yamile barely had a moment to react. She dove, embracing the children, and formed a large water sphere around them.

Craasshh!

The demon's claws struck the water shield but failed to pierce it. Yamile spun, kicked the demon into the air, then shot a spear-like water blast that pierced its body and slammed it into a wall.

"We have to go, now!" she said, leading the kids to the bunker.

Elsewhere, Tora was nearing his limit. His left arm bled from a Kalanak claw, but he wouldn't stop. His body sparked with lightning energy, each movement flashing with light.

On his path, he encountered an elderly man dragging his gravely injured wife. Tora rushed to help—but suddenly, the ground beneath them cracked. A massive Poccog, larger than the others, erupted from the earth. Its glowing red eyes and bulging muscles signaled a greater threat.

Without thinking, Tora shielded the couple with his body as the beast struck. The massive punch hurled Tora into a stone wall.

"TOOORAAA!!" Yamile screamed as she returned from delivering the children.

She accelerated swiftly, creating a massive vortex that engulfed the Poccog. But the demon was too strong—it struck back, sending Yamile tumbling across the ground.

"Damn, he's powerful," she muttered, standing and spitting blood.

"Yamile, get the elders to safety—I'll handle this!" Tora shouted.

Yamile obeyed. She had to get them to shelter quickly, then return to help Tora.

Tora, now furious, twirled his mace, generating a powerful wind vortex around him. Tora charged the Poccog, swinging his weapon, but an invisible shield blocked it.

An enormous explosion ensued, propelling Tora backward.

"He's stronger than the others," Tora muttered, noticing a faint crack in the demon's invisible shield.

Tora kept fighting. Every blow was deflected, the shield seemingly impenetrable.

Soon, Yamile returned to assist—but more demons arrived. Now, ten demons, both Kalanak and Poccog, attacked them simultaneously.

The night wore on, but their battle was far from over. Tora and Yamile struggled to bring down the giant Poccog.

"I'll need to transform to beat him," Tora whispered.

"Tora, Yamile—get out of the way!" A voice shouted from behind.

In the next second, a massive slash struck from behind—fast and strong. Shockingly, it sliced through the invisible shield and the giant Poccog itself.

"Zhao!" Yamile cried joyfully upon seeing her brother arrive.

"Don't fool around here. We don't have time," Zhao said firmly before charging at the remaining demons.

"Uncle Marco's been kidnapped!" Zhao shouted.
