AVA'S POV
I sat at the dinner bar, nursing a mug of mint tea, while Ethan scrolled through something on his tablet.
The quiet hum of the espresso machine, the subtle rustle of the morning breeze outside, and the comforting scent of roasted coffee grounded me in the moment.
It was one of those rare evening when peace felt tangible.
But my mind had already traveled, thousands of miles away, to a place where peace wasn't so easily found.
"Ethan," I began, watching as he looked up immediately. His attention always shifted to me so naturally. "I need to talk to you about Nairobi."
He put down the tablet and turned fully toward me. "What's going on?"
"There's been severe flooding in several districts. I got a detailed report from our field team last night, some of the schools we were in talks with are now underwater. Homes gone. Families displaced. Children... terrified."
His expression softened into concern. "God. How bad is it?"
