Chapter 27 - Chapter 28: Crossing the Line

Selene knew she was standing on the edge of something dangerous.

One more step, and there would be no turning back.

Kieran was watching her, his golden eyes dark with hunger, his body coiled with restrained power. He wasn't just waiting for her to surrender—he was daring her to.

And that terrified her.

Because part of her wanted to.

She swallowed hard, forcing herself to breathe. "This isn't a good idea."

Kieran's smirk was slow, calculated. "That's never stopped you before."

Her fingers twitched at her sides. "I mean it, Kieran."

His expression shifted, amusement fading into something sharper. "Then walk away."

Selene's heart pounded.

He was testing her.

Giving her the illusion of choice.

But they both knew the truth—if she was going to leave, she would have done it already.

She clenched her jaw, trying to ignore the magnetic pull between them. "You don't fight fair."

Kieran chuckled, stepping closer. "I never have."

She should push him away.

Should remind herself why this was dangerous.

Why he was dangerous.

But when he reached for her, fingers skimming down her arm, every last thought scattered like ash in the wind.

"Tell me you don't want this," he murmured, his voice like silk and steel. "Tell me you don't want me."

Selene parted her lips, the words ready to form—ready to lie.

But nothing came out.

Because lying to him meant lying to herself.

And she was tired of pretending.

Kieran's smirk returned, slow and victorious. "That's what I thought."

Before she could respond, he closed the distance between them, his lips brushing against hers—not a kiss, but a whisper of one. A promise.

Selene's pulse thundered, her resolve crumbling.

She had spent so long fighting this, but in the end—

She never really stood a chance.

With a sharp inhale, she closed the last of the space between them, her fingers tangling in his shirt as she pulled him down to her.

And just like that—

The line between right and wrong disappeared entirely.
