Chapter 45 - CHAPTER 45

c45: Go To Sea!

Though the Gyarados incident in Shantou City made waves across Huaxia, due to Chen Xiaoxiao's special status as a Prosecutor of the League and the information security protocols of the Secret Division, neither her name nor her photograph appeared in any of the news reports.

However, those in certain circles League-affiliated families, intelligence agents, or high-level administrative personnel quickly pieced together the identity of the mysterious "cold-hearted Prosecutor" through internal channels.

The name Chen Xiaoxiao resurfaced once again across Huaxia's elite networks, shaking the power structures of several prominent families.

Once, many had believed that the Chen clan of superpowered lineage had long lost its prestige. With the disappearance of its strongest Psychic elders and the family retaining only an elderly Breeder matriarch, they were thought to be fading into irrelevance.

Some mockingly predicted that the once-proud Superpower Chen family would soon become a minor Breeder family.

No one had expected the clan to produce a talent like Chen Xiaoxiao, who not only defied their predictions but soared beyond them. A prodigy Prosecutor ranked under the champion's direct command, already commanding a Gardevoir and a Solgaleo she had completely overturned their assumptions.

Now, even those families who once looked down on her dared not even offer an olive branch. It was too late.

She bore the League's most powerful label "Champion's Cold Prosecutor." No one could casually recruit her anymore.

Even without that title, Chen Xiaoxiao's own strength had already reached a level that made such gestures meaningless. At best, they could attempt to foster goodwill though even that would likely have little effect now.

It was easy to offer aid to someone during hardship. But now? Now, she stood atop the League's inner ranks. Adding flowers to an already-blossoming tree had little weight.

Yet, there were still some shameless families who saw her rise as a... different opportunity.

Maybe, they thought, they could send a dashing young heir to approach Chen Xiaoxiao, earn her favor, and in the process, bind her power to their family.

Hehe.

If Chen Xiaoxiao knew about this kind of ploy, she would respond with nothing more than a deadpan "Heh."

---

At this very moment, tens of nautical miles off the Shantou coastline, a Lapras floated gracefully on the open sea, her back steady like a small island.

Alongside her swam a large feline Pokémon with celestial fur and a playful smile none other than Solgaleo, in a rare relaxed mood. Near him, a much smaller Pokémon dog-paddled furiously in a clumsy "dog crawl," trying to chase the Legendary Pokémon in circles.

Overhead, a Togekiss soared freely in the clear sky, casting dancing shadows on the waves below.

On Lapras's back sat a young blonde girl in a breezy white dress and wide-brimmed hat, calmly holding a Fishing Rod over the waves. A sun umbrella floated mysteriously above her, kept in place by psychic force an oddly comic sight.

The girl, of course, was Chen Xiaoxiao, taking a rare break after over two months of uninterrupted duty and training. On a whim, she had decided to go sea fishing today.

But unfortunately, the mood was not as peaceful as she had imagined. She was currently being pestered by two mischievous Meowstic her "Sun Pokémon," both male and female, who were playfully swimming and splashing around, completely unaware of their disruption.

With a visible frown, Chen Xiaoxiao scolded them.

"Meowstic! You two need to swim farther away! You're scaring off all the Water-types! It's been thirty minutes and not even a Magikarp has nibbled!"

This fishing trip wasn't just for fun.

Ever since Leng Yue one of her three close friends caught a Ralts and began regularly flaunting photos of its evolution to Gardevoir in their group chat, He Xiaowen had grown visibly envious.

So, today's goal wasn't just fishing it was to catch a suitable Water-type Pokémon for Xiaowen as a surprise.

Rain and dew for all, she thought. Fairness among sisters.

Feeling the tension, the two soaked Meowstic suddenly became remorseful. One hopped onto Chen Xiaoxiao's shoulder, rubbing its damp cheek against her face affectionately, while the other curled on her lap, trying to look as harmless as possible.

Normally, such tactics would melt Chen Xiaoxiao instantly.

But today, her expression only darkened.

She glanced down and saw her white dress turning semi-transparent from the water, revealing the black undergarments beneath. Her forehead twitched ominously as a well-shaped anger symbol appeared.

"Meowstic!! You two are soaking wet and now my dress is see-through!!"

(Voiceover: "Wet... WET...!")

"...(I'm sorry...)"

"...(We were wrong...)"

The two would-be charmers immediately froze and sat down in a guilty row on Lapras' shell, shoulders drooping.

"Shanai~" said Gardevoir with a soft sigh. She gracefully opened a storage bracelet, summoned a large towel, and draped it over Chen Xiaoxiao's shoulders to hide the exposed silhouette.

"Xiaoxiao, calm down. They didn't mean to. Go back into the pocket space and change, I'll keep things in order."

Then, turning gently to the two drenched troublemakers, she dried them off with another towel while giving them a soft reprimand through telepathy.

"Okay, okay. I forgive you two," Chen Xiaoxiao finally relented, patting both their heads as they lowered their ears in apology.

After changing into a dry outfit this time with more water-resistant gear Chen Xiaoxiao returned to Lapras's back. She saw her Pokémon behaving properly now, sprawled on the shell in a sunbathing lineup.

She smiled faintly, took up her fishing rod again, and cast her line into the sea once more.

With the sun setting gently on the horizon and the wind rustling through Togekiss's wings above, the tranquil moment returned at least for now.

In her previous life, Chen Xiaoxiao often dreamed of sailing across a sunlit sea atop a Lapras, feeling the breeze, the salt, and the weightless freedom of the open waters. Now, in this life, that long-held dream had finally come true.

At this very moment, surrounded by the endless deep blue and the radiant sunlight reflecting off the ocean's surface, the waves shimmered like a field of silver scales under the sun's embrace.

Perhaps this was what people meant when they said "soaring on the sea."

The warm ocean wind swept across her cheeks and through her hair. Breathing in the salt-scented air, Chen Xiaoxiao felt her entire spirit being purified as if the sea breeze could reach all the way into her soul.

Her contented expression was suddenly interrupted by a sharp motion in the water ahead the bobber on the surface jerked violently before sinking beneath the waves. A strong tug surged through the fishing rod in her hand.

"Got something!"

Chen Xiaoxiao exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. She gripped the rod with both hands, lifted it to an angle just over 70 degrees, maintaining the rod's arc to balance tension and flexibility, leveraging the pole's elasticity with practiced precision.

Stabilizing her footing, she began to walk the catch moving slowly with the direction of the hooked Pokémon's pull, letting it exhaust itself gradually in the struggle, a method often recommended in League training materials for sea-based encounters.

"Shh-wish!"

Feeling a burst of resistance from beneath, Chen Xiaoxiao braced herself and pulled hard raising the rod swiftly!

With a dramatic splash, a Magikarp flew out of the water, flailing wildly in the air. Its glistening red scales shimmered beautifully as it spun midair, unintentionally performing something like a Splash-Jump, reminiscent of a poor showing in a Normal Rank Contest.

"Gardevoir!"

Chen Xiaoxiao didn't issue any further instructions. She didn't need to. Her Gardevoir, bonded with her since childhood, had long since mastered her unspoken cues.

The elegant Psychic-type's eyes shimmered with a brilliant blue aura as it used Confusion to gently suspend the struggling Magikarp midair and float it over to the deck of Lapras.

Chen Xiaoxiao looked at her first catch of the day a Magikarp. Far from discouraged, she simply gave a small, resigned nod. This was expected.

After all, not everyone could reel in a Feebas or a Dratini on their first day. Those were legendary fishing feats rare even for veteran Trainers in the Pokémon League manga.

"Come on, let's eat."

She pulled out a standard-grade Water-type energy cube and held it out kindly toward Magikarp.

To her surprise, the Magikarp thrashed once and turned its back on her, tail flipping dismissively.

Chen Xiaoxiao's expression dropped several degrees. She silently retracted the basic cube and muttered under her breath.

"If you dare bite my hook again and act picky, I swear you'll regret it."

Without ceremony, she tossed the still-quivering Magikarp back into the sea with an annoyed flick.

This time, she attached an Apex-grade Water-type energy cube to the hook an absurdly luxurious bait item reserved only for top-tier Water Pokémon and cast her line back into the waves, resuming the hunt for a true partner Pokémon for He Xiaowen.

In retrospect, it was no wonder the Magikarp felt insulted.

Imagine being lured in by a gourmet Apex energy cube, only to be offered a common cube after being caught. From Magikarp's perspective, this was a complete betrayal.

It was as if Chen Xiaoxiao had said: "Hey, thanks for biting the hook. Now enjoy this cheap substitute."

No wonder the Magikarp swam away in protest.

Magikarp's unspoken response was clear: "My family has dignity! I refuse to eat garbage after being deceived with luxury!"

Of course, Chen Xiaoxiao's counter-response was equally decisive:

"No luxury for the ungrateful. You can get back in the water and if you dare to come back, I'll leave you on shore for 48 hours. Dehydrated."

(Magikarp trembled in place.)

Despite the repetitive cycle cast, wait, pull, threaten, release Chen Xiaoxiao didn't seem bored. The simplicity of it soothed her. The sun sparkled. Lapras swayed gently. Her Meowstic napped beside her. And even the sea's silence was a kind of music.

Then, after several hours and more than a dozen failed attempts…

The fishing line suddenly jerked downward with tremendous force. The rod bent alarmingly. The reel spun violently. Something massive had taken the bait.

With gritted teeth and narrowed eyes, Chen Xiaoxiao anchored her stance and began the tug-of-war.

After what felt like an eternity, the water exploded.

A Gyarados ferocious and regal burst from the ocean in a towering arc. Its massive body thrashed in the air, three jagged cerulean horns rising from its skull, a sleek ridge of battle-worn scales running down its back, and a macro-segmented structure flaring like armor across its spine.

Lapras shook uncontrollably from the shockwave of its roar.

Pokédex Analysis:

Chen Xiaoxiao's face darkened instantly. Her temples twitched. Her voice cracked out like a whip.

"What the actual hell?! Why is an ELITE-RANK Gyarados biting bait meant for mid-levels? And WHY did you scare my poor Lapras?!"

The Gyarados looked… embarrassed?

Could it really admit it only came over because it heard other sea Pokémon chatting about rare bait?

Could it admit that its intention was not malicious, but it had smelled something absurdly luxurious and simply couldn't resist?

It didn't dare answer.

Lapras trembled. The Meowstic dove behind Chen Xiaoxiao's legs. Gardevoir, ever calm, stepped forward slowly, her hands glowing with psychic energy.

As the sea wind howled around them, Gyarados held its head low, almost sheepishly…

It was going to be a long negotiation.
