Chapter 10 - Demon Raid(4)

The Solder lunged forward with incredible speed, leaving a ring of fading dust in its wake.

Yet, due to Lief quickly sidestepping away, the creature's blades merely scratched the rocky ground, cutting deep grooves.

As the beast recovered from attacking, Lief grabbed onto its back using his energy arm and leaped onto the Soldier's back. His legs strained as he struggled to move from the effort.

Slowly climbing along the defiant creature, Lief latched onto the Soldier's helmet and pulled it off. This thing can come off?

Under the ivory helmet was a insectoid face composed of sinewy black muscle, snarling in anger and a desire to kill. Two beady, predatory eyes which glowed with purple were embedded into the being.

The maws of the creature mashed and bit at Lief, trying to kill him. Yellowed teeth covered with sticky green fluid scared the hell out of Lief as he dodged back and forth to escape the attacks. Filthy saliva covered Lief's whole body, lightly dissolving his skin as it was acidic.

Eventually, the beast simply gathered its strength and threw Lief off its back, straight onto the hard, ruthless ground. Clouds of dust bellowed out from the pure force.

Despite the heavy impact, the lack of pain allowed Lief to quickly regain his bearings, standing up without awareness of the injuries in his body.

Several ribs cracked and muscles torn, though the strengthened physique was repairing it as Lief got up. Even the dissolving skin was being knit back together in a speed visible to the naked eye.

I know! I'll attack its joints!

Lief obviously understood that this was a very risky move, as contact with the Soldier's coated venom blades would cause severe damage. Perhaps even exploding another limb.

The Soldier ran at Lief, baring both its fangs and deadly hand weapons. It slashed at Lief, attempting to pierce through his heart. Lief's quick reflexes allowed him to instead land onto the blackened weapon, his bare feet touching the slimy, vein filled surface.

Even though he had avoided direct injury, the poison had splattered from Lief landing on the blade and now covered the entirety of his legs.

Oh shit. Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit.

With a familiar catastrophic explosion, both of Lief's legs were also blown to bits. Copious amounts of inhuman blood poured from Lief's exposed flesh. The lower end of his spine was also revealed, a jagged section of vertebrae jutting out from bloody red meat.

The force of the explosion pushed Lief through air, the wind slicing into his open flesh, and straight onto the Soldier's right shoulder plate. The vaguely spiky white surface cut into Lief's skin and opened even more wounds.

Thank god that Rhysa disabled pain.

Lief promptly coated the area where his legs once where with red energy to avoid blood leaking. He didn't have enough power to form another limb at the moment.

Mustering all his strength, Lief slowly climbed up the shoulder plates to the head. He changed the construction of his energy arm, switching its fingernails to sharp claws for better grip. One grasp at a time, Lief traveled up the writhing colossus. Digging his claws and sword into the armor, Lief managed to scratch a knick into the plate, which he clutched onto for dear life.

The Soldier twisted and turned, trying to throw Lief off, but the grasp of Lief was very strong.

Whirling winds were created by the pure force of a massive being moving with such speed. Lief slammed into the plate constantly, flesh turning to mush and bones cracking. This time, it was mainly a few vertebrae that got crushed.

Eventually, sensing that this was no use, the Soldier hollered out an ear piercing screech, its signal spreading out several kilometers.

An unpleasant sensation came to Lief's brain from the loudness of the roar It wasn't painful, but disturbing nevertheless. Lief felt incredibly uncomfortable overall. His mind dizzied and processing slowed.

Ugh. What the hell was that sound?

The beast let out yet another screech. This time, the message was clearly heard, and dozens of the surrounding Kyran Scouts rushed to climb up the Soldier's back and kill Lief.

"DISABLING MODULE: RATIONALIZING SAINT. Pain will dull your sense of danger," Rhysa stated.

Damn it. I'm really gonna die now, aren't I?

Renewed with vigor from fear, Lief hurried up to the Soldier's head as fast as he could. Without lack of pain, Lief was in utter agony, however. The combination of bleeding out from his legs and arms, multiple broken bones, dissolving flesh, and sharp spikes in the plate cutting into his body tortured him beyond measure. Clearing up his mind, Lief simply continued with climbing up the beast. One hand in front of the other. One hand in front of the othe-

A serrated claw stabbed into Lief back, causing him to cry out in pain, arching his back slightly. What the fuck, don't tell me they're up already.

He looked back to see the snarling saw of gnashing teeth and fangs that was the Kyran Scout's mouth. Damn it.

Lief quickly slashed his sword through the Scout's body, slicing through it cleanly. Braving through pain, Lief put his clawed hand right onto the Soldier's neck.

The vile creature bared its jaws and with a swift, quick motion, consumed Lief whole, leaving the energy arm to tear through its maw.

The beast yet again cried out in pain, a rare feeling for a being such as it.

Lief barely tolerated his back being bit into roughly yet again. He rationalized himself and thought of a way to kill the creature.

Looking up, he had a thought. It's brain should be right up there. He smirked at the rare victory. Maybe he was going to die, but he would take the Soldier down with him.

Gathering his strength one last time, he thrust his sword, cloaked with chaotic energy, straight into the mouth area right above him.

With the brain controlling them practically destroyed, the beast's muscles relaxed and its massive, toothy, jaw fell right onto Lief.

I guess this is how I die. Those were his last words before darkness.
