Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: A Battle Cut Short

"Calling reinforcements?" Wu Feng sneered. "If he's not convinced, then let's give him a few more bruises!"

"Got it!" Zheng Qiang answered, then lifted his foot and stomped hard on Xu Peng's foot!

"Aaah!"

Zheng Qiang, a trained martial artist, was known for his powerful legs. Smashing bricks and stones was child's play for him. How could Xu Peng's foot withstand such force?

With a single stomp, Xu Peng let out a shrill scream, dropped to the ground, clutching his foot in agony—his face twisted in pain.

Zheng Qiang raised his hand again, ready to slap him, but Wu Feng calmly reached out to stop him. "Take your time. From now on, we'll give him a beating every time we see him."

Zheng Qiang muttered, still unsatisfied, "Consider yourself lucky, kid."

The three of them were just about to leave when Xu Peng shrieked, "If you've got guts, don't leave!"

Zheng Qiang turned and chuckled, "What, you want to fight me?"

"My dad and my fourth uncle are on their way!"

Wu Feng and Zheng Qiang exchanged a look—and both smiled.

"Then let's sit and enjoy another cup of tea while we wait," Wu Feng said, returning to the table and lifting his teacup as if nothing had happened.

Zheng Qiang grabbed a handful of dried fruit and casually chewed as he sat back down.

Jiang Chen, however, felt a growing unease.

After all, Zheng Qiang had just broken Xu Peng's foot.

Would the Xu family just let it slide?

His friends might have to pay dearly for this.

"We should go," Jiang Chen urged.

"The Xu brothers and I have a grudge that goes way back," Wu Feng frowned. "Let's settle it today."

A few minutes later, a commotion erupted at the restaurant's entrance.

Soon, a large group of men stormed inside—more than thirty of them. Each wore tactical vests and armor, some wielding machetes, others holding daggers or long threaded steel rods.

Leading the charge was the portly Xu Wenbin, and at his side was his younger brother, Xu Wenwu.

"Dad! Uncle!" Xu Peng cried. "It's them!"

"Dad! Jiang Chen brought those two men to beat me up!"

"Uncle, I want to see them dead with my own eyes!"

Xu Wenwu scanned the room coldly, his gaze finally settling on Jiang Chen.

"You're Jiang Chen, aren't you? I've been looking for you. Since we've met today, how about lending me one of your legs?" he said grimly.

Then, with a wave of his hand, he shouted to his thugs,

"Take off one of his legs!"

Three large men rushed forward. Two of them grabbed Jiang Chen's arms, holding him in place. The third raised a machete and swung it down toward Jiang Chen's leg.

"Courting death!"

Jiang Chen muttered under his breath.

The system was already activated.

A surge of spiritual energy burst from his body.

In a split second, he grabbed the two men holding his arms and slammed them forward—crashing their heads together.

At the same time, their bodies intercepted the blade meant for his leg.

"Aaah!"

Both thugs screamed—cut by the very machete meant for Jiang Chen.

Like a tidal wave, Jiang Chen summoned his strength and shoved forward!

The two bodies collided with the third attacker, all three crashing to the ground several meters away.

"What a move!" Zheng Qiang cheered.

Xu Wenwu stood stunned.

He had expected to crush Jiang Chen and avenge his brother.

But Jiang Chen's skill… was godlike!

"Ahh!" Xu Peng screamed in disbelief.

"Oh my god…" Ren Li gasped, her face pale with shock, hands covering her mouth.

She couldn't believe what she had just seen.

This… this was Jiang Chen?

The same weak, powerless Jiang Chen?

The same man Xu Peng had once beaten to the ground?

She had once been his girlfriend. She had left him when Xu Peng humiliated him with violence. It was that defeat that let Xu Peng steal her away.

But now, her instincts as a woman stirred—

The primal sense that told her: this man is powerful.

Her heart trembled. For the first time, she felt something completely new toward Jiang Chen.

Wu Feng also looked at Jiang Chen with admiration, exchanging a glance with Zheng Qiang. They were both full of respect.

"Anyone else want to try me?"

Jiang Chen asked calmly.

Xu Wenbin and Xu Wenwu exchanged a look.

Jiang Chen was no mere martial artist—he was something else entirely. If they insisted on a fight now, they might all go down.

The gang of thugs, witnessing Jiang Chen's terrifying strength, began to back away in fear.

Jiang Chen didn't want to escalate things further.

He turned to Wu Feng and said,

"Let's go."

Wu Feng nodded and stood up.

The three of them walked calmly toward the door.

Xu Wenbin and Xu Wenwu stepped aside respectfully, not daring to say a word.

The gang of thugs also parted quickly, forming a path to "send off" the trio like a VIP procession.

Only Xu Peng, still unwilling to accept defeat, shouted after them:

"Jiang Chen! You broke my foot today—tomorrow I'll break your lineage!"

Smack!

Xu Wenbin slapped his son across the face and hissed:

"Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
