Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: A Ghost Spared

Ghost-Suppressing Sigil! As soon as Jiang Chen chanted in his mind, the system immediately took action.

A cold light flashed before his eyes—It formed into a silver chain that twisted and danced through the air like a snake. Sometimes thick, sometimes thin, it resembled a giant python.

Jiang Chen stood up, pointed at the ghost with his middle finger, and muttered:"By decree of the Supreme Lord Laozi—obey immediately!"

At once, the ghost shrank—its figure visibly reduced by half—and began trembling uncontrollably.

Seeing the Ghost-Suppressing Sigil work, Jiang Chen was emboldened. He lifted a foot and kicked the ghost squarely in the butt."You damn ghost! Daring to stir trouble here?!"

The ghost was light and airy. One kick sent it tumbling to the ground.Jiang Chen moved in to stomp it, but the ghost was quick—it crawled forward a few steps, dodged Jiang Chen's foot, and darted toward the window.

But Jiang Chen, strengthened and quickened by the system, was faster. With a burst of speed, he lunged forward, grabbed the ghost by the neck, yanked it back, slammed it to the floor again, and pinned it down with a firm stomp."Trying to run from Divine Doctor Jiang? Think again!"

After this exchange, the ghost knew it was in trouble. It pleaded, "Master, have mercy!"

It was a thin, frail male ghost. His face was expressionless—like a paper figure from a funeral shop—Only those hollow, black eyes reflected true terror.

"Where are you from, rotten ghost? Why are you sneaking around and harming innocent girls at night?"

The ghost trembled even more violently and replied in a trembling voice,"Master, please hear me out—I had no choice!"

"No choice? You suck people's blood and claim you had no choice?"Jiang Chen snarled, pressing his foot down harder.

The ghost's bones creaked under the pressure, nearly shattering.

"Please stop! Master, I'll talk—I died an unjust death! My boss had me killed and stole my wife. I couldn't rest in peace. I couldn't cross the Naihe Bridge to the underworld…"

Jiang Chen's ears perked up. There was something here."Keep going," he said.

"I lingered in the human world, waiting for a chance to kill him.But he's too full of masculine yang energy—I can't get close. Over time, my ghostly energy weakened, so I started stealing blood from the living to replenish myself and prepare for revenge…"

"Oh? Is this true?""Master, I wouldn't dare lie to you now!"

Jiang Chen pondered. This ghost, although guilty of bloodsucking, wasn't an evil spirit beyond redemption. It was his first offense, and the ghost had a reason.Perhaps he should be spared, encouraged to report to the underworld and reincarnate.

Jiang Chen said, "Listen—stop harming people. Go to the underworld and face judgment."

The ghost hesitated, "But… when I was dying, I swore I wouldn't rest until I avenged myself. If I die again without justice, I'll never be at peace."

"What's your boss's name? Maybe I can help you take revenge."

"His name is Li Yuzhu. He's the chairman of Tianfu Group in the province."

"Got it. Now go—I promise I'll find him when I can."

The ghost dropped to his knees and kowtowed."Master, I'm grateful. But I have no money! To enter the underworld, I must cross the Naihe Bridge. The ghost guards there won't let me through unless I bribe them. Otherwise, they'll toss me straight into the Eighteenth Hell, never to reincarnate…"

Jiang Chen nodded. He knew corruption plagued the underworld too.

He picked up the yellow joss paper that Li Xiuxian had prepared and tossed it to the ghost."Here—ten million spirit coins. Use it to grease some palms."

The ghost lit up with joy, bowed again, and disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Jiang Chen checked his watch. It was midnight.Sleepiness tugged at his mind.

He turned to see Zhao Yafeng still fast asleep in bed.Jiang Chen lay down on the sofa, closed his eyes, and quickly drifted off.

He didn't know how much time had passed when he was woken by a soft, delicate hand.He opened his eyes—and was shocked!

Zhao Yafeng was curled up beside him, smiling sweetly as she gently pinched his earlobe. They were practically pressed against each other. She was only wearing a skimpy three-piece set, her nearly entire body on full display.

"What's going on?"Jiang Chen hurriedly pushed her away. "You… are you messing with me?"

Zhao Yafeng only leaned closer, wrapped her arms around his neck, and breathed seductively,"I was scared… scared the ghost would come back."

She hugged him tightly.Jiang Chen felt like he was holding a warm, fragrant pillow. If not for the image of Wen-xian in his heart, he would've completely lost control.

He steadied himself and gently pushed her back."Enough. It's already seven o'clock. Time to get up—the ghost's long gone."

Zhao Yafeng giggled and sat up."So the ghost won't come back?"

"Definitely not."

Just then, there was a knock on the door.Zhao Yafeng skipped over to open it—it was her mother, Li Xiuxian.

She looked like she hadn't slept at all.

"Jiang Chen, are you alright?"

"Mom, he chased the ghost away!" Zhao Yafeng beamed.

"Auntie," Jiang Chen said calmly, "There was a ghost living in this villa—usually hiding behind the sofa or the bathroom door. I've expelled it. You can go check—see if those places feel different now."

Li Xiuxian nodded and hurried out.

After a while, she returned with Zhao Liang.

As soon as they entered the room, they started praising Jiang Chen."You're amazing. Absolutely amazing."

"What happened?" Jiang Chen asked.

"The places you mentioned—they always felt gloomy. Now they're bright and airy. It's obvious the ghost is gone."

"Then all is well," Jiang Chen smiled.

Zhao Liang grabbed his hand. "Jiang Chen, I must thank you properly."

"No need. Just being friends is enough," Jiang Chen said modestly.

"Friends, yes—but I still owe you a reward," Zhao Liang said. "Your bike was stolen yesterday. You don't have any transportation now. Today, I'm taking you to pick out a new car."

A new car?

Jiang Chen's heart leapt. He had just sworn yesterday that he'd get a car—and now, it was happening.

"Don't be polite." Zhao Liang pulled him toward the living room. "Let's eat breakfast first, then I'll take you to pick up that Dodge I had my eye on."
