"There's more," she said, gripping her phone tighter. "There are rumors going on about me… they're spreading online like wildfire. Every day, something new comes out. And the posts say this will go on for thirty days straight, each day exposing more about what I've done."
There was silence on the other end of the line, cold and heavy. Then the man spoke, his voice low and sharp, like a blade dipped in venom.
"And now you tell me this?".
Dessie flinched. "I—I thought it would die down, but now Dad is starting to believe something is really wrong. He told me last night that he plans to investigate whether the rumors are true."
A deep sigh came through the speaker. Then the man's voice dropped further, a dangerous rasp in his tone. "Dessie… why are you suddenly creating all sorts of trouble now?"
"I didn't—"
