Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

Chapter 10

"You are a special child, Ria. With special powers to be unlocked"

"How could you keep this away from me?" I asked, holding back my emotions

"Ria we didn't exactly keep this away from you, we just had to wait for the right time"

"Father, I have lived my entire life as a human, not knowing what I am" my emotions were getting the best of me already.

"You didn't even say anything to me concerning this matter"

"Honey, what difference does it make now that you know?"

"A lot of difference, mother. I don't want this marriage" I said, witnessing the shocked looks on their faces.

"What?"

"I don't want it anymore father, I am sorry. We have to end it"

"What are you saying child!?"

"Mother, I am no longer a child and I mean it " I didn't care anymore about what they would think. I got the answer I needed, now I just had to do what was right.

"Ria do you know what I had to do to get the both of you together? " Father said, anger very visible on his face.

"And now you want to throw it away "

"Father.... You never asked what I wanted "

"I didn't have to ask you, what do you know about marriage?"

"Fine, I know nothing about it but I know that marriage is done between two people who love each other "

"Jude loves you "

"What about me?"

"Honey, we will have this discussion later, the Eddingtons are waiting " mother interfered and I was grateful she did that because I did not even have the energy to continue the discussion, not after finding out the truth about myself.

We all headed down to the dining room with a lingering tension within the air. Even while we ate, our eyes still spoke loudly within us as we passed knowing glances amongst us.

"Is there an issue? Mr Archwin?" King Eddington ask, I guess he noticed the tension.

"No there isn't, Mr Eddington"

"Well, I just wanted to welcome you to my kingdom, it must have been a long trip judging from the...." And they continued with their discussion while Jude who sat opposite me kept staring at me for reasons which I didn't know.

"Moriah" he called my name and I looked up at him

"How have you been? The last time we ate together, you weren't in a good mood"

"I am fine, Jude" I answered as politely as I could.

"Our wedding is in two days time, very soon you will be completely mine"

I only smiled, trying to make it look real but who was I kidding? I wasn't excited at all

**

I sat quietly in my room amidst the reoccurring sounds of crickets and other insects, going over the way things turned out in my life, definitely not as expected.

I really hoped that father would do something about this marriage because it was only two days left. It wasn't even up to two days anymore, just one day and few hours left.

My mind drifted off to Luwin and what he always said about me, how did he even know that I wasn't a human all these while?

Remembering how his body lay in a coffin unmoving in that room, I just couldn't wait to cast whatever spell and free him from his curse.

**

After dinner, king Archwin and his wife retired to their room, they still had a lingering issue to resolve, the issue concerning Moriah's decision not to continue with the marriage.

"I still don't understand why your daughter has decided to bring disgrace to us" king Archwin said with annoyance.

"Oh so now she's my daughter?"

"That is not the point here, the point is the reason for her decision. Why? Everything is going perfectly already "

"Honey I don't know... Even I do not really like this family, it was all your idea, remember?. I think we should call her and ask her properly "

Moriah was sent for and she arrived as soon as possible.

"Moriah, what exactly is your main reason for refusing this marriage, we need a concrete reason before we can make a move " Queen Lisa asked her daughter who sat on the opposite chair

Moriah took in a deep breath and exhaled before she began to speak.

"First of all, I had no idea that they were all vampires. Father, you never told me Jude and his family were vampires"

"Vampires?" Queen Lisa was surprised, even she too didn't know.

"Vampires!!?... King Archwin Danté, how could you do this!" She suddenly flared up.

"And what is wrong with vampires? "King Archwin asked with both hands folded against his chest

"What is wrong with vampires? Are you really asking that question? So you can send off your daughter to live among blood sucking creatures? And still have peace of mind?"

"There is nothing wrong with vampires, Lisa, what other reason do you have, Moriah?"

"I don't think I love Jude. Father, do you know he had a bride before me but now she is no where to be found?"

"He had a bride?''

"Yes, apparently he flared up in anger and sucked all her blood and she died, oh and I heard he also ràped her" her voice died down to a whisper

"My goodness!" Lisa had a shocked look on her face. Unable to believe what she just heard.

"My last reason is that I have an assignment which I must carry out as soon as I unlock my powers"

"What assignment?"

"His name is El Mazikeen Benjen Luwin, do not tell me that you had no idea about it father"

Moriah watched as her parents went quiet, passing suspicious glances at themselves.

"Oh you both knew about it? And you didn't say anything?... Mother you too? I can't believe this "

"Ria, I am sorry. I... We heard of this a long time ago even before you were born but we did not think that it would actually be true "

"Mother, it is very true. Please, we cannot continue with this wedding anymore, please father, do something about this, I beg you "

King Archwin went quiet for a while, further making the tension to intensify. After a brief silence, he then spoke.

"Alright, let me think about it"

"Please father.... Don't let me down, I love you so much father" Moriah stared at her father with sad desperate eyes before slowly walking out of the room.

After a long and hard thinking, Mr Archwin finally came to a conclusion, after all, his daughter's happiness was paramount and important.

By morning, he approached king Eddington and put forward the matter, stating that he would like to call off the marriage but king Eddington didn't seem to take in the information well

"You want to call off the marriage? Impossible!" He flared.

"Understand me, Eddington-"

"-There is nothing to understand! The marriage is tomorrow!! No way, they are getting married and nothing will stand against it!!"
