Chapter 11 - Education

"Why do you know that guy?" (Sato)

"Oh, he decided to give me fashion advice while I was skipping school the other day." (Alya)

"Say what?" (Sato)

"Nothing, also you do know you didn't have to wait for me at the gate to make sure I came to school." (Alya)

"No comment." (Sato)

Sato turned his gaze from Alya, making her confused, but she started to walk to the school entryway. Walking through the gate was like stepping through a wavering wall of water. She was still dry in the end, though, but she turned, sticking her arm back through, feeling the same feeling as she pulled her arm back, pressing it to her chest, puzzlement on her face. Sato, who had started walking with her to the entryway, stopped walking to see what she was doing.

"Did you skip school so often that you forgot about the barrier?" (Sato)

Barrier? Thats what she felt? Well, she isn't going to admit that she had no idea about it in the first place.

"Meh." (Alya)

"Meh?" (Sato)

"I'm not a morning person, so I probably just wasn't awake enough to notice it." (Alya)

Who is she kidding? She is an insomniac who only wakes up earlier than necessary. Otherwise, she would still be a walking zombie. Are there zombies in this world? No, I think there are regular undead, not zombies, that spread the disease that made them undead. Alya's thoughts were brought to a halt like smacking her face against a light pole. She could continue her train of thought, but her mind went blank, nothing coming to mind as she looked at the building in front of her. Before she had passed the barrier, the building looked normal, a dull grey with brown bricks. It was bland, unfocused, like looking through a lens that had yet to be refocused on the subject in its view. But when she stepped through the barrier, the building seemed to shift.

Eggshell white concrete entrance with bright orange bricks forming an opening arch over double swinging doors. It was a blend of modern and historical elements, reminiscent of a historical fantasy, but with a contemporary twist. The entry bay windows were framed with vines sprouting flowers of several colors. Alya was fascinated and had a hard time stopping her eyes from wandering. The doors seemed to be made of wood and glass, but unlike those made of multiple planks of wood, they appeared to have been formed into their shape. Magic architecture? It wouldn't surprise Alya, but it was a new but interesting concept.

Alya stopped looking around like a tourist who had never seen the sights before. Making a fast movement to get to class. She will have to study everyone in class to find out who she can survey under, and if she can avoid getting involved with some of the love interests, that would also be a bonus. When she entered the classroom, Sato was not far behind her heels—hair of several colors, from the color of lilacs to the darkest of burgundy. It was odd, but Alya didn't let it bother her as she moved to sit down quickly, her mind working faster than ever as she instinctively moved to her seat and sat down with sudden finality that she couldn't help but internally shudder.

She had hoped that the only reason she would ever return to a school was if she had a family of her own. Who was she kidding? She was older than everyone in this room, if going by her mental age. She might even be older than a couple of the teachers in this school. Three girls crowded around a girl with green hair.

"Have you finished your homework?" (Pink hair)

"We had homework?" (Green hair)

"Guessing you slept through classes again, Kai?" (Purple hair)

"No, well, yes, but how was I supposed to remember to do my homework when I wasn't awake for class?" (Green hair {Kai})

A young girl holding her hand palm up while leaning against the wall spoke up as sparkles of green and blue flowed over her hand.

"Rin, did your family already start teaching you magic?" (Pink hair)

"I'm jealous you should convince your parents to let us join you." (Kai)

"They only started teaching me how to manifest my mana to discover my elements." (Silver hair {Rin})

"So? They are boring here; they haven't even taught us magic yet, just teaching us all the laws. Rules we have to follow when using magic." (Kai)

"I'd rather learn the rules about it than randomly get arrested or kicked out of school. Although I would probably receive some fame on Kinta though." (Pink hair)

"They would probably ban the video, you know, how they are starting to get sanctioned by the government." (Rin)

Alya listened to their conversation but then looked down at the lunch boxes she forgot to take care of and saw Sato sitting at the front of the class. Did she seriously space out and not hand him his lunch? How stupid can she be? She didn't bother berating herself, so she got up and moved over to Sato's desk and set it down in front of Sato, who was talking to a young boy who looked a couple of years younger than the rest of the class, his eyes silver grey with ashen black hair.

Alya didn't bother staring at the young boy, his face raising alarm bells about him being one of the love interests, but since she doesn't know his name, she won't make assumptions.

"Sorry, I forgot to hand this to you." (Alya)

Sato seemed surprised at the food in front of him as she moved to walk away.
