Half-past nine in the evening.
Lorelei lay sprawled in her room, utterly bored.
She had originally been quite eager to continue staying in the small wooden house, but after just two days, she realized that living without a television or any form of entertainment was unbearably dull.
She wondered how Riku had managed to live on this island for so long. Perhaps it was because he'd never experienced the colorful world outside that he could tolerate such a monotonous life.
Thinking this, Lorelei couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for Riku. She began considering the idea of taking him out to see the world someday.
Suddenly, laughter rang out outside the small house—clear and inexplicably gleeful.
Recognizing Riku's voice, Lorelei immediately opened the door and asked suspiciously,
"Why are you laughing so happily?"
"Didn't you say you were going to train Lapras and see if you could catch a powerful Pokémon?"
"Did you manage to catch something with quasi-legendary potential?"
"Better than quasi-legendary," Riku replied with a grin, then tossed out a Poké Ball.
"Come out, little duck!"
Bang—
A duck Pokémon popped out of the ball, looking around at its unfamiliar surroundings with a blank expression.
But when it turned to look at Riku, its eyes revealed a complicated mix of emotions—annoyance, confusion, fear... and finally, submission.
Lorelei frowned slightly. "Farfetch'd? That's it?"
"Gaa gaa gaa!"
Offended by her tone, Farfetch'd angrily raised the leek stalk it carried, ready to strike.
But just as it was about to make a move, it sensed a dangerous aura radiating from Lorelei.
It immediately understood—this woman undoubtedly possessed very powerful Pokémon.
"Alright, calm down," Riku stepped in to mediate.
"So, you're called Farfetch'd? That name suits you."
"I just need to know your strength—don't worry about anything else."
Lorelei shook her head. "Farfetch'd's base stats are nothing to write home about. No matter how much you train it, there's only so much it can improve."
Riku responded firmly, "It's just that no one ever properly guided Farfetch'd. With the right training, I'm sure it'll become strong."
"Besides, it knows how to grow scallions. That alone makes it priceless to me!"
"You caught a Farfetch'd just for scallions?" Lorelei sighed in exasperation.
"I thought you wanted to become a powerful Pokémon Trainer."
"Now it seems I was mistaken."
"Think what you want," Riku replied indifferently, waving her off.
Then he looked at Farfetch'd. "Come with me. I'll introduce you to your future companions."
With that, he led Farfetch'd toward the berry forest.
Watching Riku's retreating figure, Lorelei hesitated for a moment before turning back to the wooden house.
---
Over the past two days, Lorelei had noticed Riku frequently heading into that berry forest.
She had taken the opportunity to check it out while he was away.
But she hadn't found anything noteworthy—no interesting Pokémon, and none of the berries were familiar to her.
She simply assumed Riku was messing around.
In truth, had her Champion-level Pokémon not been injured, they might have sensed something unusual about the forest.
---
Riku and Farfetch'd soon entered the berry forest.
The moment they arrived, the three legendary birds and Groudon immediately sensed movement.
Had Riku brought another human, they would have hidden right away.
But since it was a Pokémon, they didn't even bother to move.
"Master, where did that Farfetch'd come from?" Groudon asked, drooling as soon as it saw the duck.
"Did you catch it to add to our meal?"
"This duck is great! It even comes with its own scallion—must taste amazing braised."
"Don't even start," Moltres chimed in eagerly.
"Just thinking about it makes my mouth water."
"I'm a foodie too, and most Pokémon are hard to swallow, but Farfetch'd? Now that's an exception."
"The most hateful thing is humans," Zapdos added.
"They hunted Farfetch'd so relentlessly—probably because it comes pre-seasoned—that it became a rare species!"
"All you ever talk about is eating!" Riku snapped.
"From now on, Farfetch'd is your companion—your brother."
"If any of you dare lay a finger on him, you're dead meat! I'll make sure to torture you all severely!"
While Riku was busy reprimanding the legendary Pokémon, Farfetch'd trembled beside him.
With its keen instincts, it could immediately tell—these were legendary Pokémon.
And having lived in the Orange Archipelago for years, how could it not recognize the three legendary birds?
Terrified, it collapsed to the ground, its webbed feet shaking uncontrollably.
"Look what you've done—your nonsense scared it!" Riku shouted.
"Tch, it's just useless. What does that have to do with us?" Groudon said disdainfully.
"Useless? You dare call Farfetch'd useless?!" Riku was furious.
"I think you're the useless one!"
"Farfetch'd may not be a strong fighter, but it can grow incredibly fragrant scallions! From now on, I think you all can forget about eating them!"
"What?!" The three legendary birds and Groudon immediately sprang up in alarm.
They rushed over to the terrified Farfetch'd, helped it to its feet, and even patted its dusty behind.
"This is our brother! Our own brother!"
"Farfetch'd, it was all just a misunderstanding earlier. You grow those scallions well, and we guarantee you a life of wealth, honor, and peace."
"Exactly!" Zapdos said, pointing at Lapras.
"A Pokémon as outstanding as you deserves to be our brother. That Lapras over there is useless!"
Lapras, who hadn't said a word this entire time, looked shocked.
How did it suddenly get dragged into this?
And it was sure it was useful!
Seeing Lapras's aggrieved expression, Riku roared,
"What kind of nonsense are you spouting?"
"If it weren't for Lapras, I'd still be relying on May's Blastoise to leave the island!"
"Enough. Farfetch'd, come with me."
Riku led Farfetch'd to a patch of land near the berry forest.
He had already made up his mind when he captured Farfetch'd.
And under the immense pressure from the four legendary Pokémon, Farfetch'd immediately got to work planting scallions without a single complaint.
As he imagined the flourishing future ahead, Riku felt deeply fulfilled and gratified.
