A sealed office.
Shen Yan blinked.
Lin Lan's expression froze for a second, then he blinked as if he had just seen a hallucination.
"…That's it?"
> [Fate modification complete.]
[Host, please evacuate promptly. This editing terminal will shut down in 10 seconds.]
"…"
Shen Yan: "That's all you wrote?"
He glanced at the new line of text on the screen, his tone full of disbelief:
"I came to rewrite fate, not to write a damn Weibo trending headline."
Lin Lan leaned over to read it:
"'The killer no longer haunts the dream'… sounds like the title of a paranormal novel."
"It's the truth," Shen Yan leaned back in the chair, wearing a face that practically said "System, bite me if you dare."
"The dream attacks have stopped. The source is cut off. That's the result."
> [System Alert: Emotional fluctuation detected in host.]
[Please mind your wording.]
Lin Lan couldn't hold back a laugh:
"Look, you've pissed it off so much it's about to short-circuit."
Shen Yan looked at the screen and said calmly:
"Too much greed, and the system bites."
He paused, then slowly added:
"Come on then, System—wanna bite me?"
> […]
[System terminal shutdown in: 5, 4, 3…]
Shen Yan stood up.
"Let's go." He patted Lin Lan on the shoulder. "We've got other answers to find."
"That's it?" Lin Lan followed him out of the office.
"You're not going to tweak a little more? Maybe throw in my future college entrance exam scores while you're at it?"
"Don't get greedy." Shen Yan glanced back at him, smiling like someone walking alone at night.
"Fate isn't a supermarket clearance. Take one extra can of beans, and the system calls the cops."
The office door closed behind them.
The screen went blank.
The lights went out.
The system interface flickered.
