Chapter 9 - History of Dust: IX

Taiyang frowned as he looked outside the window. "Oum dammit Qrow, don't tell me you fell into a ditch again somewhere…"

Well, unfortunate for him, but lucky for me. I don't want to meet the guy who I accidentally broke number fucking one of all magi in front of. Judging by how no one has mentioned any sort of magic, it's definitely safe to assume that the no witnesses rule still apply here.

"Well, looks like we're having dinner without Uncle Qrow, kids."

"Aww, did he fall asleep in a tavern somewhere again?" Little red pouted. "I wanna see his cool Scythe!"

"Maybe later, Cookie Monster." Taiyang stretched his back, before heading to the kitchen. "Can you and Yang help me carry the dishes to the dining table?"

"Sure."

"Okay!"

"Me and Morrow will set the table then, if ya won't mind." He nudged me with his arm.

"It's 'Morrow and I'," I corrected. "And stop doing that. I know I know, alright?" I grumble.

"Eh, Potato potato." He shrugged.

"You're never gonna let that go, are you?"

"Hell nah."

"Why did I get you of all people…"

[Line break]

"Alright, here you all go!" Taiyang cheerfully placed down a plate of food in front of all of us.

"Welp, don't mind if I do!" Cu instantly started wolfing down the meal.

"Thanks again for having us." I calmly start to tuck in, deadpanning at Cu's manners.

"Not a problem at all! I couldn't really live with myself if I just let two kids sleep on the streets!" I'm pretty sure Cu is way older than you, or an infant in your eyes. Honestly depends how you perceive Akasha.

"I mean, we could've figured something out-" I tried to argue, only to be immediately interrupted by three empty plates.

""More please!""

"What the two lassies said!"

I…

Root dammit Cu, be more mature!

[Line break]

"Man, that's a good meal! I'm kinda jealous of these lassies." Cu smirked. "Morrow over there always overcooks his food, and I only know how to grill fish, so it's not like we have a lot of appealing options."

"Oi."

"Not even gonna deny it?"

"Bugger off."

"Hah!" He even had the gall to snicker at me! Well, let's see you snicker now when I refuse to cook you anything!

"Ah, stranger Morrow! Stranger Cu!" Stranger? I mean, I guess we are, but that just sounds weird.

"Mhm, whatcha need, lil red?"

"Can I see your weapons? Please, pretty please!" She literally did a puppy dog eyes for us, not very effective though.

"Sure, lass." Eh? Wait, don't tell me you're actually gonna- "Watch out for the barbs."

"OMG THIS IS SO COOL IT HAS SO MANY DETAILS DID YOU MAKE IT YOURSELF!?!?!?" Contrary to my belief, she did not freak out when she saw Gae Bolg and it's bloodthirsty aura, but instead she became a lot more interested.

"That's… Quite a weapon you have there…" Uh, Mr Xiao Long isn't so unphased though… He's sweating bullets. "Where did you find that?"

"Ah, my teacher, I usually call her Old Hag, don't let her know that though…" He suddenly looked nervous. "She'll beat me into the ground, and even I'm not looking forward to that…"

"Uh, can you describe her?"

"Uhh, dark hair, really talented, ruthless in training, also reddish eyes. Why, you know her?"

"… No, she just sounds familiar…"

"Huh, weird."

I feel like I'm missing a lot of important context…

"IM BACK!" The door suddenly slams open, and stumbles in a drunkard- Wait, that's the guy who saw me use magecraft…

"Uhh, Tai?"

"Yeah? Oh, by the way, we have guests."

"Dude, I was looking for him for like, an entire month."

"…"

"Cu?"

"Got it."

Before either of them can react, Cu snatched back his spear from Red and Blondie, before picking me up and dashing through the door into the nearby forest.

"Sorry! And thanks for the meal!" I shouted over the wind.

"What Morrow said!" Cu nodded.

[Line break]

"And he just ran away…" Qrow sunk to the ground. "Countless nights without sleep, only to find that kid here, and then he slips right through…"

"There there… Also, apparently your sister picked up an apprentice."

"SHE DID WHAT!?"
