The room they entered wasn't like the previous ones.
It was rectangular, lit with a warm yellow glow, and its floor was covered with soft grey carpet. No screens, no commands, no robotic voices. Only silent walls, grey sofas scattered along the sides, and a small corner with hot beverages and clean blankets.
They sat in silence, only five this time.
Ira's absence felt like a void in their formation, an emptiness no remaining feature could fill. Her departure had left a deep fissure in the group's very being.
Faro sat in the farthest corner, eyes closed, as if his body was present but his consciousness was still trapped in the previous room, seeing what he wished to forget.
Nayan wrapped a blanket around herself even though the room wasn't cold. She hadn't uttered a word since they left. Her face was blank, as if her features had been stolen from her after the ordeal she endured, as if she wasn't truly there.
Silo tried to appear normal, but failed with every attempt. He moved frequently, fidgeting with his hair, drinking water then forgetting it in his hand, adjusting a cushion behind his back only to stand up again; his inner anxiety showing in every movement.
Kai sat near the wall, observing them all. He didn't speak, but he jotted something down in a small notebook he pulled from his pocket, perhaps trying to comprehend what was happening or record the terrifying details.
Jarm was the only one who seemed asleep, but his strained breathing and the hand gripping the blanket tightly told a different story, as if sleep was merely a disguise he was attempting to hide behind.
The first hour passed in almost complete silence, then the tension began to soften, and their breaths quieted slightly, as if their bodies were starting to find some semblance of rest. But their minds remained restless.
Yet none of them could truly feel it.
Deep within them, the echoes of the previous rooms reverberated as a painful reminder:
Nayan's muffled scream.
Ira's last look before darkness swallowed her.
The sound of the door closing behind Samer.
And here they were now... only five.
Waiting for the end.
Or its beginning.
