Chapter 14 - Chapter 13 - Reina and The Girl

September 16th, 2013

It had been two weeks since Reina and Kiana transferred to Chiba Academy.

Nothing much had happened during that time. Their school life was pretty normal and followed the same routine every day. Reina would always take notes in class, writing down everything the teacher said and write. Later, she would go over it all with Kiana, who usually slept through class or ignored the lessons completely.

Over the past two weeks, Reina, being her usual self, had tried to make friends with everyone in class. But because of how Kiana introduced herself on their first day, most of the students kept their distance.

Another reason was that nobody had heard of the family names "Zero" or "Kaslana." Most of the students here were just trying to build connections with famous or wealthy families while they were in school.

Still, Reina did manage to become friends with one girl.

One day, during a break, Reina was walking to the restroom near stairs to the rooftop when she suddenly came across a bullying scene. Three girls were ganging up on another girl.

The girl being bullied was soaking wet, her long light-purple hair covering her face as she looked down at the floor. Reina could hear a lot of cruel words being thrown at her by the other three girls.

One of them even grabbed the girl's hair, saying how jealous she was of its natural color.

While the other two laughed at the girl, they moved in closer, cornering her so she couldn't escape.

Just as the three bullies were having fun tormenting her, a voice suddenly came from behind them.

"My~ my~ I didn't expect to see something like this happening here."

They all froze and quickly turned around, worried that a teacher had caught them-but it was just another student, a girl like them.

"Tch, just another student. Get lost if you don't want to end up like her," one of them snapped at Reina.

"Don't be like that~ I want to join too, you know," Reina said with a sweet smile.

The girls were caught off guard. They expected her to run off and report them, but instead, she said she wanted to join in.

"You want to join?"

"Of course~" Reina smiled brightly.

Meanwhile, the girl being bullied was shaking with fear. If three people already treated her like this, what would happen if there were four? Would they grab her and take pictures again, like before?

But then Reina tilted her head slightly and said, "Ah, I forgot to mention-I'll join her, not you three."

The moment those words left her mouth, her red, ruby-like eyes began to glow faintly with power.

In an instant, the three bullies froze. The light in their eyes dimmed, and their expressions went blank.

Just like that, all three of them were completely under Reina's control.

Reina could've easily ordered the three girls to confess everything to the teachers-but she already knew how that would end.

Their parents would just bribe the school staff, and the girls would walk away without punishment. Nothing would change.

So instead, she gave them another command.

"Now I want you three to soak yourselves with water, just like what you did to her. After that, go run around the school field fifty times without stopping," she said calmly.

"And one more thing. I want you to forget what happened here. In the future, if you ever even think of bullying someone again, I want you to do the same-drench yourselves and run fifty laps."

"Yesss..." they answered in unison, their voices dull and empty.

Without hesitation, the three girls turned on the tap water and soaked themselves. Once completely drenched, they ran out of the restroom and headed straight for the field.

After they left, Reina turned her attention to the girl still huddled in the corner, trembling.

"Are you okay?" she asked gently as she walked over. But then she paused, realizing how stupid that question sounded. "No, that's a dumb question. Of course you're not okay. Let me ask this instead-do you need anything?"

Her voice was soft and kind. She didn't want to scare the girl more than she already had been.

The girl was shorter than Reina. From where Reina stood, she could see how soaked her long, light-purple hair was, clinging to her skin. Her uniform was also wet and stuck tightly to her body, making her underwear slightly visible through the fabric.

"I'm fine. I just need to dry my clothes..." the girl replied quietly. Her voice was low, like someone who had been through this more than once.

"Nope. You'll catch a cold if I let you stay like that."

Reina reached into her pocket-and somehow pulled out a dry school uniform in her size.

"Here, change into this," she said, handing it to the girl.

"where did that come from?" the girl asked, confused.

"Don't think too much about it. Just go change in one of the stalls. This restroom is far from the other classrooms, so no one usually comes here."

Reina handed her the clothes, and then reached into her pocket and using her Creation power again she created a towel for her.

"And here, a towel. When you're done, I'll help you fix your hair."

The girl stared at her, clearly unable to understand how Reina was pulling out items way too big for her pockets. But in the end, she let Reina gently push her toward one of the stalls with the uniform and towel in hand.

After the strange girl gently pushed her into the stall, she was left alone, holding the new school uniform and towel in her arms.

She looked down at them-both items were clearly brand new. The uniform still had its crispness, and the towel's color was bright and untouched.

"How did she pull this out of her pocket?" she muttered to herself. She had clearly seen the girl reach into that small pocket and somehow pull out both items.

She honestly thought today would just be like any other day.

Her name was Aoyama Yuna. She was one of the few students in Chiba Academy who managed to get in through hard work, not money or family connections.

Her family was just a regular one. She lived with her mother, who worked from morning till night to support them. Her father had passed away from illness years ago. That was why Yuna had been studying so hard-she didn't want to worry her mother any more than necessary. She had earned her place in this school through a scholarship.

But from the very first day, she realized she didn't really belong here.

When a group of girls had asked her name, she had felt a spark of hope-maybe they wanted to be friends. But it turned out all they wanted to know was if she came from a rich family.

And the moment they found out she was just a scholarship student, they lost interest.

At first, she thought she could handle being ignored.

But then everything changed.

Before she knew it, she had become a target-just something for the rich kids to mess with whenever they were in a bad mood.

As the days went by, the bullying kept getting worse. It got to the point where they once made her strip while laughing at her.

Even when she told the teachers, the only thing the girls got was a simple warning. That made things worse. After that, they started bullying her even more.

In the end, she decided it was better to stay quiet and just endure it until she graduated.

She never told her mother either. She didn't want to worry her. So every time her mom asked about school, she put on a smile and said everything was fine.

The bullying continued... until her second year in school, when two new foreign girls transferred into her class.

She didn't pay much attention to them. She already had too much on her plate and was focused on studying, hoping she could apply for early graduation.

All she noticed was that the two girls seemed to have a "special" relationship with each other. And thanks to that, the bullying she usually got stopped for about a week. Everyone's attention shifted to the new students instead.

But after a week, things went back to the way they were.

And today, the girls told her to follow them to this restroom-the one nobody really used.

They soaked her clothes completely, yanked her hair, and made a mess of it all over again.

"My~ my~ I didn't expect to see something like this happening here."

While she was still getting bullied, a girl's voice suddenly echoed in the restroom, making everyone look toward it.

She saw a girl taller than her standing there, smiling with a finger on her lips. She had long jet-black hair that almost shimmered under the light and deep red eyes that glared at the bullies.

It was one of the new transfer students. Somehow, she had shown up here.

Then something strange happened.

As the three girls talked with her, they suddenly poured water over themselves-just like they had done to her-and ran out of the restroom.

She could tell the girl had done something to them, but she didn't understand what it was.

And now, that same girl had given her a fresh school uniform and a towel to change into... leaving her in this weird situation.

After changing into the new uniform, Yuna stepped out of the stall. She saw Reina standing by the mirror, fixing her hair.

As soon as Reina heard the stall door open, she turned to face her.

"How is it? Does the uniform fit? Here, put your wet clothes in this bag," she said, holding out a plastic bag.

Yuna glanced at her, then at the bag.

"It's fine. It fits just like my old one," she replied while placing the soaked clothes inside.

"What about your underwear? Is it wet too?"

"Wha—? N-No, I'm fine with just the uniform, thank you."

"Hmm, then let's go."

Without waiting for a reply, Reina grabbed Yuna's hand and started pulling her out of the restroom.

"Wait, wait—where are we going?" Yuna asked, startled by the sudden movement.

"To the rooftop, of course. Your hair's still really wet, and if we leave it like that, it'll ruin your beautiful hair."

"No, you don't have to do that... It's just hair. Let me handle it myself. You already helped me with the uniform," Yuna said quickly, trying to pull her hand free.

"Nope, you're coming with me."

In the end, Yuna got dragged along until they finally arrived at the rooftop.

There, two girls were already sitting, surrounded by several bento boxes.

"I'm back, Kiana! Look, I brought someone with me this time," Reina said with a grin.

Kiana was staring at the food like she was trying her best not to start eating right away.

"Huh? Mei? When did you get here?" Reina asked when she saw another girl sitting beside Kiana.

Even though Reina and Kiana had become friends with Mei, it wasn't easy to hang out with her often. Mei was the type of student who loved helping everyone. After school, she always went to her kendo club, so they didn't get much time together.

At most, they would sometimes talk briefly in the morning before class when they met at the school gates.

"Hello, Reina. I had some free time today, so I thought I'd come up here. Kiana mentioned before that you two usually spend break time here," Mei said while giving Reina a small wave.

But then she noticed the girl standing behind Reina.

"Who's that?" Kiana and Mei asked at the same time.

"Oh, this is Aoyama Yuna," Reina answered cheerfully.

Then, Reina began telling them about what happened earlier when she went to the restroom.

A few moments later...

"WHAT THE HELL!? UNBELIEVABLE! WHERE ARE THOSE BITCHES WHO BULLIED YOU?!"

Kiana's voice echoed across the rooftop, filled with fury. Her eyes unconsciously glowed golden with rage.

["See? I told you. Humans are just scum—let's kill them."]

"Alright, let's go!"

"Nope. Don't you dare move from that spot, Kiana," Reina warned, still calmly brushing Yuna's long light purple hair with a small comb.

"But..." Kiana glanced at Yuna with a frustrated look in her glowing eyes.

"Still no. They're just humans. If we lay a hand on them, someone's going to investigate. And don't forget—you're already working on another case, aren't you?"

Reina was talking about the recent string of missing persons. For the past few days, Kiana had decided to dig into it, determined to find the culprit.

So far, all she knew was that the victims were all girls, all around their age.

"Ki-Kiana, calm down. I-I can probably tell the teacher about what happened," Mei said gently, trying to ease Kiana's anger.

"But Mei, they bullied someone like her—like it was nothing. I bet they've been doing it for a long time. Bullies like that usually keep going until they graduate..."

"It's useless, Mei." Reina spoke up before Kiana could continue. "You're from a well-known family, so you'll never see the other side of this school.

They only pick on people who come from weaker or average backgrounds—those they think no one will protect."

"Anyway, it doesn't matter. I've already made sure they'll never bully anyone again."

After a few more minutes of carefully brushing and styling, she finally pulled her hands away and nodded in satisfaction.

"All done! I knew this style would suit you. Kiana's hair is way too thin and soft to hold it properly, but your thicker hair is perfect for it~"

Yuna sat there quietly, still unsure how to react after Reina finished tidying her hair. Her fingers gently brushed over the styled strands, feeling how smooth and neat it was—so different from how it usually felt after getting yanked and soaked.

Then, without a word, Reina reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, elegant mirror—simple in design but clearly high quality. She handed it to Yuna with a faint smile.

"Here. Take a look."

Yuna blinked. "From your pocket... again?"

"Don't think too hard about it," Reina said casually, resting her chin in her palm. "Now look."

Hesitantly, Yuna took the mirror and held it up. The reflection staring back at her made her go still.

Her eyes widened slightly.

Her hair, which had always been a mess after being pulled and soaked, now looked soft and neat. It was tied in a gentle half-up style, the strands flowing smoothly over her shoulders, with a subtle twist at the back that made her look more mature—almost like someone from a fancy family herself.

"...It's pretty," she mumbled under her breath, barely audible.

"So? Do you like it?"

Yuna turned around, still unsure how to react. Her fingers lightly touched the styled parts of her hair.

"I... I've never had anyone do something like this for me," she said, voice small, almost trembling. "It's... more than I deserve."

"Hmm? What kind of nonsense is that?" Reina said, tilting her head. "You deserve way more than just a hairstyle. But I'm glad you like it."

Kiana leaned forward, still sulking a bit from earlier. "You do look good. Like... really good. Honestly, I'm a little jealous."

"Your hair's too thin, remember?" Reina teased.

"You didn't have to say it again!"

Even Mei let out a soft chuckle at their bickering, before turning her gaze back to Yuna.

"You really do look different with your hair like that," Mei said kindly. "It suits you."

For a moment, Yuna stood quietly—surrounded by three girls she barely knew but had done more for her in one day than anyone else had since she entered this school.

"...Thank you," she whispered.

Reina smiled gently. "You're welcome. Now, let's eat. Kiana's going to explode if we wait any longer."

"Hey!" Kiana cried, though her hands were already inching toward one of the bento boxes.
