Chapter 7 - Arrival

"So tell me about this nightmare." Quinn had pressed into the matter.

Worry hung on Callums mind, knowing over sharing would cause a problem. He made an attempt to divert the attention of the bright man.

"Wouldn't proper manners be to tell me of yours first." Callum retorted.

Quinns face lit up with enthusiasm. The bright spirited man had been as simple minded as Callum hoped. Easily being torn off the topic as he began spouting his story.

'My trial wasn't all that bad honestly. I was dropped alone on a desolate island. All I really had to do was hunt nightmare creatures for food for a couple months. Eventually I came face to face with the islands lord and I won the fight."

The man radiated with joy as he retold the tale. The feats that he made sound so easy and natural were really anything but.

The fact that he would've been powerless and weaponless. Yet he hunted monsters that prevailed against the entire might of humanities former military powers.

The lighthearted fool act was so natural that it was almost easy to miss the fact that. Accomplishing such a feat would be tantamount to death for any normal person.

A few questions came to Callums mind but the conversation was cut to an end there. Dallas approached from the side and put a hand on Callums shoulder.

"Let's go, I have duties to get back to so I'll show you to your quarters now."

"Ahh you're just as dull and impatient as ever, aren't you Dallas." A smirk gleaned across Quinns face.

Dallas scoffed and threw daggers in his direction with his eyes. "I said lets go."

Callum stood from the metal bench, waving a farewell to his new acquaintance before following Dallas through the doorway of the colorless cafeteria.

The other two new bloods were standing at the door, waiting to be shown to their quarters too.

They took a journey through the twisting tunnels of the citadels guard keep. It was by far the largest building within the citadel. A giant rectangular building with a training field in the center of it. Swords clashing and grunts of effort typically heard at most times of the day.

They reached the living space, Dallas looked at the three new bloods that were his shadow for the day.

The living quarters was a large open area with cots lined side by side, he pointed to the cots and announced.

"Pick one, it'll be as close to a sanctuary as you get while here." While no one had a private space, each bed had a chest at the end of it. Marking who it belonged to.

Each of the three new bloods claimed an empty cot. The day was arduous and mundane but Callum felt his body give way to sleep relatively easily.

The pain and adjustments of the serum still affecting his body. As his body drifted into sleep he found his mind some place else.

Weightless and floating through a vast expanse of pure white light. As Callum looked around darkness started to form in the distance.

He watched as the darkness began overtaking everything, a silent war of colors. Until finally the pitch black abyss stopped growing.

With the dark two large golden circles opened, the abyss was staring directly at Callum. Despite the seemingly terrifying occurrence taking place, Callum felt no fear.

He recognized those eyes of demonic origin. Verotide made his way from the darkness. The beast was freely moving within the vast empty expanse. Giving Callum a chance to witness just how immense the monstrosity was.

His body went on forever, seemingly long enough to wrap itself around the entire world. Leaving Callum looking like a grain of sand being compared to the size of an entire ocean.

The serpentine body of the beast was covered in the black tendrils. Freely protruding from its black skin in thousands of tree like fibers.

Peering out of the abyss at Callum, the beasts face twisted into the same sinister smile that left a haunting impression on Callum.

Then the words boomed into Callums mind that shook him to his core. The realization finally settling in as to what the horrid entity tricked him into.

'Finally, the bridge is complete.'

The first to notice it was a few of the guards that were settling in to the living quarters for the day. A black vapor started to form above Callums sleeping body. Growing more dense and expanding endlessly. Consuming the entire room in a matter of seconds.

The people of the citadel could do nothing but watch in fear as the vapor began encompassing the entirety of its massive domed walls.

The steel fortress which was large enough to home and entire city was becoming consumed by darkness. At the center of it all was Callum.

With the entirety of the citadel shrouded in darkness, people panicked. Until finally the cause of the disturbance showed it's ugly head.

Verotide burst through the black vapor his long body soaring out of it at an incredible velocity. Piercing the heavens as he flew through the air.

The head of the serpent reached into space before his tail made its way out of the portal. The beast forged forward, launching itself through the expanse of stars and planets. Creating a new celestial body of unimaginable horror.

The vapor began to dissipate, going back to where it came from. The beast left the planet but not before leaving it's mark on the celestial body. The vapor spread itself into a circle.

Nearly 100 miles in diameter, everything the vapor consumed was now gone. Leaving a giant lifeless crater. Laying in the center of the massive crater.

Was Callum, the source of the abominations arrival. Callums eyes opened with horror, watching from below as the serpent soared through space.

Realizing that he has just unleashed a cosmic catastrophe. Callum shivered as he watched helplessly. The beast soaring through space until it reached the moon.

The immense serpent wrapped it's length around the body of the moon and rested its head on the surface. Leaving a foreboding horror as it claimed it's new resting spot.

Callum was trying his best to wrap his mind around what happened but the task was impossible. Not only was he left laying in the middle of a lifeless crater that expanded as far as he could see in any direction.

He just released a beast large enough to curl it's body around a planet and fast enough to travel from earth to the moon in just an hour.

Callum just laid in the spot the beast left him in for hours. The poor shell of a man was already hanging on to his sanity by a thread.

Now he was left so thoroughly broken that thoughts didn't enter his mind. Like a lifeless shell. He laid in the center of the crater, devoid of all feeling and emotion.

Once again reality made its goal, one of destruction with Callum at the center of it all. His life torn from his hands in a brutally sudden twist.

The broken man didn't move a muscle, but he closed his eyes.
