"huh~ another quest" said the Demon Lord Lin Xuanji(Mo Tianzun) and start walking outside to welcome those ghosts
———
As the last rays of the sun vanished beyond the jagged mountain ridges, an eerie silence descended over Yinling Village. Not even the wind dared to whisper.
Inside their houses, the villagers followed Lin Xuanji's orders strictly. No windows were open, no light from candles flickered. The entire village looked like a graveyard—silent, dark, and still.
Only one man stood in the center of the dirt path that ran through the village, his white robes fluttering lightly in the night air. Lin Xuanji (Mo Tianzun), the Demon Lord—stood with his hands behind his back, his expression unreadable.
The mist thickened.
Then came the howls.
First one—then many. Dozens. Hundreds.
From the shadowed forest encircling the village, figures began to emerge—twisted, misshapen beasts with bone-white skin and flaming eyes. Some crawled on all fours, their bodies stitched together like broken dolls. Others slithered, headless but sensing their prey. Behind them were the ghosts: tall, floating phantoms with weeping faces and blackened nails as long as blades.
Their presence made the air grow cold.
Lin Xuanji finally moved. With a flick of his sleeve, a black ring flew from his finger, expanding mid-air and transforming into a massive, pitch-black spear—the Abyss Spear of the Demon Sea Dragon.
"Come then," he said softly, but his voice carried like thunder through the fog. "Let's see if you're strong enough to challenge the demon you've been chasing."
With a bang, the first spirit beast lunged at him—its claws aiming straight for his chest.
But Lin Xuanji didn't flinch.
He vanished.
A split-second later, a streak of black lightning shot from above, his spear slicing clean through the beast's neck. It collapsed before it even realized it had been struck.
The other monsters hesitated—but only for a moment.
Suddenly, a dozen leapt at him all at once. Their claws glittered, their teeth gnashed. But Lin Xuanji spun, his spear dancing like a black dragon through the mist. Every move he made was swift, precise, and graceful like flowing water—but each strike carried deadly force.
CLANG! WHISH! THUMP!
The ground trembled as ghost after ghost fell, dissipating into mist with echoing shrieks. Bloodless, soulless wails filled the night, shaking the wooden houses.
In one motion, Xuanji stabbed his spear into the ground, then flipped into the air, unleashing a blast of demonic Qi in all directions. The attack took the form of a howling phantom dragon—its roar echoing through the valley. It crashed into a group of charging beasts, turning them into ash on impact.
Watching secretly through a tiny crack in the floorboards, little Ling Xi's eyes were wide in awe. Her mother held her close, whispering soft prayers—but even she couldn't look away.
Outside, Lin Xuanji stood alone in a widening circle of corpses and fading phantoms.
Then, the mist began to churn violently.
From the shadows emerged a new figure—eight feet tall, a body made of bones wrapped in chains, and four glowing eyes stacked in pairs. Around its neck hung a chain of skulls. This was no ordinary ghost. This was a Wraith General—a war-spirit from the Demon Realm.
Lin Xuanji narrowed his eyes.
"So you've sent your dogs ahead, and now the general shows himself," he muttered.
The Wraith General spoke in a voice like grinding stone: "You who dare wield the Abyss Spear… you are Mo Tianzun?"
Xuanji smirked, spinning his spear in a lazy arc. "Took you long enough to recognize your old master."
With a howl, the Wraith General lunged.
What followed was a battle of pure chaos and fire. Every clash between Lin Xuanji's spear and the Wraith General's bone-blades shook the very ground. Energy blasts ripped through the village outskirts, shattering boulders and uprooting trees. Spirit flames danced across the rooftops but never touched the villagers' homes—almost as if something, or someone, protected them.
The two combatants moved faster than the eye could follow. Lin Xuanji vaulted off tree trunks, dragged his spear in flaming arcs, and even used Shadow Steps, a forbidden technique, to blink across short distances.
But the Wraith General was no weakling. It howled and cast chains of soul-fire, trying to bind Xuanji's limbs. It raised the dead beneath the soil to grab at his ankles.
At one point, the Wraith General impaled Lin Xuanji through the shoulder—but Xuanji only laughed, grabbed the bone-sword with both hands, and snapped it in half.
"You forgot who I am," he whispered coldly.
With one last cry, he summoned all the Devil Qi from his dantian and channeled it into the Abyss Spear. The weapon howled—alive with power.
With a roar, Lin Xuanji threw the spear forward.
BOOM!
The weapon pierced through the Wraith General's chest, carrying it backward until it struck the mountain wall—impaling it there like a cursed banner. With a final scream, the Wraith exploded into a mist of black and silver.
Silence returned.
——
A breeze passed through the village.
Slowly, one by one, the villagers opened their doors. No monsters remained. No ghosts lingered. Only Lin Xuanji stood in the square, breathing slowly, covered in ash and dried blood—but smiling.
"I told you," he said, turning toward the little girl peeking through her window. "You can sleep now. No more ghosts."
The villagers didn't cheer—but they bowed. Every man, woman, and child lowered their heads.
Because even if they feared him, they now knew: a devil had protected them.
And devils, too, could be heroes.
