Chapter 10 - 10. A Gold Digger

As the night progressed, the wedding dinner came to an end. Countless distinguished guests wished them a happy marriage, with tons of gift presented to them. The couple came home alongside Liam's mother, who had to leave after speaking some senses into her son not to act up and ignore her. He wasn't pleased, but had to respect their decisions. He has done a lot out of his will for them.

Laylah got changed and went into the washroom to shower, leaving Liam downstairs making calls. A few minutes, she head out, and changed into a comfy night gown. Rose was kind enough to change her wardrobe, got beautiful outfits and varieties of night wears.

Even though they were too exposing, Laylah didn't care because she was sure Liam won't touch her since he doesn't like her.

After getting changed, she took the stairs and head down. Upon arriving in the living room, she didn't find him. Laylah looked around, but didn't see him until she heard his voice coming from a room close to the balcony.

She walked to the room, knocked on it and push open to find Liam on a call. Laylah went ahead to lean by the door, until he was done.

"You should shower, I picked out a night wear, it's on the bed. Should I make you something to drink? Or eat? You barely ate anything."

"Ms Laylah." Liam called, as calm as he could. It was past 12 am midnight.

"We are married, don't you think we should stop with the Ms? I'm your wife. What happened to sweet names?" She cautioned, obviously playing her role as his wife.

"I don't care about that, I'm going to ask you a question, do me the favor to answer that."

Laylah knew this wouldn't end well, she closed the door behind, stride towards him, and halted. Even though she was exhausted from the wedding, she still needs to face him. .

"What do you have in mind that has made you not to like me? Do I look like some fraud to you? When is it a crime to love you?" Laylah was good at acting, she sounded so determined.

"You know what? You are privileged to be here because of my mother. Who are you working for? Why did you take money from my mother?"

"And who said I took money from mother? I'm not working for anyone. I married you because I love you. Don't you get it? What do you take me for? A gold digger?" Laylah gulped, with a sudden cough to cover up her lies.

Liam is handsome, but she doesn't feel anything for him. It's purely business, and nothing more than that.

"That just proves you lied, you collected a billion dollars from my mother."

"You must know I work in a coffee shop and stayed in a studio apartment, I have never seen such amount of money. So, please drop the accusations, and let's have peace. This is our first night together."

'There's no way Martins is related to her when Jerry said she had no family member' He thought.

"If I find out you took money from my mother just to marry me, believe me, I won't hesitate to lock you up."

"Go upstairs and freshen up, I will get you something to drink." She responded, ignoring what he just said. Standing in front of him while telling lies is a threat to her, and had to leave his presence.

Liam ruffled his hair frustrated, his never seen a lady as dominating as Laylah. He picked up his phone from where he had dropped it, and march upstairs to get change.

The next day came faster, Laylah made breakfast for them. She called Liam to come have breakfast, but he didn't respond, so instead of coercing him, she ignored and had breakfast alone.

As soon as she got changed, Laylah returned downstairs, stride to the dinning to still find his food there, without him on the seat.

She sighs, coerced a smile on her face, and turn to his work space. This wasn't going to be easy, she knew before agreeing to marry him for money.

"I made you breakfast, you should eat before it gets cold." She pleaded. "You know we have to go visit your uncle as requested to see us."

"You can go alone, I won't be able to make it. I have work to finish, Jerry will drive you there."

Without another word from her, she went back inside to pick her bag, and headed to the parking lot.

"Good morning, Mrs. Laylah, I will drive you to the family house." She looked at him standing next to one of Liam's car.

"Can't we go with my car? You have the keys with you." She insisted, gesturing to where hers was parked.

"We can, but I will advise we go with the boss's car until I am sure your car doesn't have any problem, you can't drive it."

Laylah wanted to go with her car, but since he insisted, she thought it was an order from the Mayor or her husband. Without pushing further, she smiled and hopped into the car.

Thirty minutes later, they arrived at the family mansion to find the place a bit crowded.

"Is something going on here?" Laylah looked around the precinct, watching as people move around.

"No! This is how it is mostly on weekends. The Mayor tend to guest who come to see him regarding work or business. He is the Mayor, he has to serve the country, do his job efficiently if he wants to be reelected." Jerry responded, as he turned off the car engine.

He stepped down, and opened the car door for her. She mumbled a thank you and followed him into the house.

They walk into the living room to find Rose and Lydia.

"Mother." She called out, and hurry to them, smile evident on her face.

"Sweetheart, I have missed you. How was your night with Liam?" Rose asked, and made space for her to sit in between them.

"Common Mother do not ask, it's embarrassing." She cast her head down, holding back her laughter.

"Rose you must really like Laylah. I have been watching you both right from when we flew back, you seem pretty close." Lydia likes Laylah too, but her relationship with Rose seems pretty stronger.

"Laylah is a sweet girl, she's like the daughter I never had." Rose patted her hand's, making her blush from embarrassment.

"To be honest, I have come to like her." Lydia responded, and continued as she looks behind her to see if Liam stayed back. "But where's your husband?" She added.

"He is busy, I don't think he can make it to the dinner."

"But he is supposed to be here, why would he stay back because of work?" Rose expression turned pale, she was sure he did misbehave.

"I will give him a call, don't worry." Rose assured her.

"Alright, I will go Inform my husband you are around." Lydia excuse herself, and turned on her heels.

Rose drew Laylah closer as soon as she walked out.

"How was your night with him? I hope you didn't get into a fight?"

"I promise to do my duties as a wife, there's no way I will fight with him."

"I'm sorry, okay? He will open up to you. He's a sweet guy."

"Mother may I ask you a question?"

"Yes! Go ahead."

"What happened? The rumor about the lady, how true is it? I deserve to know as his wife." Rose held her hands, and walk her out of the living room.

"Your husband has an elder brother who had a mental illness, we are not sure of his whereabouts because his been missing for a year plus." She narrates, holding lightly to her hand's.
