Chapter 14
Vanessa's POV
*Plan accomplished*
I couldn't sleep, the more I tried closing my eyes ,the more I found them wide open. I only could recall my encounter with my supposed ex husband, and how I was betrayed by him and his family,I couldn't forget that incident.
I had to clear my head, so I sat up in bed. The idea that had just popped into my head was crazy, but it just might work if I try it out. I would pretend to accept Ryder's escort , but instead of going to the border, with this plan no rogue nor a pack member will want to hurt me. By so leading him on a wild goose chase, losing him in the woods. By the time he realized what was happening, I would be long gone and he will have himself to secure
A sly smile spread across my face as I thought about the look on Ryder's face when he realized he'd been outsmarted. I felt a surge of confidence and determination. I was going to take control of my own destiny, no matter what dangers lay ahead.
But as I lay back down, trying to get some rest before the big day, my mind began to wander. What if Ryder wasn't as easy to shake as I thought? What if Alpha Morgan had given him specific instructions to keep an eye on me? What if...?
I pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on my plan. I would be careful, stay one step ahead of Ryder, and make sure I had a safe place to hide if things went wrong.
As I drifted off to sleep, I felt a sense of hope that I hadn't felt in a long time. Tomorrow, I would take the first step towards freedom, towards a life where I didn't have to constantly look over my shoulder.
The next morning, I woke up early, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. I quickly got dressed and made my way to the kitchen, where Ryder was waiting for me.
"Good morning," he said, his eyes scanning me from head to toe. "Are you ready to leave?"
I nodded, trying to look confident. "Yeah, I'm ready."
Ryder handed me a small backpack with some food, water, and other supplies. "Alpha Morgan wants to make sure you're safe," he explained.
I took the backpack, feeling a pang of guilt. I was going to betray Alpha Morgan's trust, but I knew it was necessary.
We set off, walking through the forest in silence. Ryder seemed to sense that I wasn't in the mood for talking, and he respected my wishes.
As we walked, I kept a close eye on our surroundings, looking for any opportunity to make my escape. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I was determined to succeed.
After a few hours of walking, we came to a small clearing. Ryder stopped, looking around cautiously.
"What's wrong?" I asked, trying to sound innocent.
Ryder turned to me, his eyes narrowing. "I think we're being watched," he said quietly.
My heart skipped a beat. Was someone following us? I looked around, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
Suddenly, Ryder's head snapped up, his ears perked. "Do you hear that?" he whispered.
I listened, and after a moment, I heard it too - the sound of footsteps, light and cautious, but getting closer.
Ryder's eyes locked onto mine, and I knew he was thinking the same thing I was - we had to get out of there, fast.
But I had other plans.
Without hesitation, I grabbed Ryder's arm and pulled him in the opposite direction of the footsteps. "This way," I whispered urgently.
Ryder didn't question me, and we took off, running through the forest as fast as we could. I could hear the footsteps behind us, getting closer and closer.
But I didn't look back. I kept my eyes fixed on the path ahead, my heart pounding in my chest.
We ran for what felt like hours, the footsteps finally fading into the distance. Ryder and I slowed to a stop, panting and looking around cautiously.
But we were alone.
I turned to Ryder, trying to look relieved. "Thanks for protecting me," I said, trying to sound sincere.
Ryder's eyes narrowed, and I knew he wasn't buying it. "What just happened?" he asked, his voice low and even.
I shrugged, trying to look nonchalant. "I don't know. Maybe it was just a stray wolf."
Ryder's eyes locked onto mine, and I knew he didn't believe me. But he didn't push the issue.
Instead, he nodded and started walking again. "We should keep moving," he said.
I followed him, my heart still racing from our close call. But I knew I had to keep going, no matter what.
As we walked, I kept a close eye on Ryder, waiting for the perfect moment to make my escape.
And then, it happened.
Ryder stopped to get a drink from a nearby stream, and I saw my chance. I took off, running as fast as I could through the forest, I was scared of one thing initially and that was him scenting me but I recalled I was scentless.
I could hear Ryder shouting behind me, as he kept calling I should come back, but I didn't look back. I kept my eyes fixed on the path ahead, my heart pounding in my chest. Not until I suddenly heard sounds coming from the direction I was meant to work through.
What could that be? I stopped taking some step backwards and then turn to see if Ryder was still there but it he wasn't there, I thought he might have try to over shadow me by creating those sounds.
Making way to take another direction,I felt a rogue hit my face with it fist, groaning.
I saw blood drip down my face, I wanted to run out but it was late already I had been circled by the rogues,I felt it was the end of mine.
The plan I had for myself went wrong indeed and now no one can save me from this.
Before raising my head up another has attacked me, I just don't know what fell into my body and my eyes color began to change, my fists growing long and my body suddenly changed glowing like a moon light and I felt myself groaning thunderstorm. The rogues quickly ran away into the bush, Immediately I felt my body coming back to norm,my nails back and my eyes okay.
But I was weak and my eyes were closing as I lay down there.
