Naval Base, Marine 16th Branch, East Blue.
Inside the office, Captain Nezumi's eyes gleamed as he stared at the small box of treasure on the desk, his drool already soaking the documents.
He pushed the wet documents aside and hugged the treasure-filled box tightly to his chest, carefully counting the gold and jewels inside, muttering,
"Pirates are so generous! I wouldn't be able to save this much even if I worked for the Marines for years!"
"Does it look good?"
A voice suddenly appeared in the office, startling Captain Nezumi, who trembled and dropped the treasure box to the floor, scattering its contents everywhere.
Chiga stood at the office doorway with his arms crossed, behind him a group of Marine soldiers holding guns, though their faces looked rather pale, and their legs were trembling uncontrollably.
Just moments ago, Chiga had descended from the sky. The surrounding Marine soldiers immediately surrounded him, but Chiga didn't even move, merely releasing a faint burst of Conqueror's Haki. The Marine soldiers instantly rolled their eyes and collapsed to the ground, still unconscious.
The remaining Marine soldiers dared not advance. They knew they were no match for the person in front of them, but their military duty compelled them to follow Chiga all the way to Captain Nezumi's office.
At this moment, Captain Nezumi was on the floor, frantically trying to gather the scattered treasure with his hands. But the more he rushed, the more disobedient the treasures became. Every time he tried to scoop them with his arm, a few defiant gold pieces would slip through the gaps.
The Marine soldiers behind Chiga looked at their superior, who was sprawled on the ground looking utterly pathetic, and lowered their heads in shame. To be honest, they all knew more or less about Captain Nezumi's conduct, and every one of them looked down on him from the bottom of their hearts. But there was nothing they could do; a higher rank crushes those below, and he was the highest-ranking officer here.
Seeing that using his arms was inefficient, Captain Nezumi began picking up the gold pieces on the ground one by one. As he picked, his hand touched a shoe. He looked up in a daze, meeting Chiga's lowered Rinnegan eyes.
As if he had seen something terrifying, Captain Nezumi plopped down on the ground, staring blankly at Chiga, his voice trembling as he asked,
"You… who are you?"
Chiga looked at this Marine disgrace with the eyes of someone looking at a dead man and said indifferently,
"Marine Headquarters Captain, Uchiha Chiga."
"You're a Marine?"
Hearing that the newcomer was also a Marine, Captain Nezumi immediately breathed a sigh of relief. In his opinion, since the person was a Marine, there wouldn't be much of a problem. After all, they were colleagues, weren't they?
Thinking this, Captain Nezumi calmly stood up, casually patted his backside, then pressed his palms together in front of his chest and greeted Chiga with a fawning smile, asking,
"So it's Captain Chiga from Headquarters. May I ask what instructions you have for me?"
It must be noted here that even if Marine Headquarters officers and branch officers held the same rank, their status and strength were on completely different levels. And Chiga was so young; if Captain Nezumi didn't know Chiga's importance, then he had wasted all these years.
He knew that he had climbed to the position of Marine branch captain by being good at reading people's expressions and flattering them. Otherwise, with his lacking strength, he would only be able to slowly accumulate seniority and eventually retire as a lieutenant.
Moreover, in his opinion, no matter how high Chiga's status was, he was just a young man. A few flattering words from himself could make him so overjoyed that he might even advance his own career.
However, what responded to him was Chiga's big slap.
Slap! A loud slap echoed in the small office. Captain Nezumi spun around ten times before finally stopping. When he finally stopped, Captain Nezumi covered his face, which had swollen to the size of a soccer ball, and looked at Chiga in disbelief.
"What are you doing? I'm a Marine!"
Hearing that this guy still dared to call himself a Marine, Chiga was directly amused by this shameless behavior.
Chiga took out a jagged nose from his Door-Door Space, with undried blood still clinging to it.
Chiga dangled the nose in front of Captain Nezumi.
Seeing the object in Chiga's hand, Captain Nezumi's pupils immediately contracted. He recognized it as Arlong's nose. At this point, even someone as shrewd as he understood Chiga's purpose in coming to find him, and he fell silent for a moment.
Chiga held Arlong's nose in his hand, staring at him and saying,
"Marine? How does that word coming out of your mouth disgust me so much? I ask you, when you accepted bribes from pirates, did you remember that you were a Marine?"
At these words, the Marines behind Chiga all widened their eyes. They knew Captain Nezumi had a bad reputation, but reputation was one thing. Accepting bribes, and from pirates no less, was a matter of principle. The impact of such a thing on their sense of justice was unimaginable.
A Marine soldier asked with a trembling voice,
"Captain Nezumi, is what Captain Chiga said true?"
Even now, this upright Marine soldier still held a sliver of hope, and even left Captain Nezumi some face when speaking, at least he didn't remove the "Captain."
Captain Nezumi couldn't care less about that now. He shouted at the Marine soldiers with a false bravado,
"Of course it's not true! I'm the highest-ranking officer here! I now suspect this person isn't a Marine at all! Quickly, arrest this guy!"
Hearing their superior's order, the soldiers were in a dilemma. In fact, their hearts were more inclined towards Chiga at this moment, simply because Captain Nezumi's usual conduct was too poor.
Chiga ignored the soldiers behind him. He no longer wanted to waste time with this Marine disgrace.
With a flash, Chiga appeared before Captain Nezumi, grabbing him by the neck and lifting him up like a small chicken.
Captain Nezumi was just over 1.8 meters tall, already appearing somewhat small in front of the over two-meter-tall Chiga. Now, being held in mid-air by Chiga, his legs could only kick wildly, and he continuously yelled,
"Let go of me! Let go of me! Even if you're from Headquarters, you have no right to deal with me!"
"Oh? I have no right?"
Chiga looked at the disgrace in his hand with disdain. With his other hand, he took out a Den Den Mushi from his pocket and dialed it in front of everyone present.
Gulu gulu
In a few seconds, the Den Den Mushi was answered. The voice that came from the Den Den Mushi's mouth stunned everyone present except Chiga.
"This is Fleet Admiral Sengoku. It must be Chiga, right? Your incident with Rayleigh caused quite a stir. What do you need me for at this time?"
