Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Scouring the Dorm

The trio came out of their dorm room, cautiously standing in the hallway. Now that they weren't fighting for their lives, they could hear the shouts and screams for help, and at some point, roars.

The door of the building beside them was destroyed, and there was nobody in the room. It was presumably the room that which the three previous nulls came out.

Zayden turned to look at his two companions, and a smirk couldn't help but form on his face. Tyrel had an expectant expression, obviously waiting for the skill that he was going to get. Darian had an indifferent expression on his face.

Normally at this point, Zayden was supposed to give a pep talk on how the world had changed and shit, but it seemed like neither of them needed that.

"Listen to what I have to say and follow them to the letter," Zayden said. "First of all, don't turn your back on a null until you are a hundred percent sure that the null is dead. And that happens when the null turns into light particles. When fighting a null, always go for its head and most importantly, do not leave any orbs behind."

"Enough with the pep talk, when are we going to start fighting monsters?" Tyrel said eagerly, "I haven't gotten my skill yet," He added.

Zayden could only roll his eyes as he continued speaking. "Our goal right now, according to the system, is to escape the dorm building, but I have a different plan," Zayden said

"What plan?" Tyrel asked in excitement

"I want to fight the boss monster," Zayden said. "What do you mean by that?" Tyrel asked.

"Well, you see, I would like to treat this situation as a game," Zayden said, "and at the moment we are in a dungeon that has five floors."

All of this was bullshit, but there was no way that Zayden could tell them that he knew what would happen in the future so he hoped that it would work. And Tyrel was eating it up.

"Of course, that has to be it," Tyrel said. "At the moment, we are on the second floor, and the boss monster is on the fifth floor, maybe the roof. But if we want to reach him, we have though get stronger by defeating his minions."

"Yes," Zayden said. Even though the words he used were incorrect, they explained what he wanted to say. "But before we can do all that, we have to get you a skill and some real weapons, maybe food if needed."

The smile on their face of Tyrel widened. "So what are we still waiting here for?"

Just like Zayden said previously, they could hear the sluggish footsteps of the nulls becoming louder and louder, which meant that they were not far away. "A small group of nulls should have three to four nulls at most. So we'll pick out a small group of nulls to increase our level and clear the floor if possible. But within a week, we should be out of the dorm building."

"Sure," Tyrel said while Darian nodded his head slightly.

Zayden dug into his memories and remembered that after multiple life and death battles for three days, he managed to leave the male dorm with sixteen other males, including the students' council vice president.

After leaving the dorm, they struggled for their lives a few more times and managed to get to the gym hall where the other survivors were waiting. They finally decided to leave the college, but figured out that they couldn't until they defeated the boss monsters.

At that time, they had to head back into the null-infested college, losing many lives on the way to defeat the bosses who were the strongest nulls in each dorm. Mind you, the college had six dorms. Three male dorms and three female dorms.

This resulted in the loss of a lot more lives, and out of the thousands of students in the university, only twenty-three managed to survive, and by the love of lady luck upon his life, Zayden was one of them.

"With these memories, I could at least make some things better," he muttered.

In the distance, Zayden could make out the forms of four sluggishly walking nulls, about three rooms away from them. "I'll take on two of them since I'm already level two, Tyrel and Darian, you guys take one each."

Without waiting for a reply, Zayden charged at the four nulls, with Tyrel and Darian following closely behind.

All the nulls were level one withered and wouldn't be very hard to deal with. After all, Zayden had a rare item with a skill, along with Daria, who also had a skill. Not adding the fact that Zayden was already level two.

With the silver-bladed sword wielded in front of him, Zayden was already in front of one of the nulls. He quickly swung out his sword like a veteran, targeting the head of the null while ducking to dodge the hand of one of the other nulls.

His sword landed on the neck of the null, going through it like a hot knife through butter, and within seconds, the null was decapitated very swiftly, spraying darkish-red blood everywhere like a fountain.

The null turned into particles of white light absorbed into the body of Zayden without leaving any orb.

Zayden didn't care for all that, as soon as the null was turned into particles of white light, his gaze fell on the second null.

At this point, Tyrel and Darian had already caught up.

[Bullish Charge Activated]

[-25 Energy]

Some kind of dark red, faint aura covered the body of Darian, taking the shape of what looked like an angry bull. He placed his wooden shield in front of him, and horns of aura formed on the shield.

He charged into the body of the null nearest to him, sending it flying more than five meters away, turning into white particles even before it landed on the ground. The white particles, along with an orange orb, floated toward Darian. The orange orb landed on the floor near him while the white particles floated into his body.

Seeing what both of his roommates could do, a look of longing appeared on the face of Tyrel. With the anger in his eyes, he started slamming his metal pole into the head of the null, directly turning its head into mush before it turned into golden light particles, leaving behind a red orb.

[+50 EXP]

Ignoring that message, Tyrel picked up the orb before smashing it into the ground. A dim red glow appeared as the shell disappeared, leaving behind a brown book with a slight golden glow around it.

Tyrel quickly picked it up and opened it. In weird runic letters were the words 'Lightning Charge'

As soon as he read the words, the book turned into golden particles and floated into his head.

[Name: Lightning Charge]

[Tier: ???]

[Level: 1]

[Description: Takes up energy to charge any weapon with lightning, increasing its attack damage by 5%]

"Finally," Tyrel said when Darian the the orange orb in his direction. "Thanks," Tyrel said as he also smashed open the orb, revealing what looked like a pistol. The pistol looked normal, if not for the glowing runes on it.

Tyrel picked it up and examined the stats.

[Name: Energy Blaster]

[Tier: Common]

[Durability: 250/250]

[Description: Takes up energy to shoot out a bullet made out of pure energy. The bullets vary depending on the energy fed into the blaster.

"This goes well with my blaster," Tyrel said. "How convenient." "If you're done with that, come and kill this null. We need everyone to level up as quickly as possible."

Tyrel didn't decline, and this was a perfect opportunity to test out his weapon and skill.

[Lightning Charge Activated]

[Energy Bullet Activated]

[-5 Energy]

With the pistol pointed at the null, snakes of golden lightning surrounded the pistol, and with a loud bang, a golden bullet flew out of the nuzzle, blowing the null into bits before it transformed into white particles. A larger portion flew into the body of Tyrel, while the rest flew into the body of Zayden.

"Now, with everyone at level two, this will be a whole lot easier," Zayden said
