To their surprise , after another the meeting considering Caelum's health, the doctor walked into his room and was shocked to find Caelum staring at the ceiling but he didn't move. He was awake.
The first thing Caelum noticed was the silence.
Not the peaceful kind — but the kind that settles in after a storm, after something unspeakable has happened and the world doesn't know how to continue.
The sheets smelled like him. The pillows, too.
But Kieran wasn't there.
His body ached in places he didn't have names for. His head throbbed. When he moved, he felt bandages. Tight, clean, precise. "Hi doc...." He tried to sit up, but a soft voice stopped him.
"Easy," said Charles as he walked into the room. "You're safe now."
Safe.
Caelum wasn't sure he even knew what that word meant anymore.
"Where's Kieran?" He asked innocently.
"Has he been eating? Is he fine? He mentioned a headache before we went to bed...." He looked around. He's not in his home.
"Charles, where am I and what did you do to Kieran?" He asked while he struggled to sit up. The doctor dropped the medication and walked out to give them privacy.
"I killed him" Charles blankly said.
"You were unconscious for three months. He caused this. I had to protect the boss. I had to kill him."
Caelum's eyes glowed with anger. His fists clenched as he attacked Charles.
His punches still injured Charles even in his condition. Caelum began to bleed from the wounds on his wrists.
"Kieran can't be dead" he muttered after every punch and Charles just sat there receiving the beating.
Not because he couldn't, but because Caelum was still his boss and even in this broken state, he'd never hurt him.
A nurse heard noise and walked in. She ran to call the doctor in fear.
Caelum didn't care. When he was done, he silently stood up and walked out of the room.
"I didn't kill him," Charles whispered under his breath as he watched Caelum storm out. "But maybe now you'll stop loving him blindly.
"Boss" he yelled. Caelum stopped.
"You're willing to punch me severally because of him but he couldn't even come visit you once. I have been with you day and night for three months, boss"
Caelum turned back to look at Charles. He was cleaning blood off his mouth.
"You're telling me Kieran didn't step foot here for 3 months and he didn't try reaching me? It's hard to believe" and he continued to walk out.
Charles was blabbing nonsense. He probably put a restraining order on Kieran. I know he'd have tried countless times to see me.
He tried calling Kieran but it wasn't going through. I hope he's okay, he kept thinking.
