Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: One-Shotting Zombies, Our Confident Class President

The Second Forbidden Zone sprawled before him a desolate city of crumbling skyscrapers and silent streets. Vincent Fox paused, taking in the grim landscape.

In Resident Evil 1 and 2, the T-Virus was confined to Raccoon City. Only in the third installment did Umbrella Corporation unleash it worldwide. This level of ruin suggests a timeline at least after Resident Evil 3.

With that realization, Vincent sprang into action. He slipped into a nearby convenience store and searched the shelves until he found what he needed: a city map.

Studying it, he located Raccoon City. Of course, this city had been destroyed by a nuclear strike in the official storyline but Vincent knew better. Umbrella's true headquarters lay deep beneath the hive's lowest level, untouched by surface explosions. That's where Dr. Alexander Isaacs lurked and where the T-Virus vaccine awaited.

Knowing the plot gave Vincent a decisive edge. While Alice traipsed aboveground for years before stumbling on the hive's secret, Vincent could cut straight to the source.

He sketched a plan: race to Raccoon City, infiltrate the hive, eliminate Umbrella's leadership, release the vaccine, and complete Mission Three cleanly and swiftly. Bold, but potentially brilliant after all, faster completion meant higher ratings.

Next, he needed transport. Raccoon City lay over a hundred kilometers away on foot, the journey would take days. A working vehicle meant he could arrive in hours.

Vincent tried several abandoned cars, but their batteries had long since died. As he abandoned the search, his tinkering drew the attention of several shambling figures zombies approaching him.

Their rotting flesh dripped; low, guttural moans poured from cracked lips. Yet Vincent felt no fear. The Saitama Physique had not only strengthened his body but also steadied his spirit.

A quick glance revealed no nearby allies so Vincent picked up a discarded baseball bat. No need to soil his gloves.

As the zombies closed in, Vincent raised the bat only to be interrupted by a sudden twang.

An arrow whistled from a nearby rooftop, striking the lead zombie squarely in the forehead. The creature collapsed in a heap.

Vincent looked up to see their class president, Autumn Summer kneeling on the roof's edge with a modern composite bow. She nocked another arrow, drew back, and loosed it with deadly speed.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Each shot found its mark three more zombies fell in rapid succession. Not a single miss.

Autumn Summer sprang down and landed beside Vincent, bow at her side. "Vincent Fox, did you really just stand there? That was dangerous!"

Her tone was stern, but Vincent could see concern in her eyes.

"You don't seem prepared," she continued. "From now on, stick close to me and cover my six."

Vincent's brow furrowed in surprise. Their unassuming class president had revealed herself to be an expert archer someone who'd trained for years to master that level of precision.

He nodded. "Understood."

Together, they strode toward the city's outskirts, Autumn leading the way and Vincent following with newfound determination.
