Chapter 4 - First Time on Stage

The stage was small…

But when I sang — silence became the loudest note."

---

Evening was falling.

The last light of the sun melted into the dust.

In a quiet little spot,

a raised platform stood where weary villagers sat.

Children clung to their mothers.

Elders closed their eyes —

as if they already knew…

something special was about to happen.

Toren stood with his flute.

Mira struck a chord on her harmonium.

Lio was trying to fix his drum again—

it slipped once,

and he laughed.

Everyone laughed.

Except me.

I was standing behind the stage.

Hands cold. Heart racing.

> "Noen,"

Mother whispered, "This isn't your moment.

It's theirs—

the ones who'll feel you."

I just nodded.

---

The flute began — a soft note,

like an old secret whispered through the halls of a forgotten palace.

Mira sang the opening line—

and just like that, a story had begun.

Then she looked at me—

a silent cue: "Go, Noen."

I stepped on stage.

People looked at me.

No one really expected

a thin, quiet boy to move their hearts.

I sat down.

Closed my eyes.

And held onto just one thought:

> "I'm not singing for myself.

I'm singing for everyone…

who has forgotten how to feel."

---

The song flowed out of me:

> "I am not a melody,

I am not a tune…

I'm just a voice

that listens to your pain."

> "I've gathered falling notes from your eyes…

held them gently in my hands.

So smile…

because this moment…

belongs to you."

---

As I sang…

a silence spread over the crowd.

No one clapped.

No one whispered.

Everyone… just listened.

And when I opened my eyes—

a small girl was hugging her mother, crying softly.

A man had covered his eyes with one hand.

And for the first time…

no one threw anything on stage.

> No coins. No gifts.

Just silence.

Mira leaned toward me and whispered:

> "They couldn't understand you…

But somehow, you became a part of them."

---

That night, Lio came to me and said:

> "Bhaiya… when you sang,

I felt like everyone was crying inside…

but smiling outside."

I didn't say a word.

I just looked up at the sky…

And quietly thought:

> "Maybe… tonight,

I was finally alive —

as music."

---

To be continued…
