Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Foundations of Power

Clark returned to the palace as the sky darkened. The sun dipped beneath the distant horizon, casting long shadows across his newly expanded territory. A cool breeze carried a slight chill, and for the first time since arriving in this world, Clark felt a very human sensation: hunger.

"Huh… so even gods still feel hunger," he muttered.

The palace doors opened with a soft creak as he stepped inside. The grand hall remained empty, silent except for the faint echo of his boots against the marble floor.

But something else occupied his mind.

He glanced at his followers — the Banished Crusaders. Though loyal, they were still human-like beings. They needed food, rest, and most importantly—shelter.

The realization struck him sharply.

If I plan to grow my believers into a real force… they can't just keep sleeping outside like nomads. I need to start building a proper settlement for them.

Opening the construction interface, his gaze locked onto one particular blueprint he had just acquired.

[Holy Sanctuary Blueprint: Special Grade]

Building Type: Residential Settlement (Compressed Development Path)

Capacity: 1,000 Believers

Faith Generation Bonus: +5%

Loyalty Bonus: +5%

Initial Settlement Grade: Small Town (Bypasses Village Phase)

Initial Defenses: Basic wooden walls, lookout towers, and watch posts pre-installed.

Construction Cost:

Wood: 10,000

Stone: 10,000

Divine Crystals: 10,000

A direct jump to a small town... this will save me months of development time.

Without hesitation, Clark confirmed the build order.

"Construct: Holy Sanctuary."

Resources drained from his storage instantly. Outside the palace walls, divine light began pouring down like rain, illuminating the surrounding plains.

Structures started rising from the ground in a beautiful, almost organic flow. Stone foundations emerged first, followed by wooden walls, towers, and compact rows of simple but sturdy houses. A central plaza formed, surrounded by wide cobblestone streets and lamp posts that lit up with faint ethereal glow.

Tall wooden palisades now encircled the settlement, with several guard towers stationed evenly along the perimeter. Watch fires flickered to life at each outpost.

[Holy Sanctuary Constructed: Active]

Settlement Status: Small Town

Defensive Rating: 5,000

Maximum Occupancy: 1,000 Believers

Clark observed the finished town through his palace window, feeling a strange satisfaction settle in his chest.

"Now they have proper homes. This will serve as the foundation for my growing divine kingdom."

Satisfied, Clark turned to Seraphiel. "Distribute the followers into their new homes."

Seraphiel nodded, her eyes flashing with a soft glow as she issued commands to the summoned crusaders.

The newly settled people quickly began moving into the houses, filling the town with life and activity.

Just as Clark was admiring the town's clean stone streets, tall defensive walls, central plaza, watchtowers, and orderly residential districts, a loud chime echoed throughout the world.

[WORLD ANNOUNCEMENT]

Congratulations to Verdant God for being the first to build a Small Town-class Holy Sanctuary!

Reward: Silver Chest x1, Global Reputation +10.

Congratulations to Verdant God....

The moment the announcement went out three times, Clark's global interface was instantly flooded. Notifications stacked up, but before anything else, the Silver Chest appeared in his inventory — a small ornate box radiating a faint divine light.

He didn't open it yet.

Curious, he switched to the Global Chat. As expected, it was already in a frenzy.

[Global Chat]

[IronFist]: "Wha—who is Verdant God? How did someone already build a town?!"

[NightHawk]: "Impossible! We only got 1000 resources. He must've found some loophole!"

[StarEmpress]: "Is that even legal? I'm still building my first house manually."

[BlackTiger]: "Verdant God? Whoever you are... you've made enemies now."

[AzurePriest]: "He must've drawn a super rare blueprint or had some insane starting luck."

[AshenWolf]: "Who cares how he did it. We should be worrying about how far ahead he's getting."

[DivineMerchant]: "Does anyone know if Verdant God is recruiting? I'll sell my soul."

Clark skimmed through the chaos, expression unreadable.

"Well… let them guess."

He closed the chat.

He opened his interface once more. Two more critical blueprints awaited him.

Construction Cost:

Divine Crystals: 50,000

Clark immediately selected the option.

"Construct: Temple."

Massive beams of divine light burst down from the heavens once more, forming towering spires behind his palace. Crystal windows caught the moonlight, while golden rings rotated slowly above the main dome, radiating a sense of sacred majesty.

[Unique Structure: Unnamed Temple Constructed]

The towering temple was majestic. Polished black marble, gold-etched divine scripts wrapping its tall pillars, and emerald-colored windows giving it an ethereal aura. It immediately dominated the town's skyline.

A configuration panel appeared before him.

He thought and named it.. Verdant God Temple

As the temple settled, its divine energy fused into the surrounding territory. The atmosphere itself grew richer, purer — an ideal cradle for his future expansion.

Clark approached the Verdant God's Blessing panel to test it.

Target: Wheat Field Growth Cycle (90 days standard)Divinity Consumed: 10Time Reduced: From 90 days → 18 days

His eyes narrowed in disbelief.

"A fivefold reduction… just by spending 10 Divinity points. If I push this harder... I can industrialize this domain at god speed."

For others who barely had their starting 100 Divinity, this function was almost useless. But for him — armed with an overflowing Divine Multiplier — this became a terrifying advantage.

Clark exhaled deeply as the temple shimmered behind him.

He refocused his attention on one of the most important parts of his divine foundation — his Recruitment Pool.

Since upgrading it to C- rank, his recruitment pool had expanded, allowing him to summon Five additional followers.

[RECRUITMENT POOL: BANISHED CRUSADERS — C RANK]

Current Pool Level: 1

Available Summons: 5

Without hesitation, Clark issued the command.

"Summon."

A gentle green light swirled at the summoning platform near the temple. One by one, the figures emerged — each clad in battered but well-maintained armor, carrying sturdy long swords and round iron shields marked by faded emblems of lost crusades.

All five of them kneeled in perfect formation before him, heads bowed in reverence.

"We greet the Verdant God."

Clark glanced through their automatically generated panels:

Clark couldn't help but nod quietly.

He turned to Seraphiel standing behind him.

"Take these five. Add them to your team ."

"Understood, my Lord," Seraphiel responded softly, her eyes briefly glowing beneath her helm as she led the new recruits away.

Clark exhaled slightly as he watched them depart.

After all that had transpired, he finally opened his updated territory interface.
