Chapter 45 - Target Acquired

Inside a luxurious suite near the top floors of Sky Arena—well past the 200th level—Uvogin lounged on a couch, casually downing a beer as he waited for Machi to finish a phone call.

When she finally pocketed her phone, Uvogin looked over and asked, "Another limb-repair gig?"

Machi shook her head. "No. That was the boss. He just gave us a new mission."

Crack!

The beer can in Uvogin's hand burst under the pressure of his grip. His eyes lit up with excitement. "The boss? You mean he's finally planning something big? A full brigade mission?"

He burst into a loud laugh and tossed the crushed can aside. "Hell yeah! The last one was amazing! Some of those kurta tribe guys really put up a fight. Man, when their eyes went red with rage after watching their comrades die... the Nen they unleashed—so damn satisfying."

Uvogin's grin widened, clearly reminiscing. "It's been a while, but I still remember how good that battle felt. I wish more fights were like that. These Sky Arena folks? Half of them don't even know what Nen is. Beating them up is boring."

After venting his frustration, he turned to Machi again. "So? What's the job this time? Anyone strong enough to be fun?"

Machi leaned back slightly, watching his excitement. "The Elders of Meteor City gave Chrollo a contract. We're to take out the Pengellet family."

She paused before continuing, "And conveniently, their boss—Vega Pengellet—is in the vicinity of Sky Arena. The boss wants us to eliminate him."

Uvogin scratched his head. "Vega Pengellet... why does that name sound familiar?"

"You've probably heard it around," Machi replied. "He's stirred up quite a bit of trouble here lately. He's already wanted. Also, the guy who challenged you a few days ago—Sandro? Vega's the one who killed him."

Smack!

Uvogin clapped his hands in sudden realization. "Right! That was the guy gunning for ten wins to challenge me for the floor master title!"

Machi pulled up her phone and showed him the bounty listing. "He's got a billion-jenny bounty on his head. And, apparently, he took out two of the Yin Beasts by himself."

Uvogin's eyes gleamed. "Now we're talking! Let's find this Vega guy and let me take him down myself!"

"Calm down," Machi said. "The boss wants all three of us on this—me, you, and omokage . He emphasized that Vega might have some kind of powerful Nen artifact, so we're to be cautious."

Uvogin snorted. "Tch. I could handle him alone, but fine, we'll do it the boss's way. Still, I call dibs on finishing the guy."

Hearing Face's name, Machi frowned. She had never trusted him.

"I don't like Face," she muttered. "There's something off about him. He's always probing into other members' business, like he's hiding an agenda."

Uvogin tilted his head, then nodded. "You've got good instincts. If something's shady, I'll keep an eye out. But if he ever crosses the line, we'll take care of it—brigade rules are clear on that."

Machi stood. "Come on, let's go get him. The boss already sent Vega's location."

"Alright, let's move!" Uvogin shot up, clearly eager for a fight.

They made their way down to omokage's room.

omokage wasn't on the same floor as Uvogin—he was mixed in with the 200th-floor fighters, stalking targets for his puppet work.

His Nen abilities revolved around three core techniques:

Soul Puppet – creating a doll that retains a portion of the original user's Nen.

Soul Summoning – seizing the eyes of a target, allowing near-complete replication of their Nen ability.

Puppet Catcher – fusing with a puppet to wield its abilities directly.

Because of this, omokage frequently roamed the 200th floor, looking for opponents with interesting powers—and usable eyes.

When they arrived at his door, Machi didn't bother knocking and simply pushed it open.

Inside, omokage was glued to a monitor, watching ongoing matches between the current crop of 200-level fighters.

"Something up, Machi?" omokage asked, flashing his usual unsettling smile.

She narrowed her eyes. If it weren't for brigade rules, she'd have ended him long ago.

"You look at me like that again," she warned coolly, "and I'll make sure you never see another doll again."

omokage chuckled. "Touchy, aren't we? So, what's the mission?"

Machi didn't waste words. "We're hunting Vega Pengellet. The boss wants him dead."

omokage raised an eyebrow in genuine interest. "That guy? I've heard of him. He's strong... might make a great puppet. Especially if I can take his eyes."

His smile widened, which only made Machi's disgust deepen. She didn't trust him one bit.

Still, he agreed.

Machi nodded, briefed him on the target's current location, and the three Phantom Troupe members left Sky Arena together—headed for Vega.
