The room froze in silence.
Janet's hands trembled as she looked between Dmitri and Luca. Her mind was spiraling. Everything she had endured—the betrayal, the abuse, the lies, the helplessness—all surged at once in a storm of anguish.
Dmitri smirked, taking a step toward her. "You don't have the guts to shoot—"
BANG!
The shot rang through the mansion like a thunderclap.
But it wasn't aimed at him.
It was aimed at herself.
The gun fell from her hand as Janet's body collapsed to the ground, her head tilting unnaturally to the side. Blood poured from the wound near her temple, staining the floor beneath her. The moment shattered.
Luca's eyes widened in disbelief, his soul leaving his body as he watched her fall.
"J-Janet…" he whispered, completely frozen.
Even Dmitri was stunned. "What have you done…?"
He stumbled forward and dropped beside her, cradling her bloodied head. "No, no, no… Janet, wake up!" he begged, shaking her limp body.
At that moment, the mansion's doors burst open. Dozens of police officers in black swarmed in with weapons drawn.
"There he is! Dmitri Ivanov—hands up!"
Dmitri looked around in horror, still holding Janet. "No, wait, I didn't—she did this herself—!"
But it was too late.
