Chapter 2 - Tenshi?

"You'll put your magic soul in the cover of this book," Mr. Kagga had said.

A soft, feminine voice echoed the memory.

"So I'll finally get my magic book…"

The scene shifts. Sixty students now stand in the heart of a vast lake. The water ripples beneath their feet—enchanted, solid, holding them like glass. Above, the night sky blazes with stars so close they feel alive, burning like ancient eyes watching from above.

Mr. Kagga, as tall and composed as ever, stands at the center.

"Everybody," he commands, his voice calm but weighty. "Say the word written on the paper you're holding—and kneel while raising your right hand."

Midoki glances at the slip of parchment in his hand. The word made him feel weird.

But he kneels.

Raises his right hand.

And says the word in a low, uncertain voice:

"I kneel… I'm all yours to take."

The stars above shimmer brighter.

Then—they fall.

One by one, tiny gleaming lights drift from the heavens, landing gently on the outstretched hands of the kneeling students. Each light condenses into a small, glowing stone: their magic soul.

Gasps of awe. Cries of joy.

Moi opens his palm and finds a swirling blue crystal, its core dancing like an ocean storm trapped inside.

Tenshi's glows white and soft, like clouds bottled into stone.

All eyes turn to Midoki.

The prince.

The king's son.

His hand is empty.

(Of course it is) He thinks to himself.

Silence falls.

Midoki's brows knit. Disappointment. Frustration. Confusion.

The whole lake holds its breath.

Then—

Laughter.

"You made a miracle, Midoki," Tenshi cackles.

Moi hums in agreement, chuckling beside him.

No one else dares laugh. Tension hangs like fog.

Midoki's voice cuts through it like a blade.

"Teacher. Why the fuck didn't I get one?"

Mr. Kagga tilts his head slightly beneath the white blindfold.

"I don't have a clue. This is the first time I've seen something like this."

Midoki's face shifts—still annoyed, but no shame, just the edge of his usual careless calm.

From the group, the same soft, feminine voice murmurs:

"WTF… The only student I was actually curious about didn't get his magic soul?"

---

The next day.

The same lake.

But now the sky is bright. Daylight spills across the water.

Midoki, Moi, and Tenshi sit near the lake's edge.

"It's only one day in a year," Moi says, frowning. "Why are we here? Nothing will happen."

Midoki's voice is low, focused.

"I don't know. But I'm sure something will."

Tenshi elbows Moi, smirking.

"He did it again. God knows what's about to happen."

Moi laughs.

They sit in silence for a moment.

Then—

CRASH.

Something falls from the sky, plummeting toward them.

They react instantly.

Tenshi's magic book flips open and hovers midair, winds swirling around him. He leaps up, using the gusts to control the fall of the crashing figure.

Moi's book glows, water forming in the air—ready to heal.

Midoki stares, eyes narrowed.

Time slows.

The falling figure crashes down, broken and bloody—but alive. Wings, torn and silver, twitch behind him.

"Moi, do your best!" Midoki shouts.

Moi rushes in, casting waves of blessed water across the figure's wounds.

The boy stirs.

Tenshi tilts his head. "Yo… is this normal?"

Midoki answers flatly. "I don't think so."

The boy opens his eyes—pure silver, glowing with emotion.

Then he lunges.

Straight at Moi.

Midoki moves faster, catching the boy by the neck mid-air.

Tenshi's blade rests against the boy's face.

Moi steps back, prepared.

"Who are you?! What do you want?! Where did you come from?!" Midoki demands.

The boy freezes, confused. His lips tremble like he's forgotten how to speak—not from fear, but from something deeper.

*A little disclaimer: Tenshi means Angel, and teki means enemy, and Mikata means ally or you can say friend.

He slowly points at himself.

"Tenshi."

Then at Midoki.

"Mikata."

Then at Moi.

"Teki."

Tenshi blinks. "I'm Tenshi, dumbass."

Midoki frowns, his voice softening. He points to each of them.

"Mikata. Mikata. Mikata."

The boy's eyes widen. A small smile forms—but his body still shakes when he looks at Moi.

Midoki extends his right hand.

"I'm Midoki. And you?"

The boy hesitates.

"Tenshi."

They shake hands.

And then—

His body turns to stone.

A shimmering rock now rests in Midoki's palm, glowing with the same dual color as his eyes—green and gold.

Midoki's eyes burn with understanding.

He places the stone onto the cover of his book.

It fuses instantly.

The book glows, then flips open—spells forming on the pages.

Midoki smiles.

A grin of quiet triumph.

"I got my magic soul."

Tenshi's jaw drops.

"WTF?!"
