"Sir?" Oakley asked as she opened the door to her boss' office and walked in.
Her shift had finally ended and she needed to ask about her salary before she left. Maybe he could even lend her some money to add to it.
"I need to ask you something?" Oakley said, her eyes lowered to the ground.
"Okay. Go ahead."
"I need my salary as soon as possible... It's an emergency!" Oakley said, looking up from the ground with a pleading look in a her eyes.
"You will be receiving your salary along with the others next week. Why the hurry?"
"You don't understand, Sir. I'm in debt right now, and if I don't repay the money by the end of this week... I'll die." She said dreadfully, hoping he would understand.
He was quiet for a while, with a thoughtful look on his face. She stood there quietly, hoping he would grant her request.
"How much are you owing?"
"Five thousand." She whispered meekly, watching as her boss' eyes widened at the amount. It was a whole lot of money anyway.
"Why would you borrow so much money in the first place?" He asked in shock.
Oakley kept quiet. She had no answer for that question anyway as the person who had actually borrowed the money refused to explain things to her.
Sighing, her boss said, "How about I lend you two thousand plus your salary. Would that be enough to satiate them for a little while longer?"
"Sir... That's so kind of you, but I can't accept it." Oakley responded, her eyes widened. "Just the salary would be enough." Besides, it wasn't really a good idea to fall into more debt.
"If you're worried about paying back the money, then you don't have to. You can take your time." He smiled at her.
She was his most hard working employee, and hearing that she was in this much trouble...? He just had to help.
"Thank you so much, Sir " Oakley's eyes were filled with unshed tears of gratitude.

... Or at least that was how she had hoped things would go. P.S, the exact opposite happened instead.
She didn't even ask for a salary increment, and still he was shouting at her like she had asked him to sell off the coffee shop and give her the money made from the sale.
"I never knew you were like this." He said, acting like a disappointed father.
"But Sir, it's an emergency..." She whispered, her eyes lowered.
"I don't care!" He fumed at her. "You will get your money the same time as others. Now get out of my office."
"But–"
"NOW!"
Nodding, she quickly left the office, tears streaming down her face. This was terrible! What was she going to do now.
She quietly picked up her purse from one of the table, and left the coffee shop, ignoring the curious gaze of one of her co-workers who was busy cleaning the tables.
Her only hope had crumbled to the ground, now she was left panicking.
