"Where am I?"
A stale voice erupted. His eyes was opened to a world beyond his imagination.
He stood thoroughly naked. Revealing his skinny chest, his ribs bones were on display.
Staring at the fluffy clouds engulfing the air. His body shivered.
Staring down at his arms….he was flabbergasted by the sight of his quivering hands.
"What's this? What's happening?"
"And what's beyond this gate?"
He questioned. His eyes fixed on the collosal crimsoned gate standing before him.
Sealed beyond his reach….
The runes imbedded on the gate flickered. He was submerged in the inundating light.
His eyes blurred afterwards and all he could see next was absolute darkness.
~~~
Beep! Beep!
"Arghhh"
Savitar let's put a groan. He slowly opened his eyes, his eyes blurred for a few seconds….Savitar was woken up on a bed.
Savitar was stunned when he saw himself laid on an hospital bed, he glared at himself….still perplexed.
"Was that a dream?" He asked himself. Still dumbfounded about what he saw. The enormous metallic gate and the flickering light.
He tilted his gaze….he felt sharp headache causing him to groan.
"You're still recovering from the surgery boy….don't move too much" a voice commaned.
"Huh?" Savitar exclaimed.
His attention drifted towards the direction of the voice. Before him stood a black curly haired gentleman, dressed in black leather jacket.
The flag of the Empire was imbued on his jacket.
His hands covered with black leathered gloves, he held a tablet on his hand, glaring at Savitar laid before him.
"Who are you?" Savitar asked.
"I'm Inquisitor Jay Garett. Member of the Empire Player's Association and I believe your name is Savitar right?"
The entity questioned.
Savitar's eyes broadened.
"Inquisitor? Inquisitor? Inquisitor?"
Savitar jolted out of the hospital bed, he collapsed on the ground. Groaning out loud…
His heart raced fervently.
While he stayed in the Slave Camp he was thrown into. He was told stories about the Empire.
Amongst the Empire's top executives, the inquisitors were the most vile officers. They were different.
Unlike the Knights in noir whose signature are their battle armors and the enhanced super soldier serum they were fed with.
Inquisitors are full blooded Players, infamous for hunting down Nightmares emerging from the reoccurring dungeon breaks.
Even the lowest ranked Inquisitor can solo two hordes of Nightmares within seconds. They are the real deals.
The inquisitor's eyes squinted.
"Child….what's wrong with you?" He questioned. Savitar's heart skipped a beat.
He shivered, fearing that he may be ripped into pieces.
"What's an inquisitor doing in here? I don't think I've done something that would incur the wrath of the Inquisitors "
Savitar voiced out.
"Hmph...quite the scared little cat are you? Amongst the two thousand Slaves that were tested on"
"Out of the five hundred Slaves who awakened from the third batch….you were the only one whose body awakened and yet rejected the Cariburn Chip"
"Because of that….the scientists had to restructure the Cariburn Chip in other to adapt to your body"
"I was sent yet to monitor you until you were awoken from your slumber"
The Inquisitor explained.
"Wait? Did you just say I awokened?" Savitar asked.
"Yes. The fact that you're still breathing is a sign that you are alive, if your body had failed to awaken"
"You would have been disposed into the gas chamber already "
Inquisitor Jay answered.
"Can you get up from the ground. At this stage the Cariburn Chip is still in its fragile state" the Inquisitor demanded.
Savitar obeyed….he rose up from the ground, standing before the Inquisitor.
He's almost the same height with the Inquisitor who stands at six foot and three inches tall.
Inquisitor Jay Garett let's out a defeating sigh.
"Now that you're awake, I'll report it to the headquarters but you will have to go through with the verification " Inquisitor Jay explained.
"Verification?" Savitar asked.
"Yes. Your fellow Slaves are being transported to the Central Zone to have their abilities verified, in there you will be ranked"
"Graded according to your Starlight Energy's level and your Skill"
"Once registered you will be elevated from your position as Slaves to rank 1 commoner under the Player's agency"
"But if your Skill is high…..you will be given a better position "
Inquisitor Jay explained.
" Inquisitor sir….if I may ask. Amongst the two thousand Slaves that were brought to the sacred city"
"How many awakened?" Savitar asked.
"Only one thousand, four hundred and forty Slaves awakened. The rest were tossed into the gas chamber"
"Their corpses were fed to the bloodhounds "
"You're lucky you met no such fate. Child"
"I'll be taking you to the Central Zone myself since the rest of your fellow Slaves were transported three days ago"
Inquisitor Jay said with a sigh.
"Three days ago? How long have been in unconscious?" Savitar asked.
"Five days…..you have being in the state of coma for five days. Three days ago all the awakened Slaves were transported to the Central Zone"
"Today is when the examination will be taking place" Inquisitor Jay explained.
"Wow"
Savita exclaimed.
"Don't be too shocked. Can you feel the Cariburn Chip?" Inquisitor Jay asked.
"Ah yes"
"Although it comes and go, my neck down to my spine burns. It stings as well but it doesn't cause me too much pain"
"How can I activate it?" Savitar asked.
"The Cariburn Chip is an advanced active artificial intelligence. While it's a generator for channeling your Starlight Energy"
"It also acts like a support system. Once the system window appears properly before your eyes"
"Then the Cariburn Chip has been properly activated "
"Since your body rejected the traditional Cariburn Chip....We had to test your body using our latest design"
"The Explorer 2.0"
"Let's get going before it's too late"
Inquisitor Jay clamored. Savitar quietly followed the Inquisitor out of the room and after more tests were done.
Savitar was permitted to leave.
Savitar followed the Inquisitor outside of the building. He was stunned to see the Inquisitor's black sleek hover car.
The car's brake light flickered.
The backseat door was opened for him.
Savitar breathed in the fresh air, he quickly took his seat. He silently watched the Inquisitor drive out of the building while heading towards the highway.
After a few hours of driving due to the distance between the two operational centers.
Savitar was dropped at the entrance of the Central Zone's facility. And without uttering a single word.
The Inquisitor drove out.
Savitar couldn't help but sigh, he noticed a few eyes focused on him. He took a step forward, approaching the gate.
"Halt"
A voice instructed the second Savitar got an inch close to the gate.
It echoed….resounding effortlessly. Savitar couldn't traced down the source of the voice.
"Identify yourself " the voice commanded from the speaker, Savitar couldn't see anyone but he knew he was being watched.
"My name is Savitar and I'm a Slave who awakened. I'm here to participate in the examination "
