"I'm going to find you. Where are hiding cupcake, mummy is gonna find you. Rodney." Chloe called out to her son. They were playing hide and seek.
Theirs was a happy family, everyone would say. They were often called the perfect family.
Chloe and Rodney were playing, laughing and crawling all over the house looking for each other. She was just twenty -three and her son was four but already looking too grown for his age.
He stood at the doorway and watched them. He loved them so much. He would kill anyone who ever came near them. He smiled as he looked at Chloe who was on all fours and laughing her heart out trying to keep up with their son.He had always somewhat felt guilty for making her pregnant at nineteen but as he watched them that evening, the guilt washed off for a minute.
"I'm home." He finally announced and his family ran up to him to hug him. He picked Rodney up and kissed Chloe on the cheek.They all looked so happy that no one would have guessed that they once couldn't stand each other.
"What's for dinner love?" he asked as he put his hands on her tiny perfect waist. His British accent always had her feeling butterflies all over her stomach. He was the love of her life. She hadn't had any man before him but she felt lucky that the first time she found one she found the right one. God, she loved him so much, a little too much probably.
"Let's just order pizza honey,I burned the lasagna again. I'm sorry" "Okay love, it's okay. You still learning how to cook . Don't be so hard on yourself. You know I hate that." He lifted her onto the kitchen island and kissed her slow and passionately. The heat between them grew and they were almost tearing the clothes off each other. "Mommy, I'm hungry" Rodney interrupted them. Chloe's face was red with embarrassment. Leo scooped him up and started playing with him as Chloe took care of the pizza order.
The pizza only took thirty minutes to be delivered, they ate while still playing. Rodney fell asleep and Leo took him to his bed. They were happy that finally he was old enough to have his room and now they had theirs to themselves.
Chloe's mind wandered off. She was thinking about her work. Her boss had just given her some sort of ultimatum. She had been posted to Africa for an year and if she didn't like it she would have to quit or never get promoted ever. She loved her work but at the same time she couldn't leave Rodney and Leo in D.C. It was too far away. What made it even harder is she had been given two weeks to decide and one week had already gone by but he hadn't told Leo about it. Her girlfriends, Sam and Alex,had told her that she had been delaying it for too long. Tonight she was going to tell him, she thought.
"Aren't coming to bed?" Leo asked halfway down the stairs interrupting her train of thoughts. "I'm coming sweetheart just give a minute to clean up." "I'll help," he said already stacking the plates together.
"What's up with you love? You've been zoning out today." He always read her. Should she tell him?
