"Did you hear what I just said, or do you want me to repeat it? I need to speak to a family member. Why is no one answering me? Why are you all making it seem as though I am talking to myself?" Doctor Escobar flared up. The silence was killing him.
The reason he was tolerating them was due to how serious George's situation had become.
"Doctor, can we not do this right now? You already know the condition of the patient. Don't you think the most important thing is ensuring that he stays alive? I am pretty sure you don't want him to die in your hospital?" George protested. He couldn't bear the pain anymore. Doctor Escobar's ranting has pushed his button enough, forcing him to come out of his shell.
It was starting to seem like a heated argument until Kelly was forced to step in and resolve the issue before it got messier than it already seemed.
"Hey, Doctor. Can I please speak with you for a second? It's time-sensitive that I do that now." Kelly urged. He couldn't stand and watch his friend being treated like a commoner.
"I don't understand what's going on.
What do you wanna talk to me about? Can't it be said here?" Escobar raged. He spoke harshly as though he had a score to settle with Kelly, most especially George who happens to be the victim.
"I would rather not get involved in any argument with you. This is a very delicate situation. All I demand from you is your cooperation. I don't understand why you're making this difficult for everyone including yourself. It doesn't even make sense. " Kelly spoke in a placating tone. He returned the same bad energy Escobar started with.
"You the one blowing things out of proportion. What did I do wrong?
I only asked to see a family member. It's not that difficult, is it? This is a reputable hospital with strict policies. You don't want to go around breaking the damn rules, are you?" Doctor Escobar clapped back. It didn't seem like he was going to back down anytime soon.
"I see that you're a very stubborn type. I guess I just want to start making a video of you to show the world how cruel you are to your patients. Imagine what will happen to your license if a petition is written against you. I suppose you know what I am talking about?" Kelly winked at Doctor Escobar after issuing the threat.
"Is that a threat?
Are you practically threatening me in my office?" Like a wounded Lion, Escobar roared. His voice was becoming louder than a megaphone. He stayed quiet the moment he realized that people were starting to rise.
Slowly, Kelly leaned forward as he whispered into Escobar's ears, "I don't care what you call it. Let it be known that I don't issue empty threats. I meant every damn word I just said. If you still think I am not equal to the task, put me to the test and do something funny. I am not going to speak about this anymore,"
Doctor Escobar paused to process what Kelly just said. It sounded more like a threat than a warning.
Without being told, he already knew Kelly was upset. It was just a matter of time before they started exchanging blows.
"It's fine!
He can be admitted," Escobar bowed to pressure.
"He would be attended to.
But if none of his relatives shows up in the next 24 hours, we would be forced to discharge him ahead of time. Do we have a deal?" Escobar stated his condition just when everyone thought he was going to let go.
"You have my word.
I would ensure that one of his sons shows up today." Kelly assured even though he knew how impossible it would be to convince Dexter to come with him to the hospital. He barely knows Derek, George's son. That would have shown up without hesitation. Now he's stuck in between pleading for Dexter to show up or letting it slide.
George was placed on the sick bed as some nurses attended to him. He was in pain, yet managed to force a smile. He had his eyes focused on Kelly the whole time he was being treated by the nurses.
Kelly caught George staring at him.
It was too obvious to be overlooked.
"Why are you glaring at me like that?
You're smiling too. This is quite strange for someone who nearly lost his life to a heart attack,"
"Enough reason I needed to be happy. You said it yourself that I survived a heart attack that could have ended my life. The least I could do is put a smile on my face while I still can," George explained.
"Oops, I forgot.
I want to thank you and your lovely daughter for standing by me. If it weren't for the both of you, I would have ended up being a dead man," George added.
Not too long after, Doctor Escobar stepped inside. Everyone maintained their composure, including George. They knew the reason he showed up.
"How are you feeling now?"
Escobar inquired while leaning against George's sick bed.
I feel alive, I guess,"
George replied with a hint of uncertainty. It wasn't his preferred response. He quickly said that out of anxiety.
"I see. It's good to see that there's a slight improvement in your health compared to when you were brought in. Please try your best to stay out of trouble and stress. I wish you a speedy recovery," Doctor Escobar spoke to George nicely. He also advised George before leaving.
His attitude took everyone by surprise, including Ciara, who couldn't wait to ask. "Did you see what happened? When did he suddenly become that nice?"
"Wait a minute
Did you read my mind?
I was about to ask the same question. That's the only time I've seen him act nicely. Perhaps, someone might advise him," Kelly chipped in
With the way he welcomed me earlier, one would have thought that he was going to bundle me out like a thief. My heart was pounding faster, warning me against the impending storm ahead of me." George added. He wasn't left out of the discussion.
