Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 – Invisible Inheritances

Scene 1 – Ryan's House

Ryan got home and threw his backpack on the couch. His eyes drifted to his phone screen — ten unread messages. All from Annie.

— "Crap…"

He quickly called her.

— "Hey, Yan! Did you get home okay? Why didn't you answer my messages?"

Ryan's eyes widened.

— "Yan??"

— "Yeah, duh. Ryan becomes Yan. It's your nickname now."

He smiled, shyly.

— "Sorry… I got home and passed out."

— "You're forgiven. But… can I ask you something?"

— "Of course."

— "What did Lorien Valtier whisper in your ear?"

Ryan fell silent for a few seconds, then took a deep breath.

— "He… said he's counting on me in the Draft. And he called me… a prodigy."

On the other end, Annie squealed with joy.

— "I knew there was something special about you! I'm rooting for you, Yan!"

Ryan smiled, touched.

— "And that's not all. On the way home, I ran into Mr. Inavy. We talked about the legendary Ray Stormbreak… and he said he believes someone like me can become a hero."

There was silence. But it was a good silence. One of admiration and respect.

— "You will become one, Ryan. I believe that."

Scene 2 – The Stormbreak House

— "I'm home!" — Inavy shouted, opening the door with a grocery bag in hand.

Saddie, his little daughter, ran up to him.

— "Daddyyyyy!" — she jumped into the arms of the world's number one hero.

Inavy lifted her, laughing.

— "My little ray of sunshine!"

In the living room, Ethan didn't even look up from his handheld console.

— "That's quite the hour for a married man to be getting home, huh?"

— "This kid…" Inavy muttered.

Rose Eldara walked in with her arms crossed and one eyebrow raised.

— "Welcome home, my love. Did you bring the groceries?"

Inavy froze. He looked at his hand… empty.

— "About that… so… I bought them, but left the bag on a bench at the park."

— "AGAIN, INAVY?! You've been like this since high school! Even Darius wouldn't forget something like that!"

— "You're comparing me to that scatterbrained lunatic? It's a miracle he doesn't forget his own name!"

Laughter filled the house. After dinner, Inavy approached Ethan.

— "Son, can we talk?"

Ethan paused the game, slightly surprised.

— "Did something happen?"

— "It's quick. Let's go for a walk."

Scene 3 – Ray Stormbreak Monument / Park

The night sky glittered with stars. The wind danced through the leaves.Inavy and Ethan stood before the towering statue of Ray.

— "You brought me here… to clean Grandpa's statue?" Ethan groaned.

— "It's the least we can do for him."

They cleaned in silence. Respectfully.Inavy looked at Ray's face, carved in stone.

— "You know, Ethan… you remind me a lot of Ray."

— "There we go again. People are always comparing me to him, to you, to Uncle Ron… It's exhausting, Dad."

Inavy sat on the bench in front of the statue.

— "I know how that feels. It happened to me too. From the day I was born, everyone expected me to be the next Ray. But do you know why?"

Ethan stared at him.

— "Because every Stormbreak represents hope. And every time one is born… the world dares to believe that something good can still rise."

— "But I just want to be myself…"

— "And you will be. But listen to me, son:You're like Ray not because of your powers. But because you protect people without expecting anything in return.Just like you did for Ryan."

Ethan looked away.

— "It was the least I could do…"

— "Did you know we're only half Stormbreak?"

— "What do you mean?"

Inavy stood, facing the stars.

— "Thirty-five years ago, our city was attacked by the Order of Tyrus. They wanted to kill a baby… the Heir of Chaos."

Ethan's eyes widened.

— "It was you?!"

— "Yes. And I was saved by a man… Julius. He was my father. A warrior from a distant kingdom called Nionderland. He had no powers, but he fought with everything he had to protect me.He placed me and my mother, Mary Stormbreak, into an indestructible capsule."

— "Grandpa Ray's sister…"

— "Exactly. They fought. They won…But they died that day.Ray found me. From then on, he raised me as his own son.And he taught me something I now pass on to you…"

Inavy took a deep breath, his voice firm:

— "Our legacy as Stormbreaks is to sacrifice ourselves for those we love. There's no greater proof of heroism than that."

He placed his hands on Ethan's shoulders.

— "I don't want you to be the next Ray. Or the next Inavy.I want you to be the first Ethan Stormbreak."

Tears welled up in Ethan's eyes. Crying, he hugged his father tightly.

— "That's all I ever wanted to hear…especially from you, Dad."

— "Then honor that legacy, my son."

They looked up to the sky.

And in the stars, for a brief moment, the silhouettes of Ray Stormbreak and Tiana seemed to be watching them.

Inavy smiled.

— "You see that, guys? He's ready."
