Chapter 1 - Awakening

Oz sat quietly, he liked to think of himself as a patient man.

Despite repeatedly telling himself that it was out of his control and "it is what it is", he couldn't keep his heart rate down. He stared at his phone but found himself completely unable to focus on anything on screen.

After all he was next, and despite only being in this world for four months Oz understood how important this moment was. It would, quite literally, decide his future.

Less than an hour after he'd transmigrated he knew this moment would come, as soon as he decided to become a hunter and leave the walls this moment became inevitable, unfortunately that didn't make him any less nervous.

Just him, his spear and a skill to decide his future.

The light above the steel door flashed green and Oz dusted off his black combat gear lifted coco off the ground and moved towards the door.

"Good luck" a soft voice came from behind, Sophie, one of his classmates and next in the queue. He looked back at her and smiled

"Thanks, see you on the other side?" Oz wanted to facepalm immediately 'Aren't you a drama queen, it's a fucking low-level goblin'

Sophie, unbothered by his theatrical one liner let out a grin "See you on the other side"

Inside there was no one to greet him or exchange pleasantries with, instead just like the other facilities it was highly minimalistic, purely a steel room with bright lighting, on the other side of the room lied exit and in between a naked angry little green skinned goblin.

Its limbs were long and spindly, ending in clawed fingers, and its pointed ears twitched with every sound. Covered in grime and scars,

The goblin lunged first, snarling, its claws flashing in the air. Oz stepped sideways, letting the creature's momentum carry it forward, then swept his spear low. The shaft cracked against the goblin's knee, dropping it with a yelp. Before it could recover, he spun the spear in his hands and drove the tip straight through its chest..

'Those Four months weren't for nothing after all' Oz watched as the 4 foot creature slowly stopped twitching 'They said it'd be anti-climactic but it's a bit unnerving how similar these things are to children'

The goblin twitched once m, eyes wide with surprise, then went it still

Oz had expected his stats to all be around 1 and maybe a couple to be at 2 as soon as he saw how high his agility was he knew it had to be a result of his innate skill 'swiftstride'.

'[12] that's not bad,I should get some decent offers' the number below his level which would come to be colloquially known as combat score sounded fancy but was just the sum of all your attributes plus whatever boost you got from your skills. Which tended to make it something of an obscure measurement based on the sheer variance of skills, however, the fact that everyone could see it made it a decent identifier of how highly the system rated your innate skill.

For example, The average grown adult human would have 2 point in int 1 in wisdom 1 in agility and 0 in Strength and constitution for a total combat score of 4, his additional work in these last 6 months meant he already had a few more then the average adult. Still, a growth from 8 to 12 could still net him a decent opportunity depending on his innate skills growth potential.

"Speaking of innate skills let's see what I'm working with"

[Swiftstride (A+): grants an additional 4 agility every level]

He blinked.

Then blinked again.

"Holy shit."

Four agility. Per level.

Wtf?

This wasn't a skill it was some bullshit.

Unclassed people like him would gain a measly 3 total free points per level, that meant this skill gave more points in agility than everyone else got Fp in total. Every. level.

If you do the maths..

That meant at Level 10, if he never touched the attribute again, he'd have 40 EXTRA Agility, the average level 10 Hunter probably had 12-18 points of agility, not including base stats or gear. This was an absurd hack.

 A+ tier, all right.

Oz let a grin spread across his face. The nervousness from before evaporated like smoke. He felt weightless.
