Cue scene to me shoving berries into Limpy's throat. Why? you may ask? Well, I needed to know if they're poisonous of course, and since Limpy is already dying, it'd be a waste to just let him die just like that.
-
"Eat. The. Goddamn. Berries. Limpy!" I shout as I shove a fistful of berries down Limpy's Throat. The red blueberry looking berries seem to be safe. As evidenced by Limpy being fine-ish, choking yes, but frothing? Nope.
After an experiment that would make Peta hunt me down if they saw me do this on Earth. I tentatively try out the berries, seeing as they're not dangerous, or at least not lethal to Limpy.
As I place a berry on my mouth, there's one thought running through my mind. "Sweet." It tastes really, REALLY sweet, like swallowing pure sugar. "Welp, beggars can't be choosers, at least it's not immediately dangerous to my health". I then shove some more into my mouth until the growling in my stomach stops.
After I've had my fill, I look to Limpy, pitifully dying on the ground. I sigh, "Limpy... You may have been a bastard, but you will be missed." I give the Green Wolf a moment of silence before I then turn around and focus on other priorities
"Now I only need to find a water source since the forest is littered with these red blueberries". As I walk around the forest, occasionally dropping imprints as I go, which didn't trigger the drawback since i never actually used them. After half an hour of walking aimlessly, I spot a small river. It's super clear, so there's no danger of predators hiding below. Unless they're invisible... This is another world after all, you can never be too sure.
I pick up a rock and throw it on the river, watching it closely as it drops down, I focus on whether it is sinking irregularly to check for any supposed invisible predators. A few rocks later, I am sure there are no invisible predators underwater, only some fish that I scared.
I take a couple of sips of water to check the taste. It seems fine? A bit refreshing actually, though that might just be the thirst in me talking.
So, Food? Check. Water? Check. Safety? Ehh, kinda.
I then drink as much water as I reasonably can, hoard a couple fistfuls of the red blueberries which I then store in my makeshift berry storage pack, aka my shirt.
My goal? A safe place to sleep. Not a cave hopefully, since most of them are damp and smelly, contrary to popular beliefs. I should probably look for a big tree with wide enough branches that I won't fall down while sleeping. Or I could look for civilization. That also seems fine.
After a couple of hours of walking, the day is getting darker really soon. I really need to get to a safe spot quickly. The only viable option I have right now is a chunky tree near a cave. Why not the cave you may ask? Something else probably already lives in it, and I'm not sure it won't mind me sleeping in it's home.
I leave an imprint on the ground before I start climbing the tree in case I fall. Eventually I reach a wide and sturdy branch enough for me to sleep on as long as I don't roll around too much. I then check the other branches for any dangerous animals or hazards like snakes and insects.
After finding none, I get comfortable on the branch and lean on the chunky trunk. I eat some of the berries I carried in my shirt satchel. I then relax after walking for hours and an eventful day.
A couple hours of resting later, I look at the gradually brightening surroundings.
"Aight, time for a new day."
Problem number one on my mind right now though. When I do find civilization, how do I interact? Do they even speak the same language as I do? Even on earth, there were thousands of languages. I can't just rely on my isekai status to coast through all of this, unless... Maybe I can roll for something that'll help me with that? Unlikely though, so I won't rely on that.
A couple minutes of head scratching later, I now have a plan, a dumb one maybe, but a plan nevertheless. I could pretend to be deaf, then I'd speak through gestures and stuff. "Genius."
I'm gonna look like an utter dumbass though if I can somehow understand them. The panel shouldn't have sent me here without even the basic necessities like being able to understand the locals. Or it could have, you can never be too sure with beings of unfathomable powers.
Where should I start looking though? "Guess I'll just pick a random direction, maybe follow along a river. Civilizations are usually located around rivers.
-
I picked a random direction and started walking. Not long after, I find a decent sized river. Now normally you would follow the path of the river beside it. But I'm still not sure if invisible creatures in the water exist or not. You can never be too sure with isekai worlds with their wonky creatures. Plus, rivers are gathering places for animals to drink. Therefore I shouldn't get too close to the river when I'm following it.
I walk a good distance away from the river, imbedding imprints as I go as an escape option in case I am in danger. Around maybe half an hour or so, I find the first man made object in this world, a path that leads to a bridge over the river. Did humans really build this though? Maybe it was elves or dwarfs, or maybe little blue people with white caps.
The bridge looks very ordinary, it's a stone bridge built from stones. What more can I say? At least I have a path I can follow now.
I then follow the path. A distance away of course, you can never be too careful in another world, maybe there are bandits, or ambush predators waiting for clueless travelers to walk the path straight into their grubby little hands.
As i follow the path, I get the feeling something is off. I am in another world, yes. But nothing exciting has happened since Limpy. Maybe this is normal? And the movies and books I've read were over exaggerating...
"Maybe i spoke too soon."
Huh... I see a carriage on the distance, on it's side beside the path. I can vaguely see bloodstains on it's wooden frame, and a bit on the ground near it. I also see three figures that look very human.
"Humans exist in this world? Cool."
They are carrying weapons though. Two of em have swords, and the last one has an axe. They're also standing over what I assume as dead bodies, since they are not moving, and the lots of blood beside them. The three are also looting the bodies.
"Hmm... Decisions, decisions."
Should I risk my life to kill the bandits for loot. Or should i just leave, like a normal human being?
...
"Nah."
[Author's Note: No, the Roll System is NOT rigged. I use a D100 dice for quality of results, a wheel spin to decide the type of result received, and another wheel spin to decide the subtype.]
[Here is the specifics of the system:
Roll Qualities:
1-40 = Common
41-70 = Uncommon
71-85 = Rare
86-95 = Epic
96-99 = Legendary
100 = Mythic
Types:
Weapon = Melee, Range
Skill = Combat, Auxiliary, Lifestyle
Artifact/Item = Permanent, Consumable
Ally/Summon = Construct, Non-Human, Human
Mutation = Physical, Mental, Soul
Curse = Reroll, and increase quality of result by a rank, but add a drawback. Can only be chosen ONCE per roll.
Grant Choice = Mc is given a choice on what type to pick. Subtype is NOT included.]
[After i get the quality of the result and the type and subtype, i usually start brainstorming what to give the mc that is appropriate. I can't just give him a massive greatsword if he isn't the type to use that kind of weapon.
Also, I'll explain more functions as we go, as opposed to me dumping you guys and gals a truckload of info at once.
Second also, you guys and gals can recommend more types and subtypes if you feel they would be good to incorporate into the roll system. Though warning, i will not use the suggestions if they are bad or will ruin the Roll System. Also another warning, if I do incorporate your ideas, this will mean that the odds will change as i add more and more options. Like from 1/7 to 1/8, and etc.]
