The streets of Sunny City were noisy with chatter. Above, the Moon and lanterns provided light to ensure that all saw what was about to take place.
At the city centre was a makeshift arena, which was actually just a large chalk circle drawn onto the stone, a small row of seats to act as the champion stands, and a microphone set up for the announcers. An invisible proximity barrier was placed around the chalk, to ensure that the crowd remained safe.
The crowd of hundreds were standing in a circle around this arena. Although many of them had just watched the trainer's Initiation Duels earlier, this battle was even more exciting.
"Alright people, we've got a banger battle about to go down for us today!"
The announcer's amplified voice boomed through the streets. Some people even stood watching from rooftops above, not daring to miss what was about to go down.
"But before we start, I'd like us to make some noise for those sitting in the champion's stands!"
Everyone's eyes turned towards the three people sitting there.
Jade, the former Lostlight champion of Nature, and father to the two trainers about to battle.
Yoyo, the current Nature Champion, who had watched his son Kite get defeated only earlier that day.
And a new figure, who had arrived in town just for this battle...
Reyna, Lostlight's Champion of Fire. She wore a long red cloak that covered her entire body, and a strange red mask covering her face. All that could be seen was her dark hair.
The crowd brought their hands together in applause and sang their cheers. The sounds could be heard all throughout the city.
"And now, without further ado, I'd like to introduce our challenger."
The noise slowly died down, as the attention was drawn to the man standing on one side of the chalk circle with a black battlecube in his hand.
"After only earning his Trainer Badge this morning, this trainer has wasted no time in issuing his first challenge. After running away from home three years ago, he has finally returned with a bang, defeating none other than Kite, the nature prodigy. Now, he wants to test himself even further... Introducing the challenger, Emerald!"
The crowd cheered for Emerald, though they were reluctant. After all, they knew who his opponent was. Still, Emerald stood there with a calm expression on his face, eyes half covered by his cap, and hands resting in his jacket pocket.
"And now, on the other side of the arena, we have the trainer who has been challenged. Not just by anyone, but by his younger brother... after years of hard training, he has made a name for himself as a prestigious Fire Type Trainer. He even wishes to someday challenge Lostlight's Champion of fire, Reyna... Introducinggggg, Lien!"
This time, the crowd's cheers were deafening. Clearly, Lien was the city's favourite.
The young man stood there with his green hair slicked back with oil, and dressed in his finest brown suit. His face was smug, and in his hand, he juggled a battlecube with confidence.
"This is a 1 battlemon duel. The first battlemon to knock the other unconscious is the winner. Do the trainers accept these rules?"
Lien's smirk grew wider. "Fine by me."
Emerald remained silent, nodding his head.
A silence hung in the air for a moment. The crowd's anticipation grew heavier with every second.
The announcer took in a deep breath.
"Then let the battle begin!"
The crowd roared crazily.
Lien stopped juggling his battlecube and stared down his younger brother from across the arena. Then, he placed both hands on the cube, preparing to open it.
"Sorry in advance Em." He snarled. "I don't take duels lightly, so I chose my strongest battlemon."
Lien pryed open his battlecube, and instantly, a distorted blur began to emerge from inside.
"Come out and play, Burnaroo!"
The blur faded away, and what was left in its wake was a beast of a battlemon.

Burnaroo was a kangaroo with honey brown skin. Its legs and arms were incredibly muscular, and yet it only used its tail to hold its body up. Around its fists were balls of flames acting as gloves.
The battlemon held up its guard both defensively and offensively. Its large orange eyes staring down the arena, eagerly waiting for its opponent.
Lien stood confidently behind his Burnaroo with his arms folded. He knew that his battlemon was strong, and more importantly, of the Fire type.
The crowd cheered at the sight of it.
"Have you apologised to your Draxil in advance? He can fly all he wants, but once these flames touch him, he's toast." Lien taunted.
Emerald stood there, battlecube in hand.
He knew Lien was right. Fire was strong against Nature, and with those fire gloves, Burniroo could produce immense flames.
However, Lien had made an incredible mistake.
Emerald prepared to open his battlecube, but first...
"Draxil isn't here, Lien." He spoke, loud enough for everyone to hear.
The crowds let out mutters of confusion, and even Lien's face twisted.
"What are you talking about?" He spat, the smile slowly leaving his face. Even Burniroo let out a noise of bewilderment.
"As I said," Emerald repeated. "Draxil is not here."
Emerald ripped open his battlecube, and a bluish purple distortion emerged from inside.
The crowd watched with wide eyes, waiting for the distortion to fade away, and once it had, they were left with chills running down the lengths of their spines.
"Let's end this fast, Hanmara."
