Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Mysterious Wall

Wang Ziting picked up the set of dice he had just thrown, his face darkening. He realized it wasn't a hallucination—it was the same wolf's tooth design he always used—and his expression grew even more grim.

"Shut up!" he bellowed. " My cousin said that ordinary people can't get out of the Mysterious Wall. To break the deadlock, we have to rely on spiritual insight to see through it. Everyone, check yourselves—does anyone have spiritual insight?"

After saying that, he concentrated all his energy on praying, hoping to awaken his spiritual insight. He didn't know if being chased by the Mysterious Wall counted as facing life and death, but at this point, all he could do was pray.

Fang Xiu ignored everyone else's actions and began feeling along the right wall. He never relied on others to awaken their spiritual energy and become spirit masters.

Among these people, the one most likely to become a spirit master was undoubtedly himself.

Only he had truly experienced life-and-death situations and had close contact with the Gui.

If he couldn't become a spirit master, then no one else could either. So instead of praying, he decided to search for clues.

He began to recall the overall layout of the mental hospital, thinking that the way out should be on the right side.

Earlier, he had moved through the stairwell, and at that time, the exit of the stairwell was on the right side. Although he couldn't tell which building of the mental hospital this was, he assumed the building layout should be the same.

Since the wall-breaking was an illusion, he closed his eyes and felt his way down the stairs on the right side, with a high probability of finding the door.

Fang Xiu closed his eyes and felt his way down the stairs along the right wall. His unusual behavior immediately caught everyone's attention.

After all, everyone else was standing in place, and only Fang Xiu had separated from the group to act alone, making it hard not to notice.

Wang Ziting watched Fang Xiu's actions thoughtfully. By now, he had also noticed that Fang Xiu was somewhat unusual—too calm. From start to finish, his face showed no signs of panic, not even when he encountered the illusion.

He couldn't help but recall the previous scene. When the female doctor appeared, his first reaction was to flee, but what was Fang Xiu doing at that moment?

Fang Xiu didn't run; instead, he stood against the wall to avoid being pushed aside.

Despite being in the front row, he didn't choose to flee immediately. In the end, only Fang Xiu, Zhao Hao, and Li Feifei remained.

Now Li Feifei was gone, undoubtedly dead.

But Fang Xiu and Zhao Hao had stayed in that corridor for at least a minute. What were they doing?

Why didn't the ghost kill them? Why didn't they flee?

The two men and the female ghost stayed there for a full minute—could they have been taking advantage of the female ghost?

Wang Ziting dismissed this absurd thought. Though he didn't know what the two had done in that minute, one thing was certain.

The ghost only kills one person at a time—men in three minutes, women in two minutes. During this time, it's absolutely safe, even if you stay by the ghost's side. Fang Xiu and the other two being alive is the best proof of that.

At this point, Fang Xiu had already descended the stairs, creating distance between himself and the others.

Wang Ziting saw Fang Xiu go downstairs and seemed to realize something. He imitated Fang Xiu's actions, closing his eyes and feeling his way down the stairs along the wall. The others were all drawn to the two men's actions.....

In Fang Xiu's sense of touch, he had been feeling the solid, rough wall the entire time. But when he reached the fifteenth step, the sensation in his hands changed.

It became smooth and increasingly cold, as if he had touched steel.

Fang Xiu suddenly opened his eyes, looked at the bare wall in front of him, and without hesitation, immediately pressed his hands against it, trying to find the door handle.

At this moment, Wang Ziting, who had been following Fang Xiu's lead, also felt his way over. He quickly realized that the texture was different and couldn't help but rejoice.

"It's a door!"

With a click, Fang Xiu turned the door handle he had just found, and the door opened.

At the wall, an iron door had materialized out of nowhere. Now, the iron door opened, revealing a dim corridor.

Whoosh!

Wang Ziting, like a madman, was the first to rush inside.

Fang Xiu said nothing, simply walking through the door on his own.

The others, seeing the exit, also rushed inside like madmen.

The group began to flee down the corridor. Though Fang Xiu was the second to enter, he ended up in the second-to-last position.

It wasn't that he was slow; it was unnecessary.

When facing the female doctor, you don't need to run faster than her; you just need to run faster than the last person. Plus, this way, you can touch her thighs a few more times while she's eating, hoping to awaken your spiritual essence sooner.

Moreover, sometimes being at the front isn't necessarily a good thing.

Fang Xiu was well aware that this mental hospital wasn't just home to the female doctor—there were other strange beings as well. Though most were locked in their wards, don't forget that some ward doors were open.

As they ran, Wang Ziting, who had been leading the way, suddenly stopped, and the others followed suit.

Because in front of them were two diverging paths, one on the left and one on the right. Both paths were extremely dark, with visibility less than a meter, and no one could see what lay beyond them.

So no one dared to go yet. If they chose the wrong path, wouldn't they be caught like fish in a barrel by the female doctor?

At this moment, everyone's gaze naturally turned to Fang Xiu, who had just arrived at the back of the group.

Since Fang Xiu had previously found a way out of the haunted wall, they naturally assumed he might also find a way out of this situation.

Unfortunately, Fang Xiu was also unsure which path to choose.

He hadn't explored every corner of the mental hospital; instead, he had moved through its walls like a ghost, familiarizing himself with the general layout and some of the routes he had taken.

Unfortunately, neither of the two paths here were within his knowledge.

"Fang Xiu, which path should we take?"

Wang Ziting hurriedly asked.

Seeing the expectant looks on everyone's faces, Fang Xiu couldn't help but find it amusing. When they were escaping, they wanted to push him aside, but now that they were in trouble, they remembered him.

Isn't that the definition of a tool?

However, Fang Xiu didn't care, because he also regarded everyone else as tools. At present, the female doctor was invincible against them, and the only way to buy time was to sacrifice lives.

Fang Xiu didn't speak, but instead chose the right path directly.

Even though he didn't know which path was correct, he knew that he couldn't waste any time at this moment. Every second was bought with human lives.

Seeing Fang Xiu head toward the right, everyone followed suit without exception, running toward the right as well.

Just then,

the sound of joints creaking echoed through the air.

Everyone turned to look and saw the female doctor, resembling a spider, hanging upside down from the ceiling. Her pale eyes stared intently at everyone, and her white lab coat stood out vividly in the dim corridor.

"Ah!!"

"Run!"

"Don't block the way!"

The crowd erupted into chaos, frantically rushing forward.

But human speed could not compare to the female doctor's speed; two legs could not outrun four.

The female doctor's ghostly figure suddenly appeared above everyone's heads on the ceiling, her long black hair cascading down, striking the last person in the group.
