Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

In a vast darkness, a bright golden light walked forward.

Unconscious with no will, yet lead by instinct, it slowly descended on an earthy ground.

In front of him a palace that spanned heaven and earth shining in earth colours.

The light walked forward, saying slightly, comfortable now that it has 'returned' home.

At the end of the pathway, it entered the palace in a natural manner.

Lights were flying around, most of them shining brighter, yet they didn't step out of their way to bother the small golden light.

The golden light came in front of a reception.

"Fortune Spirit? We haven't had one in the Earth Devil Palace for a long time!" another light on the other side of the reception said.

This seemed to wake up the golden light.

"Where-" it was about to ask, but suddenly stumped as memories flooded.

A few moments later, it seemed to have regained its intelligence and calmed down, saying in a somewhat confused voice "I died?"

"Well, at least your soul seems strong!" the receptionist said.

"Let me introduce to you – this is the Earth Devil Palace!

We are all chosen people who fulfilled the requirements of the Earth.

With the upmost privilege, we escape the river of reincarnation and are allowed to keep our memories throughout our lives, even going so far as to be blessed and awaken special abilities.

As far as I can see, you should be a Fortune Spirit!

Usually, fortune is the matter of heaven, but after all, there are many intersections, so it's not too surprising to have a fortune spirit in the earth!"

"Fortune Spirit?" the voice asked, followed by a small information seemingly appearing out of thin air.

He could understand instantly – Fortune Spirits were born out of Fortune and Misfortune, they themselves have no purpose, but heaven and earth like to use fortune spirits to control, influence or supress fortune.

Every spirit had their own ability and responsibility.

Before the golden light could look further, the receptionist started talking again.

"The moment you entered the Earth Devil Palace; you were regarded as a member.

If it wasn't for the earth's guidance, even though you have your own innate fortune ability, you will have many difficulties throughout your life.

A spirit losing its way is a rather common occurrence.

There are countless geniuses but only a few that can reach the highest heights!

With the blessing of earth and the help of the palace, you are at least sure to have enough chances!

As a member, you also have responsibilities. Some have missions to fulfil, others have to just exist in a world to make a change…

Let me see your responsibility!"

The receptionist moved around behind the reception, as if typing n a computer, as far as the golden light could see.

A moment later, the Receptionist looked up and shook her head "There is no responsibility here!

Well, this isn't uncommon.

Usually this means you are too weak to take over your designated responsibility.

Anyways, once you are reborn, you will have your own worries, so it's better to start with no mission!"

"What am I supposed to do now?" the golden light asked.

Everything was rather rushed and there was no deeper explanation, which made him feel like he called at rush hour.

"If you are ready, I can send you into reincarnation now! Do you have any more questions?"

'Of course I do, but I don't even know where to start-' he thought to himself.

The receptionist took the momentary hesitation as a No and pressed a button on the table, one that just so happened to appear when she needed it.

Instantly, a little portal opened up, like an eye opening after a long sleep.

There was no time to even scream in surprise, before the golden eye was sucked in.

The receptionist didn't react to this. The light stood up and walked behind.

Behind a door, was a small room with other receptionists.

One of them asked "Did you just get one right before the break?"

"Yes! How annoying! I thought today would be a good day, but I was full from morning to now."

Another nodded "I am experiencing the same situation. What happened?"

A light that was brighter than others explained "I heard from the upper ranks that the cycle of the primordial world is about to start again.

Who knows, maybe heaven and earth are trying to cultivate talents to send them there?

In the end, this is a desperate move by Earth, since Heaven has been benefitting more from the broken cycle!"

The golden light's receptionist sighed "The last one I just received was a Fortune Spirit! I haven't seen one among us Earth Devils. Maybe this move by earth is an attempt to get back at Heaven?"

"Who knows? These matters are outside of our jurisdiction. Let's not talk about this matter and waste our break.

After so many cycles, nothing has changed, maybe this is just another wasted attempt.

It's better to just focus on the present and enjoy things!"

"Alas, chief, you can enjoy yourself, but we need to work hard at the reception!"

"Hmph, who told you guys to have so few merits when you were chosen by the Earth to enter the Earth Devil Palace?

Just be satisfied that there's a path upwards!"

Another light nodded and made an expression of telling gossip "I heard those Heaven suckers don't even get to rise…"

The lights chatted and laughed, enjoying the short break from their work.

On the other side, the golden light kept falling endlessly.

At one point, it saw many stars all around, but there was no time to inspect them.

Until finally, the path changed from falling to being pulled.

Below the light, there was a vast landscape, one continent with a huge mountain range spanning from southwest to northeast, lush greens in the west and deep waters in the east.

The light fell to a small spot west to the mountain range, not too far from the north.
