The suffocating sent of lavender and rose intoxicated the room, forcefully awaking me from my transient and ephemeral slumber. I opened my eyes realising that I was not where I had slept the night before. The room was laced with pink and ribbons. Plushies were seen towering over one and another, surveying the room whilst arrays of flowers seemed to be bursting over the windowsill, occupying both the sill and the rose-pink walls. Frills and lace were draped over the corners of the 4 poster bed decorated as if it was apart of his majesty's entourage. Swiftly, I moved the blanket and arose from the bed making my way promptly to the mirror, that stood boastfully in the corner of the room. My hands traced the skin on my face and arms. In the mirror, stood a girl with a round glistening skin. Her skin was as pale as the moon and large beautiful brown doe eyes occupied her face not green. Also my long straight blonde hair was replaced with locks of brown wavy hair that flowed like honey past my now shoulders framing this unusual yet beautiful face. She was quite beautiful-no in fact very beautiful-but who was she??
Pacing through the room, I conjured up every possible reason as to why I was in this body. As a child, I had a passion of reading books about switching bodies and transmigration, so I knew that unless this was a very realistic dream, which I doubt, I have switched bodies with another person. Thoughts were overflowing my head, yet I knew I had to answer them one at a time if I am to survive. I made my way over to the only window in the room. Grey clouds loomed over the sky, blocking out any light that the sun was emanating out.
"Pathetic Fallacy" I scoffed
Peering out of the windows, my eyes lay across a beautiful and entrancing garden. Rows of flowers were neatly laid out, that were promptly in front of towering willow trees. Looking out of the window didn't give me much hope, this could be anyone's garden. After much deliberation, I decided to sit down on the bed and wait for a maid or someone to enter the room. In the books that I had read, the protagonist always waited for the maids to come so I believed that it would be the best course of action. It was already around 8 so one would come soon. I sat impatiently on the bed counting the seconds. Seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned to hours, yet no one came. Where was I?
Restless, I decided to look outside and try to judge the time. By now the grey clouds had cleared up and the sun was shining brightly in the middle of the sky. Surely it must be 12 by now. Just then the door opened and someone entered
"My lady its time for you to wake up"
I watched as the maid made it to my bed, not realising I was by the window. I let out a cough.
"Ackk"
She turned around promptly facing me. I got a good look of her face. She had black sleek hair tied neatly into a bun and dull blue eyes. Her skin was clear with a few freckles occupying her cheek.
"My lady whatever are you doing being awake this early"
I looked at her confused. What did she mean this early. The maid looked at me impatiently as if she was waiting for a reply
"I had a very bad headache" I lied. I mean this wasn't a lie, I'm sure the original owner of this body did suffer from headaches from the overwhelming scents that overpowered the room. " I needed fresh air"
The maid rolled her eyes before glaring at me, giving me a look that was rather haughty and condescending and sighed.
"My lady you shouldn't lie like this. You know the young master won't be pleased. We've had you checked out by the doctors before they say you are just fine."
She said seeming as though she was talking to a toddler that was having a tantrum.
"If the young master gets mad because of you we have to deal with all the stress. So please behave"
I decided to stay silent no good would come from talking to her. There goes my 1st plan of asking the maids for answers, I thought. It seemed as though her personality would reflect that of the maids working here, making it unhelpful for me.
"I'll help you get ready now my lady"
She helped me get dressed out of my night garment into a beautiful blue dress. I looked at my self in the mirror, it was very pretty but very childish. Ribbons and beads were seen dangling in it from everywhere and it was very poofy. I was about to question her choices before deciding not to. The maid had made it very clear from the start that she did not like me. I did not want to make her even more frustrated.
"My lady, I'll be leading you to the dining room now"
I gracefully nodded before slipping out.
"Will the young master be joining me too"
She shot me a look, one of disbelief and shock.
"I'll pretend I did not hear that my lady"
I looked at her strangely observing her every facial expression. She seemed to have a kind face and be a very diligent and hard worker yet for some reason she was being incredibly rude. Perhaps, I'm an illegitimate child I thought, as the rude maid opened the door and ushered me to follow her
