Volume 1 Chapter 183: Zhang Shaoqing's Troubles
Wen Yang tidied himself up to conceal any trace of what had just happened.
Luckily, the earlier shock had completely killed his mood; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to face anyone right now.
He opened the dormitory door.
Standing outside was a woman dressed in a form-fitting cheongsam, her smile gentle and poised.
The cheongsam accentuated her figure: her ample chest, slim waist, and full hips formed an almost perfect S-shaped curve. Her delicately made-up face made her look barely over thirty, exuding an air of intellectual elegance.
However, Wen Yang's mind was still filled with thoughts of Ning Chu's body, and he was a little annoyed that this woman had interrupted their intimate moment.
It wasn't easy convincing Ning Chu to take the initiative to kiss him!
After a quick glance, he asked curiously, "And you are?"
"I'm Zhang Shaoqing's mother, Zhang Shuyi."
He had imagined Zhang Shaoqing's overly controlling mother to be harsh and mean-looking, but he didn't expect someone so gentle and graceful.
"Oh, hello, Auntie."
"..." Zhang Shuyi's expression froze for a moment, but she quickly regained her gentle smile. "I'm here to find Shaoqing. Is he here?"
Wen Yang recalled Zhang Shaoqing's instructions before leaving and shook his head cluelessly. "He probably went out. You might want to check somewhere else."
He was eager to get this auntie to leave so he could continue the lingering romantic atmosphere from earlier.
Thinking about Ning Chu's sweet taste…
However, Zhang Shuyi walked into the dorm, her brows slightly furrowed. After scanning the room, her gaze landed on Ning Chu, who was standing on the balcony.
"Why is there a girl in the dorm?"
Wen Yang was startled but quickly explained, "It's a guy, he just looks pretty."
A guy?
Through the balcony window, Zhang Shuyi scrutinized Ning Chu.
At that moment, Ning Chu was wearing a loose jacket, which completely concealed her already modest chest. However, her jeans hugged her thighs snugly. Though she wasn't tall, her long legs gave her a slender and proportionate figure.
She had just washed her face, and when she looked up, she saw Zhang Shuyi observing her through the glass. Feeling nervous and guilty, Ning Chu forced a polite smile.
Zhang Shuyi's eyes swept over Ning Chu from head to toe, and no matter how she looked, she couldn't shake the impression that this was a young girl.
"Are you sure it's a guy?"
"Auntie, really, he is."
Zhang Shuyi frowned slightly and turned to look at Zhang Shaoqing's messy desk. Walking over, she started tidying it up while asking, "I called him, but he didn't pick up. He's not in the dorm either. Could something have happened to him?"
"Auntie, what could possibly happen to a grown man like him?" Wen Yang tried his best to reassure her. "He just left this morning. Who knows where he went to have fun?"
"I haven't been able to reach him for days… He didn't say anything before leaving?"
"No, he didn't."
After tidying up her son's desk, Zhang Shuyi began pacing back and forth anxiously. A moment later, she left the dorm in a hurry.
Once the door was closed, Wen Yang let out a sigh of relief. He turned to look at Ning Chu, who had just come back inside from the balcony, and asked expectantly, "Shall we continue?"
"Dream on!"
Ning Chu's face turned red as she shot him a glare. She sat down at her desk, stretched lazily, and asked, "Was that Shaoqing's mom?"
"Yeah, she seemed pretty easygoing. I don't get why Shaoqing's avoiding her."
The book didn't delve into Zhang Shaoqing's family background, so Ning Chu could only speculate, "Do you think she's abusive toward Shaoqing?"
"Do you see Zhang Shaoqing as the type to take a beating without fighting back or running away?"
"True..."
Ning Chu propped her chin on her hand, her expression a little worried.
Could this issue push Zhang Shaoqing further down the path of becoming the antagonist as described in the book?
That shameless rogue behavior, though annoying, was still better than committing crimes and harming girls.
Seeing Ning Chu's worried expression, Wen Yang could tell her meddlesome heart couldn't stay still. "This is Shaoqing's family matter. We outsiders shouldn't interfere, right?"
"I'm just a little worried..."
"You see, you're always worrying about unnecessary things," Wen Yang said, leaning against the wardrobe, looking down at Ning Chu's side profile. "For him, a drink or two will solve everything."
"Let's hope so," Ning Chu muttered. "Why is Zhang Shaoqing always so troublesome?"
Look at Wang Jie—he's so worry-free. Always glued to his computer, reliable and honest, with a cute girlfriend, and never gives her anything to stress about.
She sat at her computer for a moment, contemplating, but eventually gave up on the idea of interfering.
Even an honest judge would find it hard to resolve family disputes, let alone her.
Ning Chu looked up at Wen Yang, who was still standing nearby. "Why are you still standing there?"
Wen Yang didn't say a word, just stared intently at her lips. His gaze made her blush, and she glared at him in annoyance. "What's your problem? Go play your game!"
She'd been all passionate and dazed from the kiss earlier, but now that she'd calmed down, she wanted to act like nothing happened.
"Fine. Duo queue?"
"No talking about the novel anymore!"
"Got it, no more novel talk."
Watching Wen Yang walk away, Ning Chu sighed deeply.
Even though spending time with Wen Yang was fun, there were always some chaotic and bothersome things popping up to give her a headache.
As for Zhang Shaoqing's family issues, it seemed he'd have to resolve them himself. Ning Chu didn't even know how she could help...
Just as she opened her game, the dorm door swung open again.
Both Ning Chu and Wen Yang turned to look. It was Zhang Shaoqing, sneaking into the room like a thief.
"Did my mom come by earlier?"
"Yeah."
"You didn't sell me out, right?"
Wen Yang rolled his eyes. "Do I look like the type to sell you out?"
"Good. I'll just grab a couple of clothes. Tonight, I'm crashing at Wang Jie's place."
Ning Chu couldn't help but ask, "Hey! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I'll just hide out for a while. It's not my problem; it's hers," Zhang Shaoqing said with a carefree smile. Then, with a mischievous grin, he added, "What's with you? Can't stop meddling again?"
"Relax, I've got it all planned out!" He looked smug as he continued, "I'll just avoid my mom until she gives up and admits defeat."
"I'm a grown man in college, and she's still nagging me like a toddler. Who could take that?!"
"She's even planning to set me up on blind dates. I'm only eighteen, still a kid! I haven't had my fun yet, and she's already pushing me into the grave. How heartless is that? What era is she living in, still doing arranged marriages?!"
He complained incessantly as he quickly packed his clothes, then turned and bolted out the door.
Ning Chu stared dumbfounded at the door after he left, then turned to Wen Yang, confused. "What's with him switching between being an adult and a kid?"
"Physically an adult, mentally still a child, maybe?"
"What a weirdo..."
Ning Chu muttered under her breath, but seeing that Zhang Shaoqing seemed fine, she finally felt relieved.
As long as he didn't turn into a full-blown villain, the rest wasn't her problem.
Wait a minute! Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie were staying at a hotel. That meant she'd be alone in the dorm with Wen Yang for the entire weekend!
Suddenly, she felt as if a big "DANGER" sign was flashing over her head.
