"I'd love to join you for dinner," I replied, genuinely touched by Leo's invitation.
His face lit up with surprise, as if he'd expected me to refuse. "Really?"
"Really," I confirmed with a smile. "Lead the way."
Leo hesitated, suddenly looking uncertain. "The dining room is super big and... no one ever sits with me." His voice dropped to almost a whisper. "Dad's always working."
My heart squeezed at his confession. Behind all the tantrums and pranks was just a lonely little boy.
"Well, tonight you won't be eating alone," I assured him.
We walked to the massive dining room where the long mahogany table gleamed under crystal chandeliers. It could easily seat twenty people, yet only one place was set at the far end.
"Miss, should I set another place?" the maid asked, looking uncertain.
"Yes, please," I replied. "Right next to Leo's."
