Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 10

THE DARE**

Ethan's birthday arrived with the buzz of anticipation.

Kai's apartment was alive with energy that evening. Music thumped from the speakers, filling every corner with a rhythmic pulse. The lights were dimmed, casting the room in a soft golden glow, while the scent of grilled meat and spices lingered in the air.

The group had gathered early—Amara, Jane, Bella, Fred, Ethan, and Kai, all crammed into the cosy living space.

Everyone was dressed for the night. Ethan wore a casual black button-down shirt and jeans, looking every bit the birthday boy with his bright smile. Fred rocked his usual laid-back style—a fitted T-shirt that hugged his broad chest and dark denim jeans.

Kai, always sharp, wore a dark charcoal shirt tucked into black slacks, his sleeves rolled up slightly, revealing his lean, strong forearms. His hair was styled neatly, giving him that calm, unapproachable aura.

But it was Amara who stole the night.

She walked in wearing a deep red sequin dress that clung to every curve, the silky fabric shimmering softly under the lights. The dress had a daring thigh-high slit that exposed her toned legs with every step, while the plunging neckline framed her chest perfectly, leaving just enough to the imagination. Her skin glowed against the rich colour of the gown, her makeup soft but alluring, her braids falling around her shoulders.

The moment she walked in, the room quieted for a split second, all eyes on her.

Kai's gaze lingered on her longer than he meant to, his breath catching slightly.

Amara noticed.

And deep down, she liked it.

Jane wore a gold sequin dress matching her blonde hair, she looked beautiful ever the instigator, raised her glass, grinning mischievously. "To Ethan!".

While Bella the ever-pink girl, wore a pink short dress while her black hair hung on her shoulders.

"To Ethan!" everyone echoed, their glasses clinking together before they downed their shots Just after Ethan cut his cake.

Laughter echoed around the room as the shots kept coming, each round bolder than the last.

They sang along loudly to an old love song playing from Ethan's playlist, their voices off-key but full of heart. Even Kai cracked a faint smile as Ethan belted out the chorus dramatically, standing on the couch with a spoon as his mic.

Fred slapped his knee, laughing as Ethan gave an overly dramatic spin.

"You're killing it, mate!" Fred cheered.

Amara, already flushed from the alcohol, giggled as Jane grabbed her hands, pulling her up to dance along.

Bella joined them too, and soon the whole room was swaying to the beat, arms wrapped around each other's shoulders.

After a few more rounds of drinks, Jane, never one to waste a chance for chaos, stood up, her eyes gleaming.

"Game time!" she declared, swaying slightly.

"No more games!" Ethan whined, but he was grinning.

"Oh yes," Jane said, wagging her finger at him. "Truth or dare. With a twist."

"Always a twist with you," Bella said, laughing.

Jane smirked. "If you refuse a truth or dare, you take a shot and pay a thousand yuan."

"A thousand?!" Amara gasped.

"You heard me," Jane grinned. "We're raising the stakes."

Everyone groaned but agreed.

The game began with silly dares—Fred had to serenade Bella with a love song, which he did in a ridiculous falsetto that had the room roaring with laughter.

Bella was dared to show off her twerking skills, which she did with surprising skill, making even Kai crack a rare grin.

Ethan was dared to do a body shot off Fred's neck, which turned into a laughing fit before they could even pull it off properly.

But then the attention turned to Amara.

"Your turn, Miss Amara," Jane said, her grin wicked.

Amara sighed, already bracing herself. "Dare."

Jane's eyes sparkled dangerously. "I dare you to turn Kai on."

The room went silent. Even the music seemed to fade.

Amara froze. "What?"

Ethan coughed violently, spilling some of his drink. "Jane, you can't be serious!"

"Oh, I'm very serious," Jane said, laughing.

Amara's heart pounded in her chest. "I can't pay the fine," she mumbled, eyes darting to Kai.

Kai, calm as always, met her gaze evenly. "It's your choice."

But there was a challenge in his eyes. A silent dare of his own.

Amara's breath hitched.

Deep down, she knew she wasn't as reluctant as she claimed.

The way Kai watched her stirred something dangerous inside her. This was her chance to explore it—to push him, to push herself.

"Fine," she muttered, standing.

Everyone watched, stunned, as she walked toward Kai.

Her gown swayed with every step, the high slit revealing more skin than it should.

She stood before him, staring down at him with dark, daring eyes.

"Don't enjoy this too much," she whispered, her voice sultry.

Kai's lips twitched ever so slightly, but he remained still.

Amara straddled his lap, the slit in her dress parting fully to reveal her entire thigh draped over him.

Gasps filled the room.

She kissed him, biting his ears.

Her hands slid up his chest, unbuttoning his shirt slowly, teasing his skin with every brush.

Kai's breathing grew heavier, his hands gripping the couch tightly, not wanting to hold her yet.

Then, she leaned in, her lips brushing against his ear.

"Still calm, Kai?" she whispered.

Kai's jaw tightened, but he said nothing.

Amara kissed him.

Soft at first, testing.

Then deeper, hungrier.

Kai groaned under his breath, unable to hold back as his hands found her hips, pulling her closer.

Their kiss deepened, their bodies locking together as if they had done this a thousand times.

The air grew thick with heat, the others watching in stunned silence.

Amara pulled back slightly, her breath ragged, her eyes dark.

She began to roll her hips, grinding against him slowly.

The thin fabric of her dress did little to hide her movements.

Kai's grip tightened, his restraint slipping.

"You asked for it," she whispered boldly, her lips trailing along his jaw.

Kai's groan was low and primal.

Amara kept going, her body moving with deliberate sensuality, her hands roaming his chest and shoulders.

Kai's hands slid down to her exposed thigh, gripping it tightly as his body responded without control.

Everyone was too stunned to stop them.

Amara felt a dark satisfaction seeing him like this, knowing she had that power.

Finally, she stopped, pulling away with a confident smirk.

Her gown slid back into place as she stood, her cheeks flushed but her chin held high.

"Looks like I win," she said, her voice dripping with sultry pride.

Jane let out a loud, impressed whistle.

"Oh my God!" Bella gasped, covering her face.

Fred looked like he wanted to crawl under the table.

Ethan just stared, speechless.

But Amara wasn't looking at any of them.

She only saw Kai.

He sat there, chest rising and falling, eyes dark and unreadable, his shirt half-open, his body still tense.

Their gazes locked, and for a moment, the world blurred around them.

She didn't regret it.

Not even a little.

And judging by the way Kai's eyes lingered on her, neither did he.

The game carried on around them, but neither of them cared.

They had just crossed a line.

And deep down, they both knew there was no going back.
