The end was in sight. Two more unique deaths. Adam felt a surge of excitement mixed with a strange sense of finality. He needed one more truly unique Nen skill, and then a quick, almost ceremonial death to hit the magic number 20. His target for the Nen skill: a Specialist. The rarest, most unpredictable Nen type.
" Alright, Adam, time for the grand finale of death-acquiring! A Specialist! This is going to be weird. Specialists are always weird. I just hope I don't get 'Basic Toenail Growth Acceleration' as an A-Rank skill. That would be just my luck. "
Adam used his 'Gyo' to scan the arena for anomalies. He looked for auras that defied categorization, that felt alien or subtly warped. He finally found his target: a quiet, unassuming man named Zephyr, whose aura, while not outwardly flashy, had a strange, almost draining quality to it. Opponents fighting Zephyr often seemed to tire quickly, their Nen reserves mysteriously depleted. Zephyr's aura, visible to Adam, was like a faint, swirling vortex.
" Zephyr, you subtle energy vampire! You're going to be my final Nen teacher! And by 'teacher,' I mean 'the guy who accidentally drains me to death, so I can learn to drain others.' The circle of life, Nen-style! "
Adam signed up for a match against Zephyr. As they stepped onto the platform, Adam adopted a tone of genuine curiosity, mixed with a hint of his usual playful goading.
"Zephyr, my intriguing friend!" Adam began, gesturing thoughtfully. "Your fighting style is truly… unique. It's as if you're not just fighting, but… siphoning the very essence of your opponents! Do you perhaps have a tiny, invisible straw? Because your energy economy is truly… efficient. Though, I must say, a little rude. People work hard for their aura, you know!"
Zephyr, a man of few words, merely raised an eyebrow, his aura subtly intensifying. Adam felt a faint, almost imperceptible pull on his own Nen, a slight draining sensation.
" He's doing it! This is the good stuff! Come on, Zephyr, drain me! Deplete me! Make me feel like a deflated balloon, and then kill me! For the skill! "
Adam engaged Zephyr, using his 'Ko' to deliver powerful blows, but he noticed his own aura reserves diminishing faster than they should. Zephyr, meanwhile, seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment, his movements becoming more fluid, his attacks more precise. Adam knew he had to let the draining effect take its toll. He feigned exhaustion, allowing Zephyr to get close.
Zephyr seized the opportunity, placing a hand on Adam's chest. Adam felt a profound, chilling emptiness as his aura was rapidly siphoned away. His body grew weak, his Nen reserves utterly depleted. He felt his life force draining away, leaving him hollow and lifeless. His vision blurred, his consciousness fading as his very essence was absorbed. Darkness.

" YES! Minor Aura Drain! An A-Rank skill! This is incredible! Now I can steal other people's Nen! Slightly! Take that, powerful Nen users! Your aura is my snack! This is truly amazing! "
Adam gasped, sitting bolt upright in his inn room, feeling utterly drained but triumphant. He focused, and a faint, almost imperceptible siphon-like sensation emanated from his hand. He was at 19/20 unique deaths. Just one more.
He quickly made his way back to the arena, his mind buzzing. He needed one final, quick, almost ceremonial death to hit the magic number. He spotted a clumsy arena janitor, sweeping the floors with a comically oversized broom. The janitor, lost in thought, wasn't paying attention.
"Hey, buddy!" Adam called out, stepping directly into the janitor's path. "Watch out! You're about to hit a very important, very fragile Hunter!"
The janitor, startled, swung his broom wildly. The heavy wooden handle connected with Adam's head with a dull thud. It wasn't powerful, but it was direct, and Adam, having just been drained, was vulnerable. His vision swam, and he collapsed. Darkness.

A blinding flash of light erupted in Adam's mind. A wave of raw power surged through him, settling deep within his being.
[ ** SYSTEM UPGRADE COMPLETE: DEATH TOLERANCE LVL 1 ACTIVATED. USER CAN NOW DIE TO THE SAME INDIVIDUAL TWICE BEFORE PERMANENT CESSATION OF EXISTENCE. ** ]
Adam gasped, sitting bolt upright in his inn room, a wide, triumphant grin plastered across his face. He felt invigorated, stronger, more resilient than ever before. He had done it. He had completed Arc 1. He had acquired 20 unique deaths, amassed 10 million Jenny, and unlocked his first major system upgrade. He was truly immortal, for a little while longer.
He quickly made his way back to Gon and Killua, who were packing their bags, ready to leave Heavens Arena.
"Guys! Guys! It's done!" Adam announced, practically vibrating with excitement. "I've done it! I've achieved peak performance! I'm officially a certified, death-defying, skill-acquiring machine! Arc 1 is complete! Now, for Yorknew City! And more chaos!"
Leorio looked at him, bewildered. "What are you even talking about, kid?"
"It's a long story, Leorio!" Adam winked. "Involves a lot of dying, a little bit of Nen, and a whole lot of me being awesome! Let's go! Yorknew City awaits! And I'm ready to die again! Twice! Per person!" He laughed, a slightly manic, triumphant sound. The journey was far from over. It had only just begun.
