The door creaked open slowly.
Jake stared for a second before realizing who it was.
That girl from the party.
Still wearing heels. Still holding a bottle.
And still not blinking.
"What do you want?" he asked, voice flat.
She didn't answer.
She pushed the door gently and walked in.
Jake sighed.
"I said—what do you want?"
But Elena didn't care anymore. Her whole body felt numb.
She dropped herself onto the small couch in the corner of the suite, unscrewed the cap on her bottle, and drank slowly — not even looking at him.
Jake sat back on the edge of his bed, opened his laptop, and went back to work like she didn't exist.
Lines of encrypted code scrolled across his screen. His fingers tapped with calculated fury. He was running a brute-force penetration test on a local government server.
His mission?
Learn everything about hacking.Earn enough to fund his future company.Tell no one.
Not even Laz.Not even himself sometimes.
He didn't have time for girls.
Especially not mysterious girls with bruised lips and fire in their eyes.
For three hours, Jake never looked up.
And Elena never left.
She sat there, watching him. Drinking. Silent. The bottle now half-empty.
But she wasn't drunk.
Elena had a high alcohol tolerance — her body learned to resist pain before her heart ever could.
Eventually, her head drooped sideways. Eyes closed.
She fell asleep on the couch.
Jake noticed it only when his program pinged complete. He turned his head and stared.
"Why're you still here?" he muttered under his breath.
He didn't wake her.
He didn't cover her with anything.
He just got up, powered down the laptop, and walked to his bed.
He had work to do tomorrow night again.
And maybe — just maybe — a name to make.
3:47 AM
Jake's phone vibrated on the bedside.
Unknown caller.
He didn't hesitate.
"Hello," he said.
A deep voice answered. "You're the new hacker?"
"Yeah."
"You said you could handle confidential hits. I'm sending a target's info now. If you can breach it in five minutes, I'll know you're real."
Jake had already opened the file before the caller finished speaking.
Three tabs. A corrupt politician. Assets hidden in off-shore crypto wallets.
Jake's eyes lit up.
He didn't smile. He didn't blink.
"I'm in," he said calmly, less than two minutes later.
The voice on the phone went dead silent.
Then: "You—what?"
Jake leaned back. "He has Ð17 billion stashed."
The man on the other end nearly shouted. "You're joking!"
Jake said nothing.
He just smirked.
"You work for me now," the voice said. "From tonight, you are mine. But remember this—never reveal your identity to anyone. Not even me."
Click.
The call ended.
Jake placed the phone down gently.
And for the first time that night…He looked back at Elena.
She was still sleeping — arms crossed, mouth slightly open, breathing calm.
What was she doing here?
Why did she stay?
Jake didn't know.
And maybe he didn't care.
But the night had already changed everything.
Post-Chapter Author's Note:Jake just cracked into Ð17 billion worth of secrets. And Elena? She stayed.
