Chapter 1 - DAY 1

We had been traveling together for a few months now. Not because we particularly liked one another, (we didn't dislike one another either) but because we worked well as a team. It was five of us who worked together in total, but only four came on today's hunt.

Lothar, the strongest of our group, was in the lead, protecting us from melee monsters and charging at anything that moved. He carried a big sword, which he swung around effortlessly with his size and strength. He was kind of a jerk, and always belittled everyone.

Behind him is Alia, who specialized in archery. She could easily take down a few weak monsters, or a single strong one. She uses a strong longbow made out of steel and orc tendons, with iron arrows with sharp points. She is considerably nicer than Lothar, but every bit as brave.

The healer is called Fulcher, and he treats everyone, even if we don't know them. Lothar keeps pestering him about saving supplies for us, but Fulcher never listens. He only uses his magic in dangerous situations when simple bandaging doesn't work because he has limited mana that doesn't regenerate quickly.

Reiner, who is usually with us but couldn't make it today, is a mage, and he has much more mana than Fulcher. He only knows a few spells, but makes good use of them. He can even burn a hole through an orc! He's quite arrogant, but at times shows his nice side to us.

Then there's me, Alwin, the summoner. I'm only able to summon monsters with monster cores, and only the monster that the core belonged to. All the monster cores we get are sold for money though, so I wasn't able to summon anything for a while.

We were walking through a dungeon together when we were ambushed by a large group of goblins, which are weak when in small groups, but can overpower even the strongest of people in a large enough group. We started running in the opposite direction, fearing for our lives, when Fulcher slipped. I went back to save him, and Alia helped me get him to his feet before we had to run again. We kept running, and eventually we got to a spot we considered safe, a small plateau which was big enough for us and our things, but not anything else.

We rested for a few minutes before we heard a noise from below us, and it was the horde of goblins. They started climbing up the wall to reach us, and there was only one escape for us, behind us, over a narrow stone bridge. Lothar started crossing it, followed by Fulcher and Alia, and finally me. When I was about halfway across, the goblins finally reached the plateau behind me and started crossing the bridge, much faster than me because of their short stature. They gained on me quickly, and I started speeding up. In my haste, I accidentally slipped and fell off the bridge. Luckily I grabbed the edge of it, but I was still slipping, and I saw Lothar ready to destroy the bridge. As he did, I started falling with the goblins down the ravine.
