Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Disappearing Delight

Tim never imagined that one day, his most trusted enemy would be... the office fridge.

It all began on a gloomy Tuesday. The kind of Tuesday where even the printer refused to work and Karen from HR had already complained about the smell of someone's leftover fish. But Tim had hope — because waiting for him in the fridge was the sandwich. Not just any sandwich. A triple-layered turkey and cheese with garlic mayo, pickles, crispy lettuce, and just a whisper of mustard. It was beautiful. A masterpiece of lunch engineering.

But at 12:00 PM, when Tim strutted to the break room, something was wrong. He opened the fridge. His sandwich was gone.

At first, he stood in silence, staring at the empty lunch bag like it had personally betrayed him. Then came the slow panic.

"Who… who steals a sandwich?" he whispered.

From that moment on, Tim was a changed man.

The next day, he returned with another sandwich — this time, even better. He took extra care, slicing the bread diagonally (because everyone knows triangle sandwiches taste better), and wrapped it with love and aluminum foil.

Gone.

Again.

Two days. Two sandwiches. One thief.

Tim slammed his fist on the break room counter. "This means war."

He started keeping a Detective Log.

11:45 AM: Sandwich placed in fridge.

12:03 PM: Sandwich gone.

Suspects: Everyone in the office.

He narrowed his eyes at every person who walked by. Jake, his best friend and unofficial sidekick, noticed his weird behavior.

"You okay, dude?"

Tim leaned in. "Someone's eating my lunch."

Jake gasped. "No. Not the sandwich."

"Yes," Tim said grimly. "The sandwich."

By Day 3, Tim was crouching behind the filing cabinet with a pair of binoculars. Lisa from accounting walked in and caught him.

"What... are you doing?" she asked, holding her salad.

"Surveillance," Tim whispered.

Lisa raised an eyebrow. "Of the... fridge?"

"Operation Cold Cuts," he said seriously.

She backed away slowly.

Day 5. Tim brought in a decoy sandwich — a trap. It looked real but was filled with hot chili paste, glue, and glitter. Hidden above the fridge was a tiny camera made from his old webcam, duct tape, and a prayer.

At noon, he waited. The camera glitched. The sandwich was gone. But this time… a note was left behind.

"Nice try. But I like my lunch with extra spice. — Sincerely, The Sandwich Phantom"

Tim's jaw dropped. Not only was the thief smart… they had style.

Determined, he called Jake. "We're going full detective mode."

Jake showed up in sunglasses and a trench coat made from a curtain.

"Let's catch this snack snatcher."

They set up booby traps. They fingerprinted Tupperware. They interrogated Dave from IT ("I swear I only eat ramen!"). The entire office watched in amusement.

Then — on Day 8 — the truth came out.

Tim returned from a meeting to find the boss sitting at his desk… eating a sandwich.

His sandwich.

Tim froze.

The boss looked up, mouth full. "Oh… hey, Tim. I was just—uh… testing morale."

"Morale tastes like turkey and mayo?" Tim asked.

The boss blushed. "Okay, okay. I admit it. I've been eating your lunch. I just couldn't resist. Yours always look better than mine. Mine are sad and squishy."

Tim stared.

The boss continued. "I was going to stop! But then you started setting traps and I… I made it a game."

Tim blinked. "You're the Sandwich Phantom?!"

The boss raised an eyebrow. "I prefer... 'The Snack Specter.'"

Instead of quitting his job (which he very much considered), Tim made a deal: the boss would get one sandwich a week only if he gave Tim a raise.

And so, the great sandwich war came to an end.

But to this day, every time someone's lunch goes missing, people whisper… "He's back."

And Tim? He just opens his detective notebook… and smiles.
