Chapter 1 - The Robbery!

2yrs later...

I let out a deep sigh. Today felt like the longest shift of my life. I looked over to table 5, where I had been running orders all night before I saw–7:40. "About time…" I muttered.

Later that night...

On my way back home I saw an old woman arguing with a young man who was trying to rob her. "Let go of my purse," she said before she swung at him, thin fingers gripping the edge of her worn-out purse. Her voice cracked but no one bothered to stop. I started to step forward, ready to interfere—but someone beat me to it.

He looked like he was in his early twenties, judging by his build—tall, muscular, confident. Without a word, he moved between the old woman and the robber.

"Who are you, and what do you think you're doing?" the robber snapped. ...Silence. The guy said nothing. I glanced over my left, wondering if anyone else was seeing this— Then thud. A body hit the ground. I whipped my head forward. Who was this guy? The old woman quickly stammered out a thank-you."It's my duty," he said. His voice was calm—right in the middle between soft and deep. Strangely soothing. A gust of wind blew through the street. My hair lifted, floating around me like a slow-motion scene in a movie.

"But why did you help—" "Hello? Where'd he go?" the woman asked herself in awe. "That was weird," I muttered under my breath. At the time, it didn't seem like anything, of course—probably because I was in a rush to get home. But as soon as I turned around to leave, I felt someone's breath close to my face. It was the same man who'd disappeared. "Hello, Iris. I have a question for you," he said, leaning down to meet my height. I froze, panicking inside. Where does he keep appearing from? And how does he know my name? "Hello?" He snapped his fingers in front of my face to get my attention. Then he went in for a slow punch—but thankfully, I dodged it just in time.

A few minutes had gone by and boy was he a fighter.

The fact that he knew all my movements and what I was gonna do before I even moved a muscle amazed me. Although I had so many questions in my head, the only thing I said was…. "Who are you? And are you some type of spy?" He quickly replied, "That's none of your concern. I don't wanna hurt you, so might as well give up no—" I instantly replied sarcastically, "That's weak… coming from, hmph, a man."

"Kayl. The name is Kayl," he interrupted. I clenched my eyes, trying to focus harder… I felt an energy while fighting him — like nothing I've ever felt before. He went in for a kick, but thanks to my quick reflexes, I dodged and went for a low kick. Poof. Air. My heart was beating quickly… as I tried to process what just happened. Did I just make him disappear into the air with a punch? "Yes… you did," I heard him speak again. My eyes widened in shock as I turned around slowly, and there he was, giving me a weak smile. "What just happened then? Weren't you just in front of m—?" Of course… he disappears the second I turn back around.
