Chapter 18 - Team WABY pt.4

'Thoughts'

"Talking"

[ Sytem Prompt ]

A/N: I realized that in battles, the seals still work. I should probably put in some system prompts that shows it. Poor planning at work people.

A ruined temple sat in the middle of a clearing. A circular platform was raised in the middle, surrounded by five pillars, arranged in a semi circle. On the platform were 12 pedestals, where 12 chess pieces, gold and black, lay on their own individual pedestals.

It was decrepit, abandoned. Pieces of the pillars layed around on top of the grass, the platform was cracked, bigger pieces lay on the side, a reminder of what a great structure used to stand on it.

In the temple stood Yang and Blake. Blake looking more energetic, and positive, unlike her neurotic attitude from the other night. Yang was more or less the same, happy and bright.

"So what should we pick?" Yang asked Blake, who smiled softly upon hearing her.

"Your call" It didn't really matter to Blake what relic they picked, to her all the relics looked the same, except for their shape and color.

Yang went to the pedestal that had a golden horse piece on top of it. Snatching the relic, Yang smiled at Blake, as she presented the piece to her. "What about a cute pony?".

"Like I said your call" Blake said, as the two walked to the center of the temple.

"It wasn't too hard to be honest"

"Well, it's not like this place is very difficult to find."

On the distance, a loud scream eminated, sounding like a girl's screaming in fear. Yang was alerted to the noise, as she looked at the source of the noise.

"Some girl's in trouble! Blake, did you hear that?" Yang focusing on the forest, while Blake looked at something in the sky.

"Blake, did you hear that? What should we do?" Getting no respose, Yang turned to Blake, who was still glancing up. Yang fell silent in confusion, but before she could do anything she heard a faint voice calling out to her from the sky saying:

"Look out!"

Fascinatingly, the voice was very familiar to her, almost like it was the voice of Altair. Looking up their she saw, Altair's shield heading straight down to the ground.

Knowing how heavy the shield really was, she hopped back, dragging Blake with her, just right before the shield hit the ground with a ton of force, splintering the earth, kicking up dust and debri.

"Sorry!"

Altair's voice rangout from above, on top of a gigantic Nevermore. Besides him was a Weiss, who looked scared holding on for dear life.

How did things get to this point? Let's go back to 9 minutes and 2 seconds ago, right where we left off last chapter.

"...Can we take a break?"

"No. We need to go fast if we want to pass the initiation"

Faced with the cold, and pragmatic response from Altair, Weiss had no choice, but to suck up her complaints, and keep up with Altair, who kept walking ahead of her.

Irritation welled up from her mind, ready to explode, but she couldn't get herself to be angry at him. His reasoning was sound, and aligns with her goals, so there was really nothing that she could flaw him in.

Letting a out sigh, Weiss walked forward, ignoring her somewhat exhausted body as she went to follow Altair.

But fate had other plans, when she caught up with Altair, he gestured for her to stay silent. Seeing the seriousness in his expression, she immediately crouched down, alert for anything that may happen.

They were covered by the bushes, behind a tree. In front of them was a giant Nevermore. Its size easily towering over trees, resting, obvious to the two hunters observing it.

"That's our ticket to the temple"

Hearing those words come out of his, Weiss felt dumbfounded. What did he mean by that? Are we going to ride it? How do you even control a Grimm? All questions that are very much acceptable to ask, but or some reason she held her tongue, waiting for his explanation. Turning to face Weiss,Altair saw her dumbfounded expression, telling enough about her scepticism about his intentions. With a soft smile on his face, he began explaining what he meant by his words.

"What! How do you even come up with such a idiotic plan like that?" A hushed shout filled doubt and frustration came from Weiss. Altair however didn't mind it, as he just shrugged, before pulling out [ Minerva ] from his robes.

Seeing sleek the .50 Cal handgun in his hands made Weiss raise an eyebrow, if he had a gun then why didn't he use it earleir? Feeling a stare coming from his partner he, once again, shrugged.

"I was focused on shielding, so that's why."

"What kind of–"

"Shhh!"

The Nevermore stood up, shaking its body, before starting to groom itself. Seizing the opportunity, Altair grabbed Weiss, before jumping up. This startled the Grim, causing it to jump and fly, but what it didn't notice was the two hunters on its back.

The Nevermore took flight towards the temple faster than the march Altair and Weiss went on. On the back of the Nevermore, the two sat behind Altair's shield, covering themselves from the wind.

"This is the most reckless thing ever! What if things went wrong?" Complain, Weiss did, like she had done since they met. And be calm, Altair did, just like always.

"Don't worry, the Nevermore hasn't noticed us. I'm using my semblance to reduce our weight" Altair said as he laid down on the feathers "Sit tight, we should reach the temple in a couple of minutes" Closing his eyes, he took a nap, much to the dismay of Weiss.

"Don't sleep now you dolt! How do you even know when we will arrive in the temple?" Weiss complained yet again.

"I already calculated the distance from where I landed. We're definitely going north right now. With the speed of the Nevermore, we'll reach the temple by five minutes. If we kept walking, it would've taken 20 minutes of non stop walking, nine minutes if we ran. As for the landing strategy, we can just...drop down."

'FU—"

The Swear Jar, hit his head. Weiss was surprised by the sudden appearance of the jar. While Altair just laid flat, with a blank expression of his face. He had forgotten that he had a semblance, a working semblance that would've let him land safely without having to crash through trees. If he had taken just a few minutes to think, maybe he would've just flown to the temple.

' Well too late now '

Yup too late.

"How did this jar appear suddenly?!"

"Cosmic Sentencing"

"...Right"

"WE'RE FALLING YOU DOLT! IF YOU WANTED TO DIE, DO IT BY YOURSELF!"

Weiss screamed with fear and anger, as she sat on Altair's shoulders. Altair just smiled, as he kept his grip on her legs and skirt, keeping them from flying away from him.

"Don't worry! We'll be fine." As they fell, he kept his eyes on the ground, waiting for the perfect timing to disperse the force of the fall. Which was right about.

"Now!"

With a command, the force of the dispersed outward, killing the momentum of the fall, letting the two hover just a few inches from the ground, before finally landing safely.

Weiss hugged Altair's head, scared, not wanting to see if the ground before the anticipated end. Altair just let out a sneer, before tapping her.

"You can let go now. Oh hi Yang!"

"You gonna get off there Snow angel?"

"...Did they just fall from riding a Nevermore."
