IMOGEN'S POV
I sat in my car for ten minutes after Elijah walked away. My hands wouldn't stop shaking. The way he'd looked at me. The way he'd pressed me against that wall. The rage in his eyes mixed with something else. Something sick.
Your wife is fighting for her life, and you're thinking about me.
The words had come out of my mouth but they haunted me now. Because they were true. Even in his supposed moment of crisis, Elijah was still obsessed with me. Still trying to control me. Still getting aroused by the power he thought he had over me.
I pulled out my phone and scrolled to Isaac's number. My finger hovered over the call button for a long moment.
This would change everything. Once I told him about Joseph, there would be no going back. No more secrets. No more hiding.
I pressed call.
"Imogen?" Isaac answered on the second ring. "How are you?"
"I need to talk to you."
"Okay." His voice shifted. More alert. "What's going on?"
